Official Release Date Rumor Thread

I thought Verizon was going to get a different Samsung phone? Maybe I'm just confused and it's the Prime..

Well it could be the Celox too. The Verizon rep said they were NOT getting one of the US variants of the SGSII, but they WOULD get another Samsung phone with similar specs & LTE in Oct.

The Samsung Celox is rummored to have the same specs as the SGSII, except for the 1.5GHz Dual Core, 4.5" Super AMOLED, & LTE capability.

However, the Nexus Prime is ALSO a Samsung phone...and is rumored to sport a 1.5-1.8GHz dual core TI Processor, Super AMOLED HD Display (1280x640) on a 4.6" screen, & LTE.

It could be either.......for what it's worth, the Celox has actually been seen and there are pics of it on the interwebs. The Prime is more rummor mill material....but seems reasonable considering Google's aim to get ICS out by October.

Same. The only thing I would spend that much on is maybe the Prime. No way I would pay $299 for a phone that is already over half way to being obsolete.

I agree that $299 is way too high, but the Galaxy S II still has legs. Considering all the heavy competition in the near future....AT&T would be silly to price this at $300 (especially with an Oct release)

Most IT medias/forums seem to be leaning to Prime on Verizon. It already passed bluetooth certification and shows CDMA radio. Plus samsung just opened up web page on GT-I9250 (Prime). But there is still no sign of CDMA/LTE Celox showing up anytime soon.

Do you guys think this will be LTE SGS2 on AT&T? If so and this goes to AT&T before Prime on Verizon, switching carrier would be very tempting for me.

Samsung i727 Shows Up at FCC with 4G LTE

Oh man....LOL

WHY WHY WHY?!?

Its going to take Samsung a projected 4-5 months to get the AT&T variant (which has less differences than the original SGSII than Sprint or T-Mobile) to us. Why couldn't they have just worked in the LTE radio and shipped that in the first place?

So we know that the AT&T SGSII is being released between the 3rd week of September & 1st week of October.

The article above says that this phone is due out "later" in 2011.

IF no other spec changes from the current AT&T SGSII, I don't see them dropping this late in Q4 2011...because it would have to compete with superior phones like the Holiday, Prime, etc.

So could we expect to see this phone before the Prime in the 2nd - 3rd week of Oct?

And if thats the case, why the heck would I buy the SGSII without LTE when the one with it is dropping weeks later.

I'm going back to my college and asking for my business degree back. Apparently I missed a thing or two about marketing. LOL

EDIT: http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/08/30/images-upcoming-rogers-lte-samsung-galaxy-s-ii/

I took a look at some of the comments and a guy said this is the SGSII w/ LTE for one of the Canadian carriers. If you notice in the last picture shown in the above link, you'll see the model number matches whats on the FCC record.

But that begs the question....why does a Canadian phone need to pass the United States Federal Communication Commission?

If verizon is doing this, releasing 3G SGS2 and LTE SGS2 only a month later, it would be very upsetting to me. But my understanding is that LTE deployment on AT&T is way behind verizon with very tiny coverage so far. Also isn't 3G HSPA+ like 3~4 times faster than 3G CDMA on verizon? So I'm not sure why some of you are so hung up on LTE thing on AT&T now.

Well if you remember correctly, the Tilt 2 came out months and months and months after all the other carriers got the touch pro 2 and they priced it at 350 when verizon was selling theres for 200!! AT&T is very silly...I wouldn't put anything past them, at least for the first month this phone is out

Althoughhh apple is not their primary concern now, so things may have changed to them discounting every phone like crazy

AT&T has pretty well stayed behind the curve on Android phones since they came out. That is the reason I have an iPhone, which I am regretting. I just don't get why somebody likes a device they have so little control over. Maybe that is why they like it. It is idiot proof.

I think we all forget this is AT&T we are dealing with. If I had to take a guess, the S2 won't be out until after the iphone 5 steals all the sales. Last I talked to an AT&T rep it was all about the iPhone 5, they seem to really be pushing interest for it, meaning it's much higher in their priority list. So 2012? And I wish I was kidding, but I've been saying earlier since I heard of the phone, and each time I keep bumping back the date, so why not just guess based on experience? My final estimate is February 2012. Go ahead AT&T, prove me wrong (please! My contract is up at the end of the month and my battery is shot).

I give up on SGS2 and went w/ an LG Thrill today at Costco out the door ~$34. Loving it so far other than can't get the internet to work unless wifi but I suspect is cuz I'm using a non-4g sim card.

I was tempted by the LG Thrill, but I just can't rap my head around why they would only put 512mb of RAM in it! RAM is dirt cheap these days and there really is no reason to make cuts there. How is the 3D effects on it? I am thinking it is probably mostly a gimmick, but it would be fun to play with for a few days lol. Also how good is the screen on it? Does LG use a custom interface and if so is it any good?

It is a shame the Atrix had such a poor quality screen. If it wasn't for that I would have bought it months ago. I was going in the store with the intentions of picking it up, but I just couldn't get past the absolutely atrocious colors the screen had. It was far below even average IMO.

Edit: I just noticed the specs are saying Froyo. Are they seriously releasing a phone running Froyo right now? That seems a bit odd to put a version of Android that old on a new phone.

Ya, unfortunately it is running Froyo 2.2.2. Although I've had an Inspire that originally had froyo then I later upgraded to gb and never noticed any difference worth mentioning. The UI is definitely custom but not bloated. It's actually really really snappy. The 3d is phenomenal. I don't think it's gimmicky cuz just the ability to take 3d pics by itself is such an amazing feature. I agree with you on the 512mb ram issue.. i really wish it was 1gb. however, it is dual channel ram and so the THEORY is that it's faster ram thus you need less. I don't know if that's reality though. The only other thing I am bummed about is the screen is nowhere near as good as a Samsung Infuse. Don't get me wrong, the screen is plenty good. Just not as good as Infuse. But for the price and the lack of jerking me around on the wait and what not, I'm very happy.

It can get it to the processor quicker, but the rate at which it can be filled from the flash memory remains the same. Also for me the screen is a very important feature, which is why I am still holding out for a Samsung phone despite my gripes with them. Then again for $34 you got an amazing steal IMO. I challenge anyone to find a better phone for that price...You can't.

I actually like the Samsung Note they just announced. Most would say it is too big, but I really wouldn't be bothered by it. I was carrying around a Palm Treo 700W when those were considered big lol. Everyone in those days had Razrs, so my phone was considered massive. On the other hand I probably won't wait for it because who knows when that will show over here. I am thinking we will be lucky if we see it before January. I am not waiting that long.

How did you get your hands on it so soon though? Did Costco get it early? It was just announced it is supposed to come out on the 4th.

I'm with him. If this phone gets released in October, I'm going to be one unhappy camper

Hrmmm..

I read a lot of you saying how you're being tortured on your 3GS iPhones, well, I'm still on my EDGE-driven Blackberry Curve! You all make me sick... :) haha. Glad we've finally seen some light on this phone. Still, it's never coming out :) haha. I'll probably pick up the Holiday instead. This phone just took way too long... My fanboy attitude towards it has fizzled out, turning me to the LTE phone instead. Sorry if somebody already posted it and I overlooked the date, but when's the official release of the Holiday exactly? Maybe I can wait another 47 months for that one :)

It's rumored to be coming out this month. They are already selling cases. There will probably be more official info. before the SG2 release. I would opt for this phone if L.A. was getting LTE, but we aren't. I will probably go with the SG2 because it looks better, aesthetically (both phone design and screen). It's also thinner and smaller.

I definitely agree with most of you: paying $200+ for 6+ month-old tech seems like a waste of money. And buying the EU version for $600+ to get it on release date is not a better option either. When it comes to smartphones, the US sucks.

I'm just going on hearsay but the lady that sold it to me said 'they sent out an email if you have it go ahead and sell it'. Even though it's Costco, the actual company selling cell phones in it is 'Wireless Associates'. So I don't know who gave the command because Wireless Assocs are the same company that sits inside Best Buy and Staples. One thing to note is that if you buy from Costco, they have a 90 day return policy instead of your usual 30 day anywhere else.

if best buy will match that $34 price i will grab one to play with.
I'm pretty certain they will because the company inside of Costco that sells these phones are the same company inside of Best Buy. They look at their system to see which stores (they're in) is selling it for the least to pricematch themselves.

WOW....the phone is still in testing? Had we gotten major changes from the tried & true international version....I could reason with. But as it looks....the only thing different is the 4 capacitive buttons.

Anyone have an idea on that LTE SGSII that was linked above? The original linked article says that its an AT&T SGSII w/ LTE, but if you read the comments below....there is a link to another site that has pictures of a SGSII w/ LTE for a Canadian carrier.

If thats the case, why does a Canadian phone have to get clearance from the FCC?

So how much better is the SGS2 than the Thrill? I'm tired of waiting.

SGS2 is a bit smaller, lighter, thinner.
SGS2 has Gingerbread while Thrill has Froyo (but an update coming)
SGS2 a bit more powerful specwise, but the Thril is definitely no slouch in its own right.
SGS2 has the overall better screen.

Thrill has 3D...I look at it as a neato gimmick but nothing I care too much about.
Thrill is also way cheaper, a great price for what you get in my opinion.

I just don't know if I should wait or go for the Thrill. As I've said in a post way back, I'm still rocking an Iphone 3GS and I'm soooooo bored with it lol. I just want to go android. I'm envious of my wife's captivate lol.
Even if it takes until October 2nd, I'm waiting for the GS2. I considered the Atrix for awhile, but really wanted an AMOLED screen and 4.3". The thrill offers that and seems pretty zippy, but I am going to wait for what I want. I wouldn't mind 3D, but from what I have read the screens for the 3D phones are a bit of a compromise right now. If I was still limping along on EDGE, I would probably go for the thrill but my replacement iPhone 4 can do the job until the SGII release date. The Prime may or may not hit soon, but I know the AT&T version of the S2 is exactly what I want. I don't think it is worth worrying about LTE (on ATT) for quite awhile.
