i am thinking for me this is an 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' thing.

I guess what I flashed updated my baseband, as the version number changed. I'd guess that is 3g. I'm guessing wimax is 4G. one might be what it uses for 1x and then there is wifi.

I tried out the fm radio app in one of the roms, 3d beta, I think. I really figured it would be a waste of time but I was wrong! I wonder which 'radio' was used to implement that app..

OK Supernoob here, so I apologize in advance. I have rooted my EVO with unrevoked and use clockwork to flash the new ROM (sinister) I've decided I don't like that ROM.

1st question:
Why partition card and what do you do once it is partitioned.
2. I've flashed several ROMs but never did anything with 'kernels' or 'radios'. What are those two things???

1.partitioning you card will allow you to move apps to your sd card. i will free up a lot of space on your phone. you need a rom that supports either cm a2sd or darktremor a2sd. you can learn more by reading the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. there is a section on how to partition and move your apps.
2.kernels help you so you can over and underclock your phone. it can also be use to help with battery life as well. read this sticky:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/389360-kernels-dummies.html

and radios are just that. when you update you might be able to get better 3g signal. just be careful when upgrading your radios. read this: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...before-you-flash-your-radios-read-thread.html. now don't let the warnings and such scare you. just make sure to have a nandroid backup with your wimax keys saved on your computer.

any more questions please feel free to ask.

So I have been using EVOlvedr3chargeD on goldenmonkey 1.1 and have loved it. I have tried several combos for this ROM and other Kernels, as well as different ROMs and Kernels all together. I just flashed the R2R 2.3.5 and like it more both in looks and speed. The stock Kernel gives me better Quadrant performance than what I had before and the speed was only at 1.15m. The Speed on the R2R stock is over 1400 quadrant right now. I am going to see what happens with the goldenmonkey 1.1 flashed.

Also, I have v6 supercharger installed for both ROMs.

Great job! I am waiting for the Sense 3.5 completion.

Under Sense ROMS there is a sub-category "Ports". What does that mean?

ports are just that. though most of the new roms are actual ports as well. but these actually come from other types of phones that was ported over to the evo. like i just added a new port that came from the motorolla phonton rom. just keep in mind that most of those ports do not have 4g working.

Thanks. That's what's confusing. Since the EVO 4G is a Sense 1.0 phone aren't the ROMS that are running later versions of Sense also a port from another phone? So I'm not sure why they are called out separately in a Port section.

MikG 2.52 as an example is based on the recent 4.53 release for the Evo. The devs though have been able to add in Sense 2.1 with some 3.0. Sense 2.1 was never intended to be released on our phones but the awesome developers in the community are able to add it for us.

Ah. So the core is still EVO 4G versus the core being from another phone model for the port ROMS

Hello all,

I hope I'm posting this question in the right thread and it hasn't been asked already.

So I decided to flash Team Nocturnal's Merge rls 1.5 rom. I know it comes with a kernel, but can other kernels be flashed and if so, can they be either Sense or AOSP since the rom is a kind of hybrid? I don't want to take the chance of possibly bricking my phone if I flash a kernel that wasn't meant for Merge.

Thanks.

i had no idea that they went nightly on this rom. i hate that. they shouldnot be call them rlsas well. might have to check them out.

as for what merge is. it is a sense 3.0 rom with elements of aosp. looks like with the nightlies they are adding more and more elements of aosp in. but it will always be a sense rom. so you will need a gingerbread sense kernel. i am running the more freedom kernel with my rom. but you also have chop suey and golden monkey to try as well.
