Laptop Dock

You are not the only one wondering this also. Word has it that Moto is planning on doing one, but yet nothing that I've seen has been said by them, yet you see quite a few ads and notices about the Bionic's lapdock.

Personally, I'm hoping Motorola puts out a Tablet dock that also has a laptop dock... like the Eee pad Transformer.

If there was a phone/tablet combo on Sprint next year, I would definitely upgrade (of course, both the phone and tablet would have to prove that the functionality would serve my needs better than what I currently have with the MoPho and HTC Flyer). Nontheless, in 2 years I can take advantage of the Buy Back program I bought into with Best Buy and be able to easily get some upgraded gear.

I was told that there is a mention of the lapdock in the Photon user manual and upon searching yep its there. Its mentioned on pages 103, 104 and 105.

So I guess it may very well be in the cards after all. Well at least I am hoping Moto does make it.

This is the glorified keyboard/battery/monitor thingie that costs $500, right? Maybe at $200, but definitely not at $500.

I don't get the appeal. I'd rather carry a laptop (or netbook) and my phone.

...but then, I don't get the appeal of tablets in general. They're nice toys, and I'd love to have one, but I just can't justify the expense.

At first, I didn't really get the appeal of tablets vs. small laptops. I'll tel you the one thing that became a benefit for me to get a tablet was for work purposes and taking notes during meetings. That's the main reason I got the HTC Flyer vs. any of the others on the market (and no way I was going to pay for the stupid 29.99 minimum tablet plan for the EVO View 4G, when I could just as easily pay the 29.99 hot spot fee on my account and just tether the tablet...Sprint really needs to re-think their tablet plans).

Anyhow, having the tablet for note taking is the perfect answer for me, especially with the capability of being able to email the notes to myself for viewing on my work PC. This also allows me to search for info online, while in a meeting, be able to take a snap shot of the page, take notes on the snapshot and then email to myself (in the event a subject is brought up that I wasn't aware of, but I need to remember).

1. You get a netbook with an always-on internet connection. No extra steps. No extra charges on your bill. Just dock-n-go.

2. Unified data that doesn't need sync-ing. All of your data is managed on one device... your phone. No sync-ing. No wondering about versions or overwrites.

3. It charges your Phone.

While the argument and or appeal whether is it worth to get a lapdock over a netbook or a laptop could end up pages long, for me its convenience.

Case in point.
For my travels, I used to carry
1-My EVO (or any phone for that matter)
2-My Laptop
3-My Broadband modem
4-A dedicated SLR camera

I reduced this down by eliminating my SLR camera since the EVO then and now the Photon takes as good enough pictures for me.

I tend to further reduce this by just having my Photon and the lapdock, this not only saves me in carrying extra gear but also will save me money by not having to have the 3G/4G broadband modem and the data plan it needs.
If only Moto gets to sell it. (They can't be testing it forever)

Another thing I noticed with laptops is that true, I can take my work home or in travels and work in Excel (my main spreadsheet program), but in reality I have my home PC for that, and when traveling I shouldn't be working. All I really need is a bigger screen and easier way to type stuff on the go and a lapdock helps. If that costs between 250 and 500 bucks I still think its a steal. although I do believe Moto will not price it so high.

I just assumed the laptop dock would require a more expensive data plan. Having a larger screen, without paying extra for data, would be a good reason to get one.

Perhaps that's why they can charge such a ridiculous price for the things.

I definitely agree that 500 is really high but my personal laptop had become more of a desktop and weighs close to 10 pounds. A small laptop with an Internet connection anywhere I go for business would be extremely useful. I would also use it to save school documents to the cloud and be able to access them anywhere I'm at.

Why would the lapdock require more data usage?
