Battery life end first impressions

I took the phone out of the cradle at about 9 this morning and had to swap it out at around 5 this afternoon, so I got about 8 hours of what I would consider mostly hard use out of the battery the first day. I downloaded a LOT of apps through the market that I had on my OG Droid on to the Bionic. I also spent about 30 minutes on the telephone, so I don't feel bad about what I got the first day. I switched the battery with the extra one I got as part of my Costco bundle and put the used one into the charger. Although I have the spare battery I am strongly considering the purchase of the extended battery through Verizon while it is still on special, especially since it will fit the desktop cradle, desktop charger and the car adapter. If it didn't fit all the accessories, I'd probably pass.

Day 2 of my battery testing. Today it was all 3G with wi fi on and moderate use. I downloaded a few apps, played some games, done some HDMI mirroring with Netfilx, used Pocketblu to transfer a digital movie over wi fi from my PS3 (Xmen First Class) and browesed the new on Dolphin, texting and a few short calls. Here are my results;

12 hours 28 min 34 seconds

30% remaining

Cell Standby 43%
Phone Idle 34%
Display 10%
Wi fi 6%
Android OS 5%

Overall im very impressed. Tomorrow ill be testing out over 3G with wi fi off. The movie looks great on the pentile screen and its bothering me less and less, oh and it works outside in sunlight which was a neat suprise being able to see the screen lol. I messed with the camera, front and back and I am not seeing the big issue, you do a quick press on auto settings and it takes a nice fast clear pic, hold it down it focuses a lil longer and takes a nice pic, front camera has decent pic quality, sent over text they seem just as clear as a resized average pic. Flash is brighter than my Droid X too. The bezels not collevring dust like I thought it might, its easy to clean regardless and of course Motos gorilla glass is awesome as yours expect. If the battery keeps performing at these levels ill he a Bionic man. Maybe not a million dollar one. Oh and no lock ups, freezes, restarts or battery pulls. Been good except for the crackle over Netflix and getting use to pentile screen. Ill trade battery life and seeing outdoors for brighter greens and yellows, you adjust.

With some tweaking, a good task manager and maybe rooting to get rid of bloat I can see this battery lasting 14 to 16 hours of average use, 10 hours of heavy use. With extended battery even better.

if the bloat is not running, then it will not be contributing to battery usage by just being on the phone. Searching for apps, however, and / or having them run services in the background, will.

It's like going into Windows Task manager - you may have 3000 programs installed, but if only 15 are running, then only those 15 account for RAM usage, and thus, electrical usage.

Ok i got right at 10 hrs and 30 mins of what i would call normal use.. That is flipping between WiFi and 3g taking some pics and video a couple of phone calls installing some apps..

My OG Droid would have been dead at about 5 hrs after what i did today.. Now with that being said the option to conserve battery is awesome i mean if you really want your battery to last use the battery mode menu. oh and i don't have 4g where i live so i turned it off altogether..

And hate to say it but i look at my wife's iPhone and it had 70% left on the battery when mine was at 20%.. I would not consider that she used hers as much as i did but the battery's on them dam iPhone seem to last forever. IMO..

Overall i am impressed.

Day 3 of battery test. Today was 3G only no wi fi. Here are my results.

13 hours, 13min, 36sec

15% battery remaining

Cell Standby 39%
Phone Idle 27%
Display 14%
Plants vs Zombies 6%
Android OS 4%
Dolphin HD browser 3%
Voice Calls 3%
Phandroid 2%
Android Systems 2%

I used the phone more today than the past 3 days. Lots of game playing, web surfing over 3G, messing with phone features, Netflix, made calls, texts, Phandroid lol. It would have lasted much longer but I wanted to see how it does, under heavy use. I am impressed once again. Stock battery, no lock ups or restarts, I did however loose my 3G at one point so I dug through the forums here and found it to be a Verizon problem with 4G/3G network, guess they tweaking the system for the big changeover in three future, who knows.

Anyway tomorrow ill be testing 4G with wi fi on, moderate use. I wont go light, ill make sure to use each app a few times to get a good feel. Still on performance mode too.

Anyone else hyacinth similar performance and results?
