Can anyone recommend a 7" tablet that supports voice calls in the US? I need this to work everywhere, not just on my home wifi. I really want to ditch my smartphone and use a tablet instead. I only use my smartphone for calls once or twice a week.

The Viewsonic Viewpad is the only thing I've found and it doesn't look like a very good tablet. Something like the viewsonic g tablet would be awesome.

I've got my G-Slate running Google Voice and Groove IP. Have yet to hit any major snags, even when tethering through another Android device. All you would need to look for is a tablet that has a built in mic; if they advertise video chatting that would be a dead give away.

The original Galaxy Tab may be right up your alley.

One more question (sorry).

You've got me interested in getting a Galaxy Tab. They are getting pretty cheap. Which carrier would you recommend for a pay-as-you-go, 1GB to 2GB plan?

You've been a great help. For some reason I had been unable come to any clear choice after months of googling.

T-Mobile has some really great pay as you go plans, and they don't block VoIP. Im not sure about the other carriers.

In terms of monthly data cap, how often can you get hooked up to wifi, or will you use it exclusivley on the data network? If you only make a few calls per week, youll be fine on a 1GB plan. If youre a heavy user, you may want to start on the 2GB plan. You can always change, once you get a feeling for how much data youll actually be using.

The 7" Samsung Galaxy tab support GSM voice call. I have one and have tried this :)
Some Chinese tablet also supports voice call, like the Gen-E tablet we are selling can support GSM voice call too.

However, if you use it directly to make calls, it may be a bit awkward because you can only use it in handsfree mode.

Unless you use a bluetooth or wired headset.. In other words, the tablet don't really need to have build-in mic to support voice calling because you can use bluetooth or wired headset ;)
