Help Current Bugs with the Bionic

Yeah there's a major bug.
USB just won't see the internal but sees external memory.
This is a deal breaker don't know why people are so tolernace to these things!
First attempt to connect to PC to restore data from some apps didn't see either memeory locations.
Second time both int & ext were viewable from PC w/64bit W7 OS.
Managad to get my data loaded but no longer see's interal memory.
I've seen many versions of this same problem on other forums.
This by no means is anything short of a huge bug.
My droid one synched to my PC with no problems. I moved all the folders to an external HDD so i can start restoring app data to Bionic and it simply can't be done because it sees it it doesn't see it see's one it doesn't see the other...
Also tried synch to laptop w/V64bit Vista...Droid one no problem...Bionic it might as well be 1972!
This is a rudimentoary function that should work flawlessly...this is rediculous!

I had the same issue and resolved it. Check this thread for more information: http://androidforums.com/motorola-d...ecting-bionic-pc-please-help.html#post3189950

I had the same issue and resolved it. Check this thread for more information:

Checked the post in your link, and I'm not having the success that you had with it. I followed your steps exactly, but even with the SD card not in the phone, my computer is still showing both drives (since there isn't an SD card inserted) as Removable Disks, and both come up asking me to insert a disk, I waited for over an hour and nothing changed.

Another odd note: When I went back on my phone with the SD card not in it, all the apps that had shown up with the generic system file icons instead of their usual icons, magically were showing with the standard icons AND I could use all those apps, BUT when I went to look at them in the stock app manager (and no, I don't have a third party manager) they still were showing with the generic icon indicating they were on the SD card, and when I attempted to uninstall ay of them, it said the app didn't exist.

More of an act of defiance than anything else, I decided to tell my Bionic what's what by playing Zenonia 3, one of the apps that it said "Didn't Exist" for an hour...addicting game btw.

I have no idea what in the world is going on, but it seems that the Bionic is having A LOT of issues with it's storage since I've seen quite a few app/storage tech support requests on this forum as well as droidforums. Verizon tech support gave me the green light to get a new one, and my girlfriend isn't having these issues with hers, so I'm assuming it's a problem that isn't happening on all of them, hopefully the new one won't have this going on. I love the phone, even with all this garbage AND the insane amounts of bloatware and un-deletable contacts (which are absurd since the phone also has the "My Verizon" app pre-loaded that gives you everything those numbers gives you and is also un-removable.)

So far the two most annoying bugs I have found are 1 the screen doesn't go into sleep mode if you leave alone. I have it set for one minute to shut off but it remains on until I physically hit the sleep button. The other is that the 3G stays connected even when wifi is connected.

Oh and a quick third. The market icon freezes. Started today. The icon on my home screen is useless. It just sits there. Can't remove it and it won't open. I have to go into the app tray to open to market.

A reboot fixed the icon but after opening it one time it did the same thing.

Edit: Now the favorites widget is also unresponsive.

Second Edit: The icons are becoming unresponsive after the camera app is opened.

Some apps that I've moved from the phone to the "Media Area" mysteriously disappear or uninstall themselves. After rebooting, they may reappear, while others may uninstall.

Annoying "feature": If you use a pattern lock, you first have to swipe to unlock, then enter the pattern. On my old Droid, you didn't have to swipe first.

I've had almost all of the problems mentioned here. At first my computer saw three drives; now it doesn't show the internal one but it still comes up with E (MOT) as a removable drive, as well as G.

I've had several random reboots.

I've had multiple apps disappear. I've had to reload some of them 3-4 times from the market. The icon will stay on the home screen, but pressing it says that app doesn't exist. Gone from app tray. Even gone from My Apps in market. One example: all three versions of Angry Birds--there yesterday, gone today. Has happened to probably 10-15 different apps. I did move all he apps I could to SD, so maybe that's part of the problem--but I should be able to do that.

I also had trouble downloading several apps from the market, but a second try always solved that. One time I got the "not enough memory" error when I'd hardly used any of the internal app memory. But again, a second try worked.

I've been heavily configuring it over the weekend, including installing apps, loading/configuring Go Launcher EX, and connecting/disconnecting from my computer multiple times in order to side-load book and music files. So I figured I'd give it a day or two after I stop all that. But at this point I'm wary about whether there's a serious problem.

And I don't want there to be because I love the phone! Not to mention that I don't want to go through that full weekend of configuration all over again....

Anyone get a bug with the Browser where sometimes it just freezes and doesn't let you browse other sites no matter what you do? I've been comparing this to a and Evo 3D and all I can say is that software wise HTC is WAY better than what Motorola has done with their UI. I'm giving this phone another week to see if any news on patches comes out because right now to Charge $300 for a phone that out of the Box is buggier than a $100 Evo 3D is unacceptable for me. Might wait for the Vigor or Prime.

might want to buy an iphone or maybe a feature phone with that attitude. Android is a platform running on multiple hardware specs. Because of this early adopters of phones need to be patient and understand that some software bugs are going to happen. The bugs will be fixed and within a few weeks XDA devs will have stuff for us to play with as well. All Android phones come with some bugs it's the price we pay for the freedoms Android gives us.

Okay, I may have found my first, albeit minor, bug.

While in the dock, the home button doesn't do anything. Doesn't take me to my home screen or my dock screen. So if I check email, for example, with the phone in the dock, I am stuck there until I pick up the phone, hit home, and reseat. I'm sure it's a gingerbread issue rather than a phone issue, but still...

Grr.

I disagree. He doesn't need to buy an iPhone or feature phone and his complaint is valid.

This phone was delayed for a very long time and Android isn't new. The Android platform has been around for long enough. Let's stop making excuses every time a phone comes out buggy. If a manufacturer can't design their hardware to play nice with Android, then that's their mistake.

The bottom line is that this is a high-end flagship phone from Motorola. It's $589 off contract and $299 with a contract. It should be solid out of the box, we shouldn't be beta testers. Especially after the long delay, the should have it mostly figured out.

As a matter of fact, let's forget the bugs for a minute. On a flagship device that is supposed to be next-gen tech, what is it doing with a pentile screen? I think that is the biggest mistake of them all. Bugs can usually get corrected with a software update. A crappy screen technology can't.

When I am in a 3G service area, the Bionic won't find a 3G network when "Preferred network mode" is set for "CDMA/LTE". I found I have to select "CDMA only", then "System select "Automatic A" only.

Can't connect to PC via USB while the phone is in the Desk Dock. I have to use a cable from PC to the Bionic, no intervening dock.

Screen won't re-orient to portrait mode while in the Car Dock.

Feature? or bug? While in the Car Dock, the music app is dumbed down. You can only select by playlist or by song. Selecting by artist or by album is not available.

If we are paying $300 for a phone, (or $700 if you buy retail) We shouldn't be thier beta testers, they should offer the phone at a discount until all the bugs are worked out and when they have a superior device then sell it for big money. That's why the fruity devices are sold for big money and retain their value.
Now don't get me wrong I am not an apple fanboy but they do have a reputation for delivering semi stable stuff right out the gate, whereas some android phone's that are released seem to be in a beta form.

then Android isn't for you. every new phone comes with new specs, some bugs are bound to happen and having a few beta testers doesn't always work them out. If you don't want to be a beta tester then don't get the phone at launch and wait for others to deal with the issues. It's not a perfect system and you have a right to feel like you shouldn't have to be a beta tester. So don't be a beta tester I hear the droid charge is doing relatively well.

Hah...yeah. So, I got my Bionic yesterday morning, took it home and started immediately working on xferring all the stuff from my Moto Droid over to my new phone. Everything worked fine. After doing that I started taking a look around the phone, balked at the tremendous amount of bloatware, and started working on re-installing my apps. Once again, everything was fine. After doing that, I started on getting my Amazon apps on my phone. Once again, everything started working fine. I connected it to my computer again...and that's when I realized something was up.

Every other time I connected the phone to my computer it came up with two new drives; "Removable Disk ( G: )", which only contains a DCIM and LOST.DIR, and "MOT ( F: )", which contains everything else. This time around, both drives were labelled "Removable Disk". At this point I already knew something was wrong. Upon clicking "Removable Disk ( F: )" I was greeted with "Please Insert a Disk into Removable Disk ( F: )"

Baffled by what was going on I tried rebooting the phone. After getting back to my home screen, I noticed my 3G indicator at the top had switched from white, to light blue. I opened my app drawer and was horrified; all my apps that I had just downloaded were gone. Not at all on my phone in any way, shape, or form...or so I though.

Just to see what would happen, I went ahead and tried playing an MP3 from my phone. When I tapped the song, rather than simply opening directly to the stock audio player, it asked if I wanted to use stock, or PowerAMP; which, at the time, according (literally) to the phone, did not exist. Already knowing I'd have to perform a reset on the phone, I went ahead and tapped to play on PowerAMP...and unbelievably, it worked fine.

Once again, I tried rebooting the phone. This time, my apps did show up...but not installed, at least not properly. Rather than displaying the apps own icon, it showed the generic system file icon (the one with the gear and applet), likewise in app management, which still wouldn't allow me to uninstall or move because the apps "Did not exist".

At this point I gave up. It's a new phone so I didn't want to attempt anything on my own just yet, so I gave Verizon a call. After trying the standard procedures, he finally decided that a reset was necessary. So I went ahead and tried doing a soft reset through the Privacy menu...which got me nowhere. Upon confirming to erase all data on my phone, the device started to unmount the internal memory...and never stopped. It just kept going, while the tech support agent had already wiped and re-activated their Bionic.

Obviously, at this point, the only thing that would be able to get this thing working again would be a hard reset. After doing that, and getting things working again, it seemed to be A-OK again, apps downloaded fine, USB mass storage worked fine, drive F was once again MOT. So I started reinstalling my apps. First from the standard Marketplace, and then from Amazon Appstore. After this, I once again rebooted my phone, and when I got back to my home screen...there was the blue 3G symbol up top...and I already knew the problem recurred.

Now...the tech agent and I have no idea what is causing this; whether it's an individual app I'm downloading, or if it's something to do with the Amazon Appstore. All my apps come from either Amazon, or the standard marketplace; I don't trust 3rd party apps...well spare Amazon Appstore.

It may be worth noting that every time I reboot my phone while effected by this blue 3G thing, a different selection of my apps will/won't be displayed.

At this point it's getting frustrating. I'm in love w/ the phone (even with the bloatware) while it works properly, but it's getting harder and harder to keep that optimism up when my phone requires a factory fallback every time I reboot it.
THE SAME EXACT THING HAS HAPPENED TO ME (minus calling Verizon because I know that they know less about my phone than I do). @#$%! I am going to print this thread and march right down to Verizon and present it along with my long list of other problems with the phone. Thanks for posting this in a concise and coherent manner.

Whenever I'm using the headphones, I get this REALLY FRAKING ANNOYING high pitched whine.

YES! Me, too. I was just headed over here to try to see if I was alone in this horrible issue. I need to try some other headphones to make sure it's not the ones I'm using (Skullcandy... not exactly high-end, but I didn't get this squeal on my Blackberry!) :-(

Argh.

My husband's been having an issue with his. He moved a bunch of apps over to SD, and a couple of hours later, they weren't accessible. The icons still existed on his home screens but if he tapped to open, the phone said the app didn't exist. He can see the apps in the application management section but can't move them back to the phone.

I had this same problem. I reinstalled the apps and just left them on the internal storage rather than moving them to the SD Card. Since then they haven't disappeared again.

I found two bugs, not sure if they are Gingerbread OS 2.3.4 specific:

1) Google calendar doesn't always seem to want to sync recurring events. I found a fix on another forum: go to Settings-->Applications-->Manage Applications-->Calendar (there is also Calendar Storage), delete all data, then go to Settings-->Accounts-->Google and re-sync. Voila, all your events will now appear. Note that there may be some "sync schedule setting" that none of us in that forum have yet discovered, although after 2 days I still had only non-recurring events show up on my device. Also, some folks said this method lost their previous calendar history, although I did not experience that.

2) You may not be able to SMS text contacts with a country code prefix (like +1 or +44)

I responded to a different thread with a post on how to work around this (basically remove the country codes):

http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-...ndroid-2-3-3-texting-problem.html#post3201123

Other posters recommended using a different SMS app, which I may do since I need the country codes for Skype.

I hope these help folks having these issues. And thanks everyone on this forum for helping me get this awesome device working properly!

I'm having an issue with my text messaging screen..when I first open my messaging inbox, it takes an extremely long time to load the contact names and pictures. All it shows is the phone number, so unless I remember the last message or my contact's numbers, I don't know which message thread is which. Anyone else having this?

Also I'm not impressed with the battery life (not really a bug, I know).. Are battery issues sometimes improved with updates?

Some apps that I've moved from the phone to the "Media Area" mysteriously disappear or uninstall themselves. After rebooting, they may reappear, while others may uninstall.

I had this as well and think I've figured it out. I had installed the free version of App 2 SD. Once installed I moved everything I could to the SD card. Soon afterward, I noticed that apps that had been moved would disappear. If I rebooted the phone some of the missing apps would return but others that had been moved to the card would be missing.

I started transferring everything that was on the card back to the internal phone storage. After all of the apps that were displayed were transferred back, I rebooted the phone and opened App2SD back up. Lo and behold, several of my missing apps were shown as being resident on the card. I moved them back to the internal storage and repeated this process 3 more times, as each time I rebooted the phone a few missing apps would surface. I now have all of the missing apps back and am going to uninstall App2SD.
