Root Overclocking- am I doing something wrong or am I just impatient?

Hey everyone, I just got my first Android phone a week or so ago- an Optimus V. I rooted it with Ginger Break a few days ago, and I wanted to take the next step and overclock it today, so that I can play games and stream video more quickly.

I've been using this guide: http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/277500-optimus-v-gaming-overclock.html

Unfortunately, I get stuck at part 2, "Flash Nandroid Recovery".
More specifically,
Your phone will reboot into flash recovery mode, click reboot

My phone reboots itself, but there is no "flash recovery mode" or an option to reboot. Just a black screen. When it reboots, it reboots, shows the LG splash, then goes into a black screen. I waited about a minute, pressed a few buttons to see if that would do something, then the phone rebooted, and everything booted normally. I tried again, same thing happened. Tried it again, but this time with the phone unplugged from the computer. My screen filled up with Out Of Memory errors. I ate some ice cream and cried myself to sleep. (not really)

I'm doing everything the guide says except for rooting, because I'm already rooted. The files are on the root of my SD card. I have superuser installed. I installed a terminal emulator.

Am I doing something wrong? Is the black screen normal, but I'm just not waiting long enough? Am I extremely impatient?
Thanks a bunch, and I hope I can get helped.
