Did anybody have the G2 before this phone?

I have the HTC G2 right now, and I'm thinking about moving to this phone, since I obviously love keyboards and cameras.

Anyways, I'm asking how people like the keyboard. I'm asking those coming from the G2. I seen one at the store, and I really don't like how smaller the keys look, and how there isn't a .com button, but that's not a deal breaker. And is that button a trackpad? Hope it is.

I tried typing with the keyboard, but it was those beat up demos, so I don't konw if I'd really like it. I liked the G2 from the get-go. I guess I'd get used to it, but I'm not to sure if I sure just wait until the Nexus 3 or Galaxy S2 hit's the US. I look at it, and I don't know if I should really get it. I mean, is the dual processor making you all happy? My G2 runs slow, sometimes, though it's still cool. I'd love for my 64 emulator to run smoothly without me overclocking it all the time. -_-

My main thought is the camera and I was really wanting to get the Samsung sch-w880 when it came out just for the camera.

I had both. Someone is playing with the 4g at the moment, but I thought the .com was to the left of the A on both phones. It's the bottom row that is slightly different. Personally I think both keyboards suck. But I'm used to real 5 row keyboards and cursor keys for navigation. so that whole HTC design for me is just cheap and flawed. I also thought the keys on the 4g were a little stiff.

The dual core is nice, but overall it wasn't blowing me away compared to my Epic on Sprint. Some things flowed a little smoother, but general use (not navigation through the OS) wasn't a major improvement to me.

I upgraded from a G2 recently and had the same concerns. Everyone has their own opinion... For me, the keypad on the mytouch slide isnt nearly as good. The buttons are spaced a little too far apart and I really miss the dedicated number row. Feels like I'm always using the alt key, and hitting the home button by mistake (very annoying).

The dual processors and 4g internet connection make the phone super fast, especially compared to the G2. The bright LED flash help to make the camera truely awesome. It's no Cannon, but certainly the best phone camera I've ever scene. I took pictures at a night concert a couple weeks ago that came out great. The panoramic feature works very well.

One other thing to consider is the battery life. If you're a heavy user, particularly videos, you would be lucky to get a few hours out of this phone.

Overall, I am happy with the upgrade. This keypad is the closest I found to the G2 and speed is fantastic.

4g slide has a .com button (alt turns it into www).

It also has a camera button so when a photo opportunity presents itself, you can just take your phone out of your pocket, press that button and press it again to take the pic.

With other phones you may have to go through all these steps and take a pic by pressing the screen. Not such a good solution.

you mean other phones like my Epic with a camera button, 4" screen and 5 row keyboard? Granted the Droid 3 lacks a dedicated button, but I'll take the 4" screen and 5 row keyboard on it any day over the 3.7" screen, 4 row stiff keyed keyboard and dedicated camera button.

I actually do as a demo from t-mobile. Would never buy it or keep it. It's making the rounds to the reps in the various areas to see how data speeds and signal strength are compared to sprint. If I switch us over we get them for free, and mine will be on ebay to help pay for the Bell version of the Droid 3.

Ari's statement would have you believe other phones don't have a dedicated camera button. It's not that unique.

My huawei ascend had a dedicated camera button, so i know that is pretty standard on most phones

How is the image quality of the epic camera? Not so good from what I've seen.

You can probably blame the photographer then. There is a photo thread on the Epic forum to refute what you've seen. I use mine in surgeries when I don't have my powershot and it gives some excellent detail and colors for a camera phone. When I took some side by sides with the 4g slide, couldn't tell much of a difference for as much as they've touted the camera on this thing. Just wasn't seeing it.

epic is garbage compared to the mytouch 4g slide.. don't listen to this bum LOL . keyboard is stiff at first and needs broken in kind of for fast typing on it.. stock onscreen keyboard kind of sucks but you can download others

If you want a real slider for tmob, pony up for the Motorola Milestone 3 from Bell up in Canada. HTC just doesn't get it. Moto does.

The problem is that most of us on these Android forums actually like rooting our phones and gaining S-OFF.

Just bought my MT4Gs last week as part of T-Mobile's smartphone sale. Very impressed with it so far, and I can't wait for CM-based ROMs to be ported to this device.

actually, most here? don't think so. most over at xda? yes. There are people that care more about actual phone usability than tweaking this that or the other thing so something scrolls smoother, has cooler lock screen or to steal tethering. And no ROM can compensate for a limited keyboard that lacks a dedicated number row and lack of cursor keys to make extensive emailing and document creation and editing more palatable. No ROM can turn the screen into 4+ inches for a better media experience. Sorry. But you guys enjoy smoother scrolling, faster screen switching and stealing tethering, because that's what makes a phone useful.

Nothing really against this phone. It's a nice option, but it's not a premium slider. It's got decent internals, but a small ok screen with a too firm keyed limited keyboard. If you're happy pressing the alt key all the time or moving your thumb up to the touchpad while typing to edit and move the cursor, great. It's just inefficient. Using the alt key to type numbers belongs on portrait qwerty candybars only. At least LG had a smart idea to put a dedicated number row and split the bottom letter row, separating it with the spacebar. A rather unique idea that people would adjust to quickly. HTC rolls out bland incremental upgrades of old designs and ignores updating the designs that have some innovation (TP2 and EvoShift).

Compared to the G2 the physical keyboard on the My Touch Slide is trash. The buttons just feel so weird when your pressing them, but all in all I love this phone more than my G2 lol dont miss it one bit aside from the keyboard.
