Interestingly, while I blame the developing team for making this mistake I don't really blame the QA people for not catching it. It's a very minor issue, that would only effect the market and only cause a problem if you are trying to install a Verizon app. It's not hard to imagine that even a very rigorous testing regime would miss that. About the only test for that problem would only be useful for check the build.prop file, and if it didn't occur to the developers to change the build.prop, they wouldn't have told the testers to test it.

Ummm.. developers generally don't tell QA what to test - good QA departments have their own testing, then report to the developers what is wrong.

Maybe the market thing may have slipped by, hell, normal users even had a hard time finding the Sprint section. But where in the About Phone it shows an Evo with a 4.3" screen? That should have been trivial to check! So sure, I'd blame QA.

It's also completely meaningless. That doesn't/shouldn't effect how any actual software on the phone acts. That's like somebody acidently point a "Frod Focus" on the back of the car, and then getting upset when the crash safety technician doesn't catch it. It's completely outside the scope of the testing.

And it's a CRITICAL part of software testsing/verification to have the Dev team tell the testers what needs testing. The testers then test to make sure it meets the requirements, checks for bugs in the newly implemented/revised software itself and check to make sure implementing the new software didn't cause any new bugs. They also test to make sure it will be installed correctly. If the dev team didn't tell them what needed testing, how could the testing people possibly do their jobs.
"Ok guys, were done with the update. We changed roughly 4% of the overall code. So retest the entire system from top to bottom, and report everything you find. Never mind that the vast majority of those bugs are completely known, and completely unrelated to our new software. And the fact that would take months and months, an army of software testers and will generally be a complete waste of time for 96% of the code."

Hey now, some of the best things come from our neighbors to the north....especially fun things like police called Mounties. And a lot of my favorite bands come from Canada.
I'm blaming the lobsters, the dingos, the gargoyles (cause I just know they're lying in wait) and the cheetos.

Damn Gargoyles!

I plan on jumping to one of the mostly stock GB roms this week... been needing to wipe and reload my phone for awhile :/

That should keep me going till my upgrade in Dec. Hopefully the HTC Vigor (incredible HD?) Is everything their claiming it should be!

While the rollout has been slowed drastically/halted to most likely fix the Apps on SD card issue , it does take about 14 days for the rollout to be complete and usually another 7-14 days for all to be updated.

Once the update is back in full swing, it will be at least 14 days until all phones are updated.

This has to do with how the phone is updated. This is also why the date change trick often works after 14-21 days.

And you know this for a fact, how? I've seen zero responses from Verizon confirming or denying such thing. The closest we've seen is someone's response to their tweet saying the rollout is ongoing.

I do remember you saying the rollout takes 7 to 14 days... but I don't recall a statement saying it'll take ANOTHER 7 to 14 days. So I could wait up to a month to see this update? Not withstanding any updates to the update?

Wonderful.

I blame Canada.
M A C!
I blame NightAngel79... If only I could find a picture of lobsters, cheetos, and gargoyles all fighting together! I might have to get creative in photoshop! :D
You sir have just been banned!! Bye Bye!!

(j/k)

or am I?
Please go to the gingerbread thread at top of page. It is still rolling out and many do not have it yet. Do not be surprised if it takes 12-14 days for last devises to be updated.
This is a ballpark estimate
I'm not sure where that came from. I've heard that the rollout can take many weeks.
Very true... just think of how many Inc there are in the wild... i think it is reasonable to assume at least 500k

Yes, it may take a month... unfortunately that is how it goes i'm afraid

Wonderful.

It is possible to have to wait that long. Usually you can get it earlier using the date trick. (This is usually after day 14 or so that the date trick becomes a possibility)

Verizon says very little officially because that is the way they do business. Many companies believe bad communications are worse than no communications. Thanks to forums and social media, a small communication can go from a person giving someone some extra info into people getting up in arms because the company did not deliver "as promised" even though no promise was ever made.

Despite the point made in this thread about the problems being minor, it is always best to wait a few more weeks and have the update flawless (as flawless as it can be)

For those unhappy about the wait, while understandable, remember that this update is not needed for the phone to perform at the level expected when your phone was purchased (and subsequently retained). Also, this update is of an EOL phone and thus is really above what was expected.

While I understand that the incredible does have some issues that people hope are addressed (out of space error and battery life), and thus feel the update is needed for the phone to perform as expected, I still maintain this update is more enhancement to phone than an update fix.

This is the only problem to having forums like this one (And there are way too many benefits to list) . People raise their expectations based on threads like this and then get angry when those expectations aren't met.

People, the solution to all your problems / issues is to forget the OTA and take the plunge to rooting. Seriously, I was so fed up with all these issues, that I decided to find an alternative and found Business Gingersense 3.0

All my problems / issues are fixed. Everything works on my phone, plus I'm using Sense 3.0
