I too did not like the texting and email so i downloaded go sms and i like it better and also downloaed the iphone keyboard so much better

Thanks for all the great comments from everyone. I'm trying to decide between the Epic Touch and the Photon, and I just keep going back and forth. Seems kind of unusual to me for two phones to be so good, and so similar in some aspects, and yet have some very unique differences.
The more I think about it, it seems to boil down to the "cool" or "wow" factor (the ET) vs. the more practical advantages (the MoPho). ET has the screen, the camera, the processor, and I actually like the more colorful UI. MoPho seems to have reception, call quality, resolution and build quality (at least some think so), not to mention price ($99 vs $149 ... not much, but still a point).
I think the wow-factor of the ET is probably going to win for me. The hardest choice is the lower resolution in the screen, but I think in day-to-day usage I probably won't notice that as much as the screen quality and processor speed.

I came from the Photon to ET. IMO the call quality has been great on both and the screen is better IMO on the ET.

So you don't miss the extra pixels (which translate into more data on the screen at once)?
One comparison screen shot showed an email inbox on both, same app ... the ET displayed like 5 messages and a relatively short subject line for each ... the Photon displayed 7 messages and several more characters in the subject line. That made an impression on me.
But like I said ... I think the general screen quality and processor speed of the ET would outweigh that.

I'm down to the same two phones and that's a good summary of my opinion of the two phones.
One issue that concerns me with the photon is there seem to be a quite a few people who are having random reboot issues (seems common with tegra 2 phones).
So my preference would be the Epic Touch... seems simple then, right? Well, I'm not eligible for an upgrade... and the epic touch is going for full retail on ebay. So if I want one it's $500+. Ouch.

It's pretty clear which one is the hands down winner as far as image quality. You can even look through both galleries on Engadget and see the Epic Touch trumps the 3D every single picture.
LOL, please tell me you're not serious, those are 2 different pictures taken from 2 different spots at different time of the day, how can you even compare? The pic taken with the 3D is darker because there was much less sunlight than the picture taken with the Samsung.
The Epic Touch 4G users are starting to remind me of iPhone users with their total lack of objectivity.

It's an apples/oranges comparison. Different locations, different lighting, who knows if it's even the same day or if any post processing has been performed. Shoot the same sunset in the same location, preferably simultaneously, but at the very least, one right after the other, same composition and lighting, with no enhancements, then compare.A sunset taken with the Evo 3D...

Okay everyone. I'm coming from EVO3D and have had the EPIC 4G Touch (Galaxy S2) for about 36 hours now. I'll give my thoughts as to comparing the EVO3D as I owned it since it released June 24th.
1. This thing is blazing fast. Switching screens and scrolling around. Installing apps it just flies. EVO3D was snappy as well but I have to give the edge to S2 because it is just a beast and never skips a beat. The EVO3D never did either but for me the S2 seems a tad quicker.
2. Screen display is amazing on the S2. The brightness and colors are amazing and really make an impression. EVO3D was good as well but pales in comparison outdoors as you can't see the screen. I do this everyday and really annoyed me everyday I was reminded.
3. Touchwiz vs Sense3.0. I'm new to touchwiz but honestly I give the edge to EVO3D in this department. The clock and weather display are amazing on the EVO3D in comparison. However I'm sure you can get adwlauncher or other launcher app to help the S2. I do miss this interface and look and feel from EVO3D. However this was not a deal breaker for me and I knew this coming in. Another thing I'll add is that I like the motion feature to be able to zoom and scroll on the S2. Little bells and whistles never hurt.
4. Battery life. My EVO3D was amazing on battery. To the tune of 55 hours with light\moderate use. Right now I have not had 2 full cycles with the S2 but I'm guessing its going to do just as well.
5. Size and weight. Hands down this is lighter and HUGE display. I had my EVO3D in an otterbox so it was big, but I wanted to protect it. I took it out when I was comparing and the S2 hands down kills the EVO3D in display screen size. While the resolution is bigger than EVO3D the size and weight make up for it. I will be getting an otterbox for the S2 when it's available as well. I have to admit I have not gotten used to the size of the phone width, as far as holding it in one hand. It does feel like I could drop it without both hands if not careful. I'm 6'2 so it's not that I have small hands. I'm sure once I get the otterbox on it this will help some too.
6. Benchmarks. S2 pretty much wins in all catergories. However it's not that the EVO3D is inferior or even that far behind. EVO3D holds it's own and would be nothing to be ashamed of if you own one.
7. Camera. EVO3D while the 3D is a great conversation piece it's not anything that brilliant or great. Don't get me wrong at first it's cool to mess with but I never even used 3D pics\videos 99% of the time. In fact when I would show people 3D pics most of them would complain that it hurt their eyes and they had a headache. S2 is better in the camera area for sure. Limited pictures I have taken are pretty awesome.
Final Verdict?
Well I'm happy I made the switch. I love the screen size. It's like having a mini plazma tv in your pocket you can pull out at any time. Being able to use the phone outdoors without struggling to see the screen also makes me feel better about the switch. The odd thing about the EVO3D is that I have had way lower quality phones be able to be seen in the sunlight. So that is just a killer. If you're thinking of making the switch it all comes down to what you like. The EVO3D felt like a brick in my hands. And I didn't like the shutter button on the side getting stuck on my pocket or scraping my hand. So again another reason I'm glad I made the switch.
Another thing of note. The S2 doesn't come with and external micro sd card and the EVO3D does. Not a big deal though as these are cheap and easy to put in. Just throwing that out there. I'm happy with the S2 and at the end of the day knowing I have one of the best, if not the best phone out there.....makes my decision feel better too.

Obviously they aren't the same photo, they are both sunsets though. It was the closest engadget had to offer. You can easily compare photos, even if they are from different spots. Compare the detail, the color, the saturation, etc..
Also if you would have bothered the read the rest I pointed out there plenty of pictures in both galleries and that the Epic Touch does in fact take better pictures. Every single review for Epic Touch has said the camera is amazing, top of the line, etc. The Evo 3D didn't impress anyone.

I was simply pulling from Engadget. They both took sunset shots with both phones so I chose those. But there are plenty of photos in both galleries to compare.

I read your entire post; I don't think I missed anything. But due to the different light sources in each image, the software in each camera metered the shots differently.
The 3vo may or may not capture less detail, but in any case it's not demonstrated in that shot. The camera software focused and exposed for the sky, which is why the cables are so much sharper than the bus and the cars. Everything else is underexposed, so the details are sacrificed. The Touch prioritized the foreground, so you see more detail there, but the area just above the horizon is hopelessly overexposed and blown out. One way to overcome challenging lighting is to select an evaluative metering mode. Another way is to compose for the lighting you want, hold the setting, then reframe and shoot. Then again, they're just cell phones, I don't know if either option or technique is possible with either one.
The point is that the only thing those shots have in common is that they they are taken around sunset. Beyond that, they do not present a valid, objective, apples to apples comparison of camera quality or capability.

IM RETURNING MINE: first off id like to say the phone is extremely fast and the camera is the best ive scene...however, there is a known problem with this phone in regards to its wifi...idk if its just displayed wrong or if it cant really reach max connection. moving on, going from my evo to the ET4G my phone signal actually got worse in my home. Im always roaming where as before i was not. i called sprint and they also confirmed my phone was faulty. When i initially purchased it last friday i was hesitant bc i know the prime is quite possibly around the corner and the Evo 4g is still more than enough to suffice my needs...call it a bit of buyers remorse supported by some minor problems that bug me.
pro: fast, amazing screen, felt like my battery life doubled compared to evo, camera, FRONT camera was noticeably better, downloaded a lot more apps due to more storage, light, and actually felt better in the hand than evo even though its a bigger screen, 4g turned on amazingly fast
CONS: wifi problem, poor signal compared to evo, some of samsungs setting were hard to look past IE: brightness in my browser did not change when id change brightness of my phone...however, changing brightness of browser DID change phone's brightness...also, samsung hides many features like zoom with camera (vol buttons), of the 16gb almost 5 is used for the OS etc, and the speaker is at the bottom which i kinda didnt like. again, im nit picking...
its a great phone, but i think if there wasnt so much coming out so soon id stick with it. if only we got it when the rest of the world did id be only about 14 months away from nxt upgrade...sprints new upgrade policy change (i was once a yr) has really changed my purchasing habits. muuuust waaaait...thanks

I received my phone last night. I have nothing but great things to say. Coming from a rooted OG Evo I thought for sure I would miss Sense, but so far I have not. Touch whiz has came a long way. Maybe i'm more use to it since I have a Galaxy Tab also, even though I use SPB Shell on that.
I would like to say the screen is just amazing, it's more than amazing actually. The screen is so vivid and the colors are flawless, especially the blacks, they are so rich. It was a little cloudy yesterday, but I didn't have any problems with using my phone outside, so can't really comment on a bright sunny day. But, the screen is a thousand times better than my Evo. One of my friends has the original Epic, and this screen is better than his.
Speed, speed, and speed, this phone does everything faster. I have never been able to download a app from the market and have it installed so fast. Most seemed like 1 or 2 seconds and bam, they were installed. The screen scrolls very fast, no lag what so ever. Setting up my wi-fi and everything was a breeze, it picked it up immediately, and I tested the gps also, and the lock was immediate, faster than my evo.
The camera is really good also, lots of settings, can't find the one to turn the shutter sound off yet, but, haven't fooled with that to much. I can't comment on the video aspect because I haven't used that yet. I did watch some netflix and the picture again was very, very good. This phone is just amazing. This phone is one sexy beast. The phone is very light, but still feels solid in the hand, it's not to big at all, it's the perfect size, I don't think I would want one larger than this, unless the button at the bottom were removed and the screen was bigger without changing dimentions.
I purchased the carbon fiber case also with the kickstand, and it's very good also. The phone looks amazing, solid black, doesn't seem to reflect light like my Evo does, it's just a beautiful piece of hardware. Sorry if I seem to jump around, i'm just excited and typing thoughts as they come to me.
Final thoughts: Samsung, you have a winner here, by far the best phone I have ever used, and have seen. If they keep this bad boy updated, and can get Ice Cream Sandwich on here pretty quickly, it will be even better. I haven't rooted it yet, i'm waiting for it to get better with the root that's out there, but, this is probably the first phone I have had where I don't think I need to root.
If your on the fence about this phone, jump off and go buy one.
UPDATE: Forgot to talk about signal since some people have said their Evo 3D had better signal, I didn't have the Evo 3D but I did have the OG Evo and had bad reception in my house, I have a better signal with my Epic 4G Touch, I have 2 to 3 bars in my house where I use to have none.

This truly has to be a joke. I had a 3D and the signal strength even after the radio update was abysmal. The rear speaker was and is a joke. My wife is a light sleeper and the alarm through the rear speaker was so weak on that device it wouldn't even stir her. IMHO unless you like 3D or a smaller but sharp screen, the Epic Touch is a much better device. And please...having to get your own SD card isn't a reason to go with a lesser phone that comes with one.

Don't just look at the bars. My ET while showing less bars has a better WIFI signal than my Evo 4G spare phone and a stronger phone signal as well. I can't comment on 4G as we don't have 4G available here where I live.

But you clearly did miss the part where I said there were galleries for both for you to compare as well. You seem hung up on these two photos. Yes, I posted the two photos, but I wasn't going to post every single photo from each gallery and clog up the thread.

The battery life makes me smile. From a full charge since 7am and moderate use of a few text messages in between classes and during breaks , and a little browsing I managed to still have 75%

It's worth pointing out that the wins for the MoPho are slim wins. Reception is a tiny difference, I'm rethinking my evaluation of the call quality (I've made more calls and everyone else says I sound perfectly clear), resolution is inconsequential from a pixel size point of view (seeing more on the screen is nice I suppose), and I'm not sure what specials you're getting, but both phones are $199 with a 2 year contract for me.
Related to another discussion taking place: a gallery of photos is more than enough to determine which camera is better. The most similar images available were posted for convenience. While not ideal, you can easily see hints that the GS2 camera is better in them.
