Let me add Beautiful Widgets plus BW Animation package- Set of widgets that look like HTC Sense. It's worth the money but if you want to get it free...get it at getjar. It's free for a limited time.

Those who are not familiar with getjar...the only thing that's sucks is that the updates to their apps might not be free and I don't think it's an automatic update like the one in the Android Market.

Beautiful Widgets Android app now free at GetJar

dude you are the man. i have been looking for this option from the android platform. 200 thumbs up brother!

DroidLight - Best flashlight app i have found. Its simple and to the point. Ive tried all the flashlight apps and this is the most simple and reliable. does need an update for the bionic coming from my X. but still simply works.

Zillow - Real estate app that you basically can search overheard via google maps and it has all kind of filters to find the right house. Pictures, sq footage, yr built, it has all the specs you could want right in your hand. Ofcourse im shopping for a house right now so this is a must have.

PowerAmp - Best music player I have found for android. Has so many settings and automatically downloads artwork for songs if you dont have it. Has a crossfade setting! Fully customizable EQ. A must have if you listen to alot of MP3's on your bionic.

Screen Filter - Reduces the brightness of your screen for nighttime viewing. even with the stock brightness all the way down i find it too bright at night.

NBC Weather Warning - Runs in the status bar with the temp. Alerts you if severe weather is headed your way. saved me a few times when i was gonna leave the house on the motorcycle. also alerts you based on your GPS location (if traveling). Has full doppler radar built in that screams with the bionics dual core cpu and 1gb of ram. does NOT waste your battery.

open your stock, android browser. Type "about:debug" into your URL box and hit "go". now open your browser settings, scroll all the way down to the bottom, select "UAString" and select "desktop".

5 top choices for functionality and design:

* Dolphin Browser--lots of features and add ons, a few skins.

* Handcent--custom fonts, skins, bubbles--text messages are actually a pleasure to view. Mine have an ocean theme with cool drinks in the corner.

* K-9 Mail--I'm easily managing 9 IMAP accounts, color-coded, with many advanced settings. (Easily after setup, that is; all the customization takes a while!)

* GoLancher EX--just discovered thanks to a forum thread. Additional screens, three dock panels with five items each, many skins.

* Beautiful Widgets--also new to me thanks to a thread. Varied, customizable, and attractive.

Gee, think you could guess from my faves that I'm a "girl"? Love that beautiful stuff!

6 other apps I use every day:

* Audible--listening to books in my car dock, mounted to the glass right behind my steering wheel. (I'm in California where the law limits the permissible windshield mountain area to about postage stamp size. So I can't see my RPMs; I'm driving an Elantra--who cares?)

* Amazon MP3 player--my entire CD/MP3 collection in the cloud. Free!

* Pandora--when I want someone else to suggest music I might like.

* TuneIn Radio--many local radio stations across the country. Works well, unlike IHeartRadio for Clear Channel-owned stations. (When are they going to fix that bugfest!!??)

* Verizon FIOS DVR controller--set the DVR remotely for the program my husband forgot to schedule and apparently can't figure out how to do from his Incredible.

* Games: Dice Me (Yahtzee), Solitaire, WordTwist.

Loving finally getting the good out of my apps with the dual-core LTE!

Elixir looks good except after I use a Widget it disappears. I select it from the pull down and it places it on the in use Home screen. Then when I use a Widget it disappears

What an I doing wrong to get it to stick?

adFree - just what it says - no ads on rooted phones!

Our groceries - make lists that sync to Internet and between devices

Latitude - I can find DH when he's out on a run or he can find me when I'm mountain biking in the woods! (Of course this assumes you have nothing to hide ;) )

Elixir widget - don't know how I lived without this guy! I like a clean home screen - this puts up to 9 apps/widgets in one row (and other sizes)

Shazam - in the car and something new comes up on sirius - just hit SHAZAM and then I can download it later

I guess that's 5 but there're are more I love!

I am using the stock launcher, to start with.

Just so we are doing it the same, to install an Elixer Widget (or any, for that matter) I go to the home screen I want to use > Long press on a blank spot on the home screen until menu pops up > Choose Widgets > Scroll to the "Elixer" widget you want to use > In Elixer, tap on the "X" of the widget > choose what you want on the widget. When all your choices are done, DON'T FORGET TO CHOOSE "CREATE" at the bottom of Elixer...than it will be on your homescreen.

Good luck!

Should the Elixir Widget I created have the same name in the list. I made one named Test but only see a number Elixir #x# (1*# icons). #=0 to 9

OK I got it. On E Widget row created. But now to figure out how to dump the bar o the pull down. Got it. In the E program and not the Widget install. Cool program now to get organized and sump the other Widgets.

No my top 5 as of today and to be undated if I remember.

1. Droid48 calculator. Great RPN calculator just like the one I use at work. ( I don have a slide rule) This si free and has conversions.
2. Pocket Informant when they figure out the Sync to Outlook. I like all the options it wiill do and use on my i device.
3. Elixir Widgets. So custom. Once I figured out how to start is is easy.
4. Quickoffice. So much better than DTG.
5.

Speedtest so you can show people things like this:
Connection Type: Lte
Server: Ensenada
Download: 24561 kbps
Upload: 13958 kbps
Ping: 63 ms

3G speeds already made my AT&T iphone friend sad. LTE speeds almost make me sad. It's faster than my cable modem :/

your phone is NOT faster than a broadband cable connection. even if your only paying for 10MB speeds. theres alot more to inet speed than MBPS. Latency and packet loss are 4 to 20 times worse with a 4G connection than broadband.

open your stock, android browser. Type "about:debug" into your URL box and hit "go". now open your browser settings, scroll all the way down to the bottom, select "UAString" and select "desktop".

tried it, it didnt work. maybe im doing something wrong.

Ten in no particular order ... I recommend each of them ...

Fancy Widgets (in place of Beautiful Widgets).

RealCalc - allows Oct, Dec, and Hex calculations and support RPN (Reverse Polish Notation)

No Lock (the best I've found) - selectively get rid of that swipe action when the Bionic wakes up.

My Tracks - record your trip - turn it on, go where you go, turn it off and you have a record of where you went.

Smart Tools - a collection of tools for making measurements in ways that will astound you (will make you remember all your 8th grade geometry). He sees the wold a different way.

VolumerPro - gain control of your volume controls.

Weather Bug Elite

Barcode Scanner

Google Maps

Vortex Galaxy - Live Wallpaper - they have a bunch of other ones that are great - this one is my favorite.

... Thom

Quickdesk. get it here.https://market.android.com/details?id=sg.ruqqq.quickdesk&feature=search_result

I set it up for a long press on the search soft key. So when you long press the search key it pops up, press the middle of the screen and you can add widgets or apps that you want to access. Also across the bottom will be the most used apps. This will pop up on whatever screen or app you are on.

I just got & love this one:

"Orientation Lock" $1.49
It resides in the pull down bar. Gives me the ability to lock the screen in any direction. I watch a lot of TV & Movies on my Bionic and I can flip it around so that the power & hdmi inputs are on the top when my phone is on it's side...I don't use a dock. So I can charge while watching TV on phone, while on it's kickstand.
Rooting NOT required.

My top 5 have already been mentioned except for -

RingLock Pro - It allows you to lock your call and notification volumes at a specific level or on vibrate or silence. But what makes this app better than other volume lockers are the Event Timers, Scheduler and VIP list.

I've made up a few Event Timers of various time lengths for vibrate only. For example, if I go to a movie I use my 2 hour vibrate only Event Timer. Then at the end of the 2 hours the phone automatically reverts back to my previous ringer settings. I no longer have to remember to turn my ringer back on.

And the widget allows easy access to the functions.

There's more features which you can read about at the developer's site - Studio LFP - RingLock Pro Description

It's $1.99 but to me it's more than worth it.

And the developer is very responsive to any problems or suggestions.

1. Widget Locker + GO SMS - allows me to respond to texts right from my lockscreen. So much more convenient. Some threads say that widget locker drains the battery - not sure if thats true, but its worth it for me.
2. Mp3 Music Download - free music downloads
3. Frozen Bubble Plus - favorite game, although the graphics aren't very advanced.
4. Phandroid - enough said
5. Timeriffic - makes sure my phone doesn't play my obnoxious ringtone during work

Love this thread! I've found so many apps I never knew existed!

Who needs Suri?! My Bionic is truly alive (AI wise) after loading this app.

I just (today) installed "VOICE ACTIONS" - FREE ...pretty cool:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pannous.voice.actions.free&feature=search_result

EDIT: It made my Bionic super fun to mess with! To spice it up even more, I changed the default voice on my Bionic (downloaded the free app - "Ivona Text-to-Speech HQ" - very smooth and not very robotic now)

Watch the Demo:
Voice Actions - Assistant for Android - YouTube

Examples:
Features of Voice Actions:

SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO

  • call James at home
  • text Maria that I love her
  • news about Barack Obama
  • set alarm clock: wake up monday at 8am
  • ask for the distance to the moon,
  • the capital of brazil... and other simple facts!
  • play music by bach
  • launch browser
  • open contact Peter
  • search ebay, amazon, wolfram, etc.
  • where is berlin center
  • translate I love you to spanish
  • email john ... I liked your song

  • contact john doe
  • remind me to pick up Joe in 30 minutes

I also like:

Drive Safely.ly SMS & EMAIL Reader - FREE VERSION:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.drivesafe.ly&feature=search_result

Free version has girl with nice (non-robotic) voice who will read your emails and texts (when on) in your car, or anywhere.

For fun: She will read "anything you say" (no filters). I have had fun with that. I'm bad!

It works really well, on the serious side.

Just to get back to a fun thread, I just found and loaded "Smarter Alarm".

Very cool. I'm awakened by my Bionic greeting me by my name. Then I get (all customizable): news, weather, sports, scores from my favorite teams, my scheduled appointments for the day, RSS FEEDS, stocks, this day in history, quote of the day, custom message and more. Only negative is it cost $4 (free version is too limited). I would buy it again though.

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.edwardkim.android.smarteralarmfull&feature=search_result

Btw, my Bionic reads/ talks smooth now since I added "Ivona" (free)...no longer robotic "navigation" voice.

Yes, I still LOVE my Bionic. Just like I love Football and Italian food. LOL

Voice Actions

I've been using SpeakToIt Assistant until I read this post, Voice actions is so much better! I will admit though, it has some strange bugs to it. For example when it confirms it will set an alarm for 10:30 the next morning, instead the alarm immedietly goes off.

That being said, it does so much so well I don't care!

Can't find a free version. The link you show points to "Jeannie" app which shows as not being compatible with the Bionic.
