Idiotic reason to NOT use Virgin Mobile :)

So I was listening to my sister complain about how her G1 service with t mobile is over $100/month last night. Also mentioned that she was tired of that phone and could upgrade to something else in November. When she upgraded to that phone, she shelled out over $100 for it as I recall. Anyway, I suggested she ditch t mobile like I did (her contract is over) and go with vm. Then, and get this, she said: "But your phone has no blinking light on it. That won't work for me, gonna stick with t mobile." Yeah, it's so worth paying well over $50/month more for a blinking light. Duh. Also, and I can't figure this one out; she doesn't really use ANY of the features of the G1. I mean none. She asked me last week what time a place closed. I told her I didn't know and why didn't she look it up. "Huh? Where? Do I text google for the number you mean?" No, LOOK IT UP. I mean what is the point of even having any smart phone if you don't even use the features? Frankly, I don't even think she does anything more than text with it and take pictures with it's shitty quality camera. No facebook, no email (has a gmail account she never checks). I'm thinking this is not an uncommon occurrence. Don't they still make phones that just text and call? Maybe those phones are uncool and for outcasts only, I dunno.

I don't think it's so much about the features, but the simple fact that I drove just 2 hours from home the other day and lost my signal, completely, and it was 6 more hours of driving before I re-entered a VM service area. Obviously, if you're travelling, and need mobile phone connectivity, VM isn't for you.

On the other hand, if you want a blinking light, you could simply grab a Triumph on the VM network I suppose.

Well, for one thing, my sister doesn't travel or leave Chicago pretty much ever, so non issue there. I go to Detroit, St Louis, KC, NYC, Columbus, SF and judging from service area coverage map, looks like no issues for me. Then again, I don't drive unless I rent a car, so there could be areas of no coverage in BF IL. Service in BF MI seems alright. Where are you based out of?

Yeah, the blue light thing...

I kinda agree with the travelling, it depends on user habits. I've been with VM for 10 years and never gave thought about their coverage, I've driven across the southwest and flew all over the us and never lost a signal LOL, as long as I stayed on the Interstate hwys, I'm covered. When flying, phone is off so no issues there, every airport, even small regionals have coverage.

Until recently, I could do was claim ignorance about VM. I had a contract with T Mobile and a Blackberry and was generally happy with the service. I felt like the monthly bill was ok, and less than my friend's with the same service on Verizon, so I never thought much about it. Then a mystery $50 charge showed up on my bill and not only could their customer service not explain it, they would not waive it. I mentioned this and the fact that my contract had been over for nearly a year and my buddy mentioned VM. Did some research and on my friend's advice I went to Radio Shack and switched. I'm saving about $55/month and this phone KILLS the BlackBerry I had. I almost feel stupid not doing this sooner.

I agree. I had Verizon and a LG Rumor, and my wife (at the time) had the BB Curve. We were happy, but the bill for both our phones was pushing the $150 mark every month. That's like a car payment. I now have the optimus V and pay the $45 a Month, and the service is just as good as my Verizon, and the V is just as good as the Envy was (minus the slide out keyboard and "blinky" LED). I kick myself for not switching sooner. For the two of us it was almost a $90 a month saving every month.
