Root CCM7 V14 Running SLOW

Interesting. I am running V17 and it's pretty snappy. I still think that, all things being equal, xtrSENSE seems faster most of the time, but I see very little lag myself.

Saying that, I do not run Google Music. I play no music at all on the Eris - I struggle to get the battery through the day, so I try not to tax it with things I do not needs (since I have an iPod Touch, I really don't need the phone to be a music player.) So, I'm not sure if that's what's causing your lag - I don't know enough about that app.

Settings->applications->battery use - what are the top five or six items in that list, and what are the percentages? Are you changing the default clock speeds with an app like SetCPU and, if you are, what are the changes?

Thanks for the response! I think I'm running v14.

I don't use Google Music that much, so I'm thinking of removing it. Maybe it might make the phone go faster.

If I wanted to update my version, would I put the zip file on my SD card, wipe the dev cache or whatever, and the flash this new version?

Also, here are my top items on my list: Voice Calls (58%), Display (21%), Cell Standby (7%), Phone idle (7%), and Android System (4%).

Right, this version would require a full wipe data/factory reset and reloading everything from scratch. You could use Titanium Backup to backup all of your apps and data and then reload them after you reinstall the ROM.

That doesn't sound all that unusual. You must talk a lot.

I also am getting a lot of dropped calls. If I try to call Verizon, and they say "What version are you running, and Eris never got to Android 2.1, and I'm running 2.3, what do I say?

Ok, I will do this. Do you think I should go with ccm7 v18 or xtrsense?

I think this might come from the dropped calls.

The great thing is that you can try both. However, if running Google Music is not all that important anymore (and you can try Amazon Cloudplayer - that runs fine on 2.1), xtrSENSE is excellent.

I really like both ROMS myself. I have some usability issues with stock Eris, so also with xtrSENSE, but they are really minor and/or somewhat solvable. (Namely, calendar event notifications tend to not allow me to snooze them, so they go off every five minutes; Messaging does not have a built-in capability to erase old messages as they are received - for example, I can set CM7 ROMs to delete all but the last 50 messages in any conversation automatically; I've also had severe lag with the phone app making calls, taking up to two minutes to actually dial a call.)

If you run xtrSENSE, of course, you can tell Verizon that you are running stock.

One last thing - you really can hold the Eris wrong when making calls. If I put my hand or a finger covering the area where the camera lens is - basically, the top one third of the back of the phone - I will get voice dropouts and dropped calls. If I leave that area uncovered, phone calls tend to be far, far better.

I think I'll go with xtrSENSE then! Thank you!

Do you suggest I use this one?: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/264342-xtrrom-5-0-beta-available-now.html

The radio and PRL versions could also play a role in dropped calls. You can find what radio you are using by going to settings -> about phone -> baseband version. The latest one from Verizon is 2.42.01.04.27.

The PRL is listed under settings -> about phone -> status -> PRL Version. I believe the newest PRLs Verizon put out will be of the form 525##.

That link takes you to the latest version of xtrROM but if you prefer xtrSENSE, that is here:

Thank you everyone! I'll check my radio settings now!

And doogald, I think I did do a Nandroid backup, but it was with an older version of xtrSENSE and I really don't have apps/customization that I don't want deleted. Do any of these things matter?

No, then sure you can just install the latest version. It's a good idea, as it will incorporate the small bug fixes that were in the March 2011 over-the-air update.
