It actually is! let me start by saying by no means did i turn everything off, i use my phone normally, this means internet on, no airplane mode, gmail sync, school email sync every hour, etc. i use screen brightness on low at night medium in the day. I use juice defender so internet goes off with screen but thats about it.

My phone has a standard battery in it right now. it is at 9% and it has been unplugged since 10:30 on friday night, it is not 11 on sunday morning. that is 36.5 hours unplugged! and i have been using my phone as a phone, for internet, texting, everything i normally use it for normally.

I downloaded a battery calibration app (rooted phones only) this is how i acheived this awesome battery life. the app is called.

Battery Calibration by NeMa, what it does is delete the file: batterystats.bin and your phone generates a fresh file. (the purpose of that file is to change the battery bar in the task bar.) pointless for me anyways since i use battery indicator)

by the way before i calibrated my battery was lasting 9 hours at most and my extended was at about 23. i now no longer even need the bulky extended battery though.

the most i got out of my extended battery was 35 hours and that was pushing it after a normal calibration. (discharge recharge discharge recharge.)

awdcivic,

Glad to hear you are having great battery life on your phone.

That's a very nice app you've made us aware of...thank you for that :).

Just wanted to make sure you are aware that "battery calibration" is really "battery statistics calibration"--there is nothing really being done to the battery itself that would cause it to give better battery life. As you indicated, all that's being done is resetting / wiping the battery stats so that the percentage charge that is reported is correct / accurate.

There is a circumstance that I can imagine that having more accurate battery stats will result in better battery life (aside from the subtle, subliminal knowledge that might make you use your phone a little less when you know the battery is running low) is when you are running and overclocking program with profiles that take effect when the percent charge reaches a certain threshold.

For example, if you're using an overclocking app and you have a profile set to drop your clock rate (and/or voltage) to a lower speed once the battery reaches 40%, you will obviously use less battery.

I've founds that the most effective way to use less battery is to simply turn off auto-sync in various apps (i.e., Gmail, etc.)--especially during the nighttime hours when I really don't need it to. There's obviously a ton of different, effective strategies for increasing your battery life like you've already mentioned (Juice Defender, screen brightness).

Anyway, just my two-cents here.

Cheers and excellent info!

Personally, I hate the idea of using Juice Defender (or any other app that turns off data). I tried using a similar app but waiting for data to come back on when I turn on my screen defeats the purpose of having a fast phone/network. You SHOULD be able to go days on standby with data off so it's not that remarkable to go 38 hours with data being switched off a majority of the time.

On the weekends when I'm around wifi the majority of the time, I've gone two days between charges with normal usage. That includes streaming pandora, listening to music, playing games, etc. The thing that kills our phones are the 3g/4g radios.

Edit: Also, some of you may not notice a difference after using the battery calibration app. The battery stats file is just that, statistics. Statistics get more accurate when more data is collected. So, Android will calibrate the battery itself over time. It's when you're flashing ROMs or swapping batteries that can skew the stats in the file. Once your stats get skewed, deleting the file allows for a quicker calibration (quicker than letting the stat file get more accurate by collecting more data over time).
