For those of you who have insurance on your phone....

I have Asurion insurance for both my Bionic and my wife's Droid X. Today in the garage my wife had a neck spasm that pinched a nerve and her whole right side went numb. Of course the X falls right out of her hand and face down onto the concrete. Shattered the glass. Out of warranty and six months from an upgrade, I called Asurion from the emergency room. Ten minutes and $50 later we have a replacement being sent to the house the next day.

That's quite unfortunate about you wife, Hola. I hope she's recovered fully and that her neck spasms can be treated (I've seen that in a co-worker, not fun when it happens :().

But it's great that Asurion took care of you, a classic example of the deductible being worth it (this time ;)).

As posted above, I always go for the total coverage.. I guess I'm one of those who make insurance companies rich because I've never had to file a claim. :D

check with your homeowners agent if you have homeowners insurance. I added a rider for my phone (droid X) for about $18 per YEAR. covers loss, damage, etc. no deductible.

I pay $15 per year for a rider that covers $5,000 in electronic equipment. Doesn't matter what it is. TV, laptop, desktop, cell phone - if I lose it or it's stolen, it's replaced. if I break it, I bring it to a shop to have it diagnosed (usually costs $20-40) and whatever they recommend is covered by the rider. I actually got a free laptop out of that a couple of years back when my old one got knocked off the table, so I can say that the riders are definitely worth it.

I'm planning on buying the Bionic (coming from an Eris). Is it worth getting insurance for my future Bionic? I've read through forums and articles and it seems that phone insurance is a hassle when needed. I've never had insurance before.

Does anyone have any experience dealing with phone insurance? Thanks in advance!

I have always used squaretrade. I paid $95 for a two-year plan (look for discount codes online). Accidental damage and liquid damage is covered with a $50 deductible. Warranty items are covered with no deductible. If you have a claim, you send them the phone and they send you a check for the retail value of the phone. They do NOT cover loss or theft.

Verizons insurance is a monthly fee ($7 I think?) and a higher deductible, but they do cover loss and theft. They send you a refurb if you make a claim.
