+1 on using the advanced restore option in recovery. It is extremely easy and like he said it restores EVERYTHING

Always make a nandroid before restoring anything system (green or red) from Titanium and especially advanced restoring data. :D

Something to think about:
The pro version of Titanium will batch restore with only a couple prompts.

The free version will require two or three prompts for every app restored (three if it's already installed).

I usually "restore all apps with data" and uncheck what I don't want.

OK, so here's what I did. Cleared the partition cache, rebooted, downloaded the update, all was good, but lost root. Then I inadvertently downloaded the older version of the root zip found here, and got root back. I should probably do it again with the newest version so I can get unroot access, but who needs that? :D

Thanks to all for the tips.

In Titanium, you can select settings>batch>backup>backup all user apps.

(If you restore all user apps when you get into .605 it is important you do not restore system apps as that will mess up your new system files and give you trouble booting up.)

My personal preference to backing up and restoring apps is to do what's called a "nandroid" or a total rom backup.

You do this through Droid 2 Bootstrapper, which you probably have, if you are rooted. If not, it's available in the market.

You boot into recovery (clockwork mod recovery), select backup and restore. Then select backup to backup your current rom. This will back up EVERTHING. You can fall back on this going forward if you have any mess ups. It's good always have. I update mine regularly.

Get your .605 going (I'll tell you about SBF in a second). Root it and go back into recovery. Then select backup and restore. This time select "advanced restore". This will enable you to restore only your data. Your ENTIRE data, setup and everything. It's really too easy. :)

As to sbf'ing: SimsDelt put a detailed tutorial up about it here.

I hope this helps!

Can I use advanced restore to go from rooted 602 to CM7GB, or do I just need to use titanium?

I did exactly this and it worked great. No sbf-ing needed. I re-rooted with the same one-click application I used in 602.

Then what? What do I use to get root back? All my data will remain as is?

Yes your data should remain the same. Some people are experiencing boot loops even if they are completely stock but rooted. If you bootloop don't worry. The second time it boots it will enter cwr and just clear the cache partition and you will boot normally. If the update is successful go to this link Pete's Motorola Root Tools and scroll down for the Droid X instructions for root.

All done. I unfroze and accepted the OTA. Then I tried the one click from the cmd prompt and it said it worked, but I wasn't rooted after the reboot. I then deleted su according using adb according to the directions on the link above. The I re-ran the one click root. This time I also unplugged when it booted into recovery and then I booted into the OS before it finished the rooting.

I think that was probably my issue first time.

OK, little noob confusion here...

Do I need to unroot prior to .605 OTA or not?

And general unroot Q, what happens to the data on the SD card when you sbf, do I/should I remove the card prior to running the RSDLite? I ask because my Titanium backup is on that card, if it were wiped I'd loose all my backups.

Thanks, this forum and thread are great, lots of info and I'm learning tons!

Quick question: I know that people who are already rooted are able to reroot after (eventually) getting 605 installed, but will a never rooted phone also be able to be rooted with 1-click after the update? I assume so, but just want to make sure. I have the update downloaded but not installed, and I've never rooted my phone, although I think I want to now, although I'm still hoping for one more update to fix that stupid camera bug!

if you have modified any system files then you won't get the OTA .605.

IF your stock .602 but just rooted ( by stock i mean you have not removed any bloat or froze it or anything) then you should be able to get the update even if your rooted.

It is a good habit to make back ups of your SD card regularly. However doing an SBF does not alter your SD card or even affect it.

I am pretty tired of these updates that fix next to nothing. I don't like the keyboard lag, but I am not going to SBF to get it fixed. I simply re-named the BlurUpdater_VZW.apk to .bak in root explorer under system apps.

Never get another OTA notification again. Glad to help for those who don't want to take this update and keep getting that annoying notification every few hours.

My reason for not taking .605 is because I will wait until some good ROMs come out for it or until MIUI is able to fix the camera issue at 6MP (I really like the widescreen res...)

so my question is to you. Would you rather not see any updates for long periods of times or frequent updates to know that at least Moto/VZW haven't forgotten about the X?
