K-9 Email

Yesterday I relaid out K-9 with my individual email accounts. I now get unique sidebar colors for each email account. I also see that my indicator light flashes with the color of the email account when a message arrives (VERY Cool!)

However, I'm still getting frequent "Timeout" and other errors with K-9, especially with my GMail account.

Help! :eek::eek::eek:
what do you mean you "relaid" it? my individual accounts have different colors since the new update, but my notification led for all the acconts is still the same, purple for all of them.

A few comments regarding K-9 Mail.

First of all, I use it for ALL of my POP email accounts and I really like the app. Not perfect, but far better than the stock Gmail and Email apps.

Second, I always update using their DOWNLOADS page. They seem to lag far behind with their Market updates. Although, probably rightfully so as a lot of their updates are beta versions.

Lastly, you may want to play with using either POP or IMAP settings for your Gmail account. If you simply setup Gmail when you first open K-9, it defaults to an IMAP account. You can change this later on manually.

Hi! do you have any idea what the 2504 update from the downloads page does?! You always seem to have answers lol...thx!

How do I stop K9 from deleting existing messages on my phone when I check for new messages? I've downloaded email to my PC and wish to stop K9 from deleting messages on the phone after I've dowloaded those same email messages to my PC.

I wish to retain all messages and manually delete them from my phone when no longer needed. Often times when I'm traveling, I may think of something that I want to send a customer/prospect after I've retreived emails on my PC.

How can I have K9 store email messages on my storage card?

I agree, this is my top complaint along with not being able to edit forwarded email.

K-9 sucks a bit less than the stock app, but not by much. With all the Android developers out there, someone ought to be able to write a good email app.

By "relaid out", I meant that I set up K-9 with individual email accounts instead of sending K-9 my one GMail account that pulled from all my other email accounts.

And, you are correct: I only see a purple LED flash for any K-9 mail. I was mistaken. It just so happened that I received mail on my "purple" K-9 email account and my "green" K-9 email account at about the same time I got a hit from GMail - which had a green LED indication. I misread that as a "account specific" LED indication (which would be darned cool! :))

That said, I still have a LOT of problems with K-9 failure messages - at least a couple every day. Can anyone help?

I can not get K9 to work on my Droid for a Yahoo account. I get Username or password incorrect. Here are my settings: IMAP SERVER: imap.mail.yahoo.com SECURITY: None AUTHEN...TYPE: PLAIN PORT: 143 I do have WIFI turned off

Can anyone help me? Thanks

Try this?

Go to manual setup > IMAP account and change to these settings....

INCOMING
Imap server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
port - 143
security type - TLS (if available)

OUTGOING
SMTP Server- smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
port - 25
security type - TLS (if available)

I'm using no security type (none) on mine and it's working fairly fine.

These settings are correct, make sure you are using your whole username like joe@yahoo.com not just joe.

your smtp settings should be smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
Port 587

Is there any way to get K9 NOT to poll? ie. I wanted to get it set up, but I don't want it checking (and draining my battery).

Connecting to an IMAP server running on a home machine, and only looking at INBOX.

I want it set up to check only when I ask it to check.

Menu/More/Account Settings/Folder Poll Check Frequency/never

I think that will do it. I've never used it, but that sounds right.

Thank you all for helping me to get K9 working on my Droid. Now can someone help regarding selecting emails? my far left side has a small green box, I can not see the whole square. Therefore, I can not check (select) individual messages. I can Menu > Batch Op > Select All then I see the whole box. I can then deselect. But sometimes I would prefer to go down my Inbox and just select individual messages.

Any ideas

One would think that would do it.. I agree.. and yet I keep having new emails show up on the phone ?!?!?

And yes, I did just double check.. Poll freq is set to "never".... I'm stumped. I really don't want to delete it, I just want it to work only when I ask it to check.

Actually, you can select them with just the thin line showing - you simply touch the line/box and swipe it to the right.

But, if you'd like to see the boxes all the time, go to the Accounts screen, and select "Settings". Under "Message Lists" put a check next to "Multi-select checkboxes".

How about creating a folder and moving that email. When reading. The msg more. Then choose move. I got an error message but it did work. Also check out When I delete a message under account setting. Good luck
I guess I'm more dense than I thought because I can't even figure out how to create a folder. Where is that oprion?

I also don't see an option to "Move" when reading a message.

Use the desktop and make a folder as you normally would. I use Yahoo and created a folder there. Next back on the phone Menu > Folder List > Refresh Folders. This only worked for me on 3G and NOT WIFI. Now I can see the new folder. Next open the message MENU > More > Move (there is also Add Star, Forward and Copy) next is the Folder list and choose the folder. Good Luck. Let me know if it works. And don't worry there is no one more desnse than me.
