No you cannot update via Bluetooth, however so that we can provide you further assistance in getting this working, can you tell me if the handset powers back on when you connect it to the PC? The most common reason for failure at this point is when you connect it to the PC before holding the back button down causing the phone to power on which prevents the update for continuing.

About the drivers....

You could try this, it has worked for me in the past, but from what you have said, there's a chance this may not work, wont hurt to try it tho...

First of all, switch on your X10 and connect it via USB to your computer!

Now follow the instructions below for the OS you have...

FOR WINDOWS XP

  1. Click on Start and then Control Panel.
  2. Click on the Performance and Maintenance link.
Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, you won't see this link. Simple double-click on the System icon and proceed to Step 4.
  3. In the Performance and Maintenance window, click on the System icon near the bottom of the window.
  4. In the System Properties window, click on the Hardware tab.
  5. With the Hardware tab selected, click on the Device Manager button.
FOR WINDOWS VISTA & WINDOWS 7

  1. Click Start
  2. Type device manager then press enter
When you have device manager up, look for an icon like this
bang.gif

If you see one right click on it and uninstall. When it is removed, disconnect the X10, wait 10 seconds and re-connect.

If you do not see the icon, look for SEMC Mass Storage USB Device under disk drives.

If SEMC Mass Storage USB Deviceisn't there, and there was no yellow icon, then the phone is faulty, or you could wriggle the mini usb end about to see if it connects

Sorry if I was no help, but that's the best I can do to help

here is the link i found posted earlier this year

again sorry for the late reply ialready have java installed and uptodate still the same poblem and i cant send it back to '3' the company i brought the phone from as i no longer have a contract whith them. please reply.

Does the USB connect to the laptop/computer now? Can you connect it does does it still not detect?

Does it charge off the computer/laptop?

Try to Right Click on PC Companion and chose Run as Administrator and go through the steps to upgrade or repair your xperia.

Actually...make sure you are logged in as Administrator on the computer. Hopefully that's not why the device didn't detect before.
