Hi guys,

I'm facing the same problem, when the phone goes to sleep it doesn't come back up, when I try to call it, it just doesn't respond and appears to be ringing on the caller's side, I just hold the power button till it restarts but then the keyboard doesn't flip horizontally while typing, so I have to reboot it one more time to fix the problem :S

I was using WiFi manager, but the phone was going to sleep as usual (I didn't realized that this was part of the problem), anyways after reading your thread I modified the WiFi seeping mode and waiting to check what would happen!

so my current plan is just "wait & c"
Thankx

Hi guys,
I've tried to "NEVER" disable WiFi, but the porblem is still occurring (even when "use packet data" option is disabled.
I found another thread http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-ace/312084-randomly-turning-off-4.html, they suggested some other solutions that I'll give a try.

OK, OK....

I am an electronic technician (amongst other things :)

And I have a Sammy GIO that occasionally gets the SOD (sometimes not for 3 weeks at a time) I use Wifi all the time. The situations seem to vary, but I can give you guys a good idea what it most likely is:

I think it may be the battery temp- cut-out, when the battery is under load, it may cut-out as a safety measure to stop it exploding and burning ur leg with it's acidic contents. Other ppl have said battery contacts (ie; clean and service the contacts on battery and phone as they may loose contact when moved suddenly) This doesn't really work for me as I have never had the SOD whilst using the shake feature, I guess it could expand/shrink under load, but the issue is more likely to be a memory or CPU temp cut-out than it is contacts. The issue occurs across all Galaxy model phones AFAIK

FORGET WIFI! One of the first things I did was to mess with the Wifi (alot, as I'm also a network engineer) and observed NO correlation between Wifi and SOD Except: Perhaps the Wifi increases the demand on the battery. With my phone, it almost ONLY OCCURS WITH GPS ON! and often if GPS and Wifi is on, I've had it during a phone call recently also. I will concede that it could also be SW/FW related. Perhaps the PH goes into screen-off mode and gets over-loaded and then basically force closes the background service/activity needed to recover with the 'on resume' or whatever (Im new to Andriod/Java) Someone could test this using a sleep-lock (An app that prevent5s the ph sleeping, many apps have this feature, I have never had the issue whilst using apps in this manner (so far)

Everyone needs to put pleasure on Samsung! It;s their job to fix it, their behavior is beginning to suggest to me that perhaps they do know what is causing it and pretend it doesn't exist, as it is a design flaw and might be a battery cut-out to prevent explosion (possibly death) and they dont wont ppl to know cause they might start hot-wiring/overriding the battery to stay on and finding out the hard way... There are plenty of threads on this around, you would think this would have been addressed by Now!!!!!

Keep searching and pls post any fixes/info you find!

Interesting post, but I have two questions for you:

-If it was a battery loading problem then why the phone doesn't get SODs while the WiFi is always enabled and prevented from going to sleep? (this increases the battery pressure)

-Is the battery hot when you remove it after an SOD?

This is really weird. But, when everything failed for me, I just changed the default Sky wallpaper to the black dotted wallper (last in the wallpaer list) which I believe the lighter most in the list, and it amazed me that it was the heavy wallpaper image which could not brings up the phone screen on and put the phone into SOD.

I am also related to graphics, so I know how a heavier file could make things slower, and I got the idea when i watched closely the screen, when I press the home button to activate phone, I see noticeable movement in the default background image, so I switched for a lighter one and it just worked for me! By the way its been more than 24 hours now that my phone didn't froze and I used all multimedia applications, youtube, GPS, etc.. and nothing went wrong with my phone and I am also feeling it lighter/faster than before.

Please let me know if its only me or anyone else also found this tip useful!

Thanks.

Hi.. this is my first post ever anywhere on net... The only reason i created my login etc was to be able to end the agony of so many android users (esp on SS galaxy ace). The feeling that "my" phone can anytime sleep to death is terrible and insecure.

Well after doing so many hits and trial there is a solution. TRUST ME.. no need to do anything.. installing juice defender, wifi manager, changing wall papers, changing wifi sleep policy.. its all crap.
Just update the software to Android 2.3.4
These guys have sorted out SOD issue in the latest software
Use samsung kies to do it.. it would be more secure and easy. (No chance of bricking ur phone and completely legit)
Samsung made available this software for update this month 1st week only. Connect internet, connect phone, open kies. It will automatically recommend firware upgrade. Rest all is self explanatory.
So go ahead and enjoy:D

So, for how long have you already had the version 2.3.4 installed on your phone and how long ago was your last SOD?

Hi,
I got the same problem.

My device is:
PDA: S5830JHKC5
Phone: S5830XXB1
Build: FROYO.JHKC5
ANDROID 2.2.1

I tried to look for a version that match my PDA (Kies does not offer an update)
Where and which Rom/PDA should I install?
Thanks

Hi
Make sure kies is updated..latest vesion as kies on date is 2.0.3.11082_152.
If it is not as above, go to help and check for updates.
When mobile is showing connected thru kies, click on GT-S5830 on left panel and click on Basic information on right horizontal panel.
There it will show to you current firmware version and latest firmware version.
Latest firmware as on today made available my Samsung is PDA: KQ5 / PHONE: KQ5 / CSC: KQ5 (INU)

OR.. if it is too much hassles.. simply go to samsung care centre and ask for update firmware to android 2.3.4

So, for how long have you already had the version 2.3.4 installed on your phone and how long ago was your last SOD?

Its been more than 3 weeks for constant connection with Wifi and no SOD.
Last SOD was just four hours before i upgraded and FYI it used to happen every 5 or 6 hrs.

The firmware upgrade also enhanced battery life drastically. (i would say clearly 25 to 30% life increase). Also the application drop (not responding) is not there in this version.
I wonder why SS launch with old android version with so many issues.

As all of the above. Its becoming a real pain in the ass.
Started with Froyo and i used to get the SOD(hold button for 10 sec remedy)from the second day i qwned it.Been waiting for this update to gingerbread 2.3.5.downloaded Kies no probs connected and ran the new firmware not a hitch. Its installed and working runs much better, faster, crisper graphics.Thought everything was ok until i noticed my wi fi was on but disconnected so i reconnected.10 minutes later i noticed the phone reeboot itself while sitting there on charge, agin the wifi says its on but no connection.Ive tried the *#*#526#*#*worked but does not solve it.Never sleep setting.Ive tried every wifi app and nothing stops the reboot every 10 minutes or so.The only time it doesnt reboot is if i leave my wifi off.So the assumption is that the issue is wifi related hardware?software? if it was software then the 2.3.5 release should have sorted it but hasnt.
Not good,so not impressed with my first Samsung

I have ACE with 2.3.3 and didn't want to update to 2.3.4 or higher and just used the bellow suggestion
So go to Setting->Wirelss and Network->Wi-Fi setting->Advanced (edit button) -> Wi-Fi sleep policy -> Choose "Never"

and it worked for me (one day so far)

It is the Wi-Fi sleep policy that is causing the phone to go into shutdown. The sleep policy suppose to switch back to mobile data (3G) when screen lock so as to conserve power.

So go to Setting->Wirelss and Network->Wi-Fi setting->Advanced (edit button) -> Wi-Fi sleep policy -> Choose "Never"

Or switch off Wi-Fi if you don't need at all if you have a 12GB data plan.

It works for me now, no more "deep" sleep mode for me.

Hope this helps!
