Root Need Help With Splash

For many of you, this is an easy thing but I sadly forgot.

I got a splash .zip that I'd like to add to my Evo but I admittedly forgot how to add it lol so can anyone just give me a brief step by step?

I'm confused mostly because I can't remember if it was in HBOOT or Recovery that I add it.

I tried flashing it in Recovery and it gave me a fail message.

When I tried in HBOOT, it didn't recognize it and when I change the .zip name to PC36IMG.zip it still didn't correctly recognize it.

All I know is it needs to be a PC34IMG file.

Davry( i know i spelled that wrong but its close sorry DaV:eek:)has made a few and hopefully he will see this and give you some step by step instructions. Also I would search XDA I know theres instructions over there

Are you sure a PC34IMG file? Like the number 34? I know that the reason we call files for the HBOOT, 36 is because that is a specific model number for the HTC Evo 4G phone.

I am running the latest MIUI ROM and am also wondering if it is possible to change the boot screen like where it starts up AFTER the HTC Evo 4G black and white screen. For MIUI, it has the MIUI and a globe and does that for a quite a while. So my question is, can I change this too so it looks different?

EDIT: Also got the file working, thank you! I have a new splash screen. I think I may have had two different .zip files within each other or something.

you should be able to change the boot animation....i've never tried it on MIUI...but just use Root Explorer and search for bootanimation and you'll know what folder the zip file is in...

Great, thanks! I'll search that and see what I find. How would I get a different boot animation to be displayed though?

head on over to xda to get some or you can try out big D's bootanimations:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/411684-custom-boot-animations.html

here is one from xda that is pretty good:
3d Minions boot animations, Android vs Apple, Kung Fu Panda, GW3, MW and much more! - xda-developers

all you need to do is like darayvn said,
1.use root explorer to search for the file name bootanimation.
2.once you find it on the system partition you just rename it(i just put a "1" in the name) or you can delete it.
3.and then replace it with the bootanimation you want, but it needs to be renamed to exactly as the previous file.
4. reboot and you are good to go.

Sounds easy enough, thanks ocnbrze!

If anyone is wondering...
1. bootanimation file is located in system/bin
2. another bootanimation .zip file is located in system/media

But now my question is...which bootanimation file is it? The search found two bootanimation files. One is a .zip and the other is another file type...I'm guessing it's the .zip file you are referring to since the replacement is a .zip as well but I'm unsure.

Also, when I try to rename either file, it says that it is unable to do so because the files are read only files.

you want the zip file. the other is most likely a script file. and media is a fairly common place that devs put the file into.

Nevermind! I found the switch for R/O-R/W. Thanks for the help! I'm rebooting to see how it looks now.

For anyone wondering...there is a grayish-white button at the top of the screen that says "R/O" which means "Read Only", click this and it will change to "R/W" which will enable read/write mode.

My new boot screen is absolutely beautiful!! Thank you all for the help. The splash screen looks great too. I'm really happy with this boot because it's quicker too and much more cool. Thank you! I went ahead and got the Gears of War one with smoke. It looks amazing.

Alright, thanks! How do I rename it? It says it can't be renamed since it is read only.

you need to switch permission to read and write. if you are using root explorer then at the top in the middle it should say mount r/o, select it so that it says mount r/w. after that you should be able to make changes to the system partitions.
