A Little Dissapointed (X8 - 2.1)

I am new to the forum and just wanted to vent my dissapointment at the limitations of the SE X8 and it's foibles! Firstly I am a seasoned user of mobile technology and work for a UK mobile network but have never really researched the Android OS in too much detail.

After switching from the iPhone 3GS (iOS4) i have to say i am well impressed with the OS in principle but it lacks a certain amount of basic requirements, such as install to SD card and more than 3-5 home screens. I am aware of the latest updates to android like froyo etc but I would have thought that 2.1 would have had at least these features without having to root!

I haven't had the hands on user experience of the later OS after Eclair but, I am most definately going to switch to a high end Android when my contract is up for renewal! ;)

Android 2.1 seems to be ancient by now. Android phones had a tiny market share in 2009, but it has the biggest smart phone market share now. In other words, Android is improving fast, and the shortcomings that you pointed out had been addressed already.

I think my Galaxy tab from a year ago has Android 2.2, and it does have 5 screens.

Now the new phones have Android 3.

Well for starters, a low end and rather outdated to a certain extent device like an x8 wouldnt really be able to hold its own when compared to an iPhone. The best bet against a 3GS would have been something like the HTC Desire.

For upgrading, I would suggest waiting till late Fall at least, as by that time all the new flagships would have been released. One to look out for is the HTC Vigor/Sensation XE. As of the moment, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is considered the standard against which all others are measured.

Now the new phones have Android 3.

Android 3.0 is for tablets only. Phones cant run that. Android 4.0 is the unified tablet+phone OS.

Well, that does explain a question that I had in mind. I had been wondering why Samsung note has only Android 2.3 while Samsung 7.7 has Android 3.x.

But on the other hand, I believe Samsung 7.7 is also a full functioning phone, just like the original Samsung Galaxy Tab.
