Long time iPhone user thinking of going to the HTC Red Inspire on AT&T and I have some questions.

Do I have to have a Gmail account, or can I use another email account?

Does the Inspire lock up often like some of the other Android phones on the market. Also does it get good battery life?

Do they come with Froyo 2.2 and if so is it easy to install Gingerbread 2.3 and how well does it work.

Not leaving AT&T but just curious because I have always liked HTC phones, or should I look at the Motorola Atrix? However I think the Atrix and Inspire are due to be replaced shortly, and I can get an Inspire for Free if I renew my AT&T 2 Year contract, which is ok by my, not leaving AT&T, so please do not offer advice on a Sprint or Verizon Android phone.

All android phones will require you to log in to a gmail account. If you don't have one now you can create one while setting up the phone

I haven't had any lock up issues. I have 3 inspires and don't think i can recall any locking up.

Battery life could be better but i have learned to accept it. I have a spare htc battery just in case but also a car charger and extra wall charger.

This is a good question. I thought someone here (or maybe another forum) did a warranty exchange on theirs and the replacement came with gingerbread already installed. So it might be a 50/50 shot of it being froyo or gingerbread preinstalled. Updating it took me 10 minutes per phone. Make sure you are on wifi. Menu-settings-scroll down to update tab-htc wifi update.

There are some complaints about the gingerbread update I would google those and see if it's something you can deal with. I personally haven't had issues with the update but others aren't thrilled with it.

I personally don't like the screen on the atrix and think it feels cheap and plasticy. I like the metal body of the inspire feels solid. The dual core of the atrix is appealing but i don't think there is too much out right now that will use that dual core.

Your phone sets with a gmail account, but you can set other accounts on the Mail App.

No idea about that lock up.

I got my Inspire with Froyo (used on amazon) and the next day came out the update. Its a very short and simple step and I believe its worth it.

When deciding to buy an Android, my budget left me with two options: Inspire and Atrix. After several video reviews on youtube and forums, I decided the Inspire because of its metal body. Never had an Atrix on my hands, but I dont regret of my decision.
