for the life of me, i cannot get this rom to install. i started off using this guide, but after booting into CWM recovery, i never got an option for wipe cache partition or any of the steps following that.

then i tried starting over and working with this one, and eventually ran into the same problem, which seems to be that i dont have a red recovery screen. my current one is blue. please can anyone help me, this is driving me crazy

In the blue recovery you should have an option to reinstall packages. You need to do that one twice. Then reboot and you will have a green or red screen with the options you need. Mine is green now.

edit: it might change color after reinstalling packages I can't remember exactly if it doesn't try rebooting and doing it again.

when i select 'reinstall packages', i get a string of messages:

Finding/opening/verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole file signature
E:Signature verification failed
Installation aborted

edit: is it possible that my update package is sitting in the wrong place? currently its at /mnt/sdcard/clockworkmod

You need clockworkmod to have this recovery lol. Install ClockworkMod Recovery On Samsung Infuse 4G [How To] EDIT: sorry did not see you had that already said. Go to that website and look for the modded 3e recovery i am not sure you need that though, maybe you may not even have clockworkmod installed without this.

should i delete the original 'recovery' file in /system/bin?

EDIT: No, no i should not have. now i'm stuck at boot screen. time to fix this

Might have to derail the topic for a second as im stuck in a bootloop and cannot make it to the CWM recovery screen. anyone have any tips for getting through odin faster? im working with this guide

im also trying to download kies from the samsung support site, but they dont seem to have it for the sgh-1997, all i get is user manuals.
now when i try to boot it up, i get stuck at an empty battery screen

why do i fail so hard at rooting?

look at the last link of my last post. Odin to stock with root and 3e recovery by odin. Pretty simple really just follow the directions.
You are both a scholar and a gentleman. however, when my phone finally does start up, launcherpro force closes in a loop. should i just wipe my phone and start fresh to make this all easier?

looks like thats what im doing, cant get past my lock screen without a stream of force closes

started fresh, and so far have rooted, and put recovery into system/bin. im back at the point where if i go to the recovery screen, i still get the blue one.

I think that happens when data was restored. Always better to start clean. I think you have to go into recovery and wipe cache. Then reboot. See if that helps.

Warning! You will lose all your settings, contacts, and data though but probably the only way to stop the force closes.

If that doesn't work you have to wipe data/factory reset. Hopefully your apps and contacts are backed up. If using titanium backup restore missing apps with data only.

I am not an dev or expert. I have just been down this road a many a time.

EDIT: Maybe try to backup before you try this.

on the blue recovery try reinstalling packages twice and reboot.

ive tried that a few times, i get a message:

E: can't open /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip

when i go through my file browser, there is no /mnt/internal_sd/ directory.

it still brings me back to the same blue recovery screen every time

has anyone tried using the 'install rom from sd card' option on the CWM app screen?

Okay I gtg unbrick to stock. wipe data and cache. superoneclick to root. download titanium backup. ran it. followed video exactly. opened rom manager booted to recovery blue. reinstall package. failed. reinstall package went straight to green cwm recovery 2.5.1.2 rebooted. it still there.

Sorry I don't know how to help you any more. You might try flashing a rom that already has cwm recovery like gtg's infused 2.3.3

thanks for all your help man, whats holding me back is that i cannot access my internal sd card, which is where all the errors seem to be stemming from. this is so incredibly frustrating

did you change the permissions?
yup, back and forth
