Watch Movies on Droid?

Also, here is my rule of thumb.

If you want everything to work fine for you, and all devices to work well together, just get a Macintosh computer, phone, and ipod. The only thing is, they will be telling you exactly what you can do with the equipment. You just have to remember to get the whole set. Apple only likes to talk to Apple (they can to others, but it's tricky at times and can be a hassle). I'm not saying anyone who goes that route is stupid, or dumber, I just believe that you need to know what bandwidth you have for your phone. Is it a gadget (ooh let's play with this button!) or is it a piece of hardware that makes calls and relieves you of boredom randomly? :)

You want flexibility, customization, and free reign? Go Android. You might have to do a little more work, but you can get things to work well for you. I still have an OG Droid, running Android 2.3.7 CM 7.1 and it is moving fast and smoothly. I can even stream Netflix!

Have you tried QQ Player?
It works for AVI just fine. The only problems I have had is usually with OGG, MKV, etc. And if you are playing with those formats, you shouldn't mind converting them :p

Just tried this app, and it works great. It would even play some movies (mp4 format) that the stock video player and DoubleTwist would not...

Awesome.. I'll download it tonight.

Trying to get a few movies on the Droid before my 4 hour flight tomorrow.

I wanted to watch a movie on my most recent flight but I apparently don' t have it all figured out yet. I rented a movie, downloaded to my email an d then tried to play it. I switched my phone to airplane mode. Then ofcourse was unable to get a signal to view. I am completely new to this so keeping the instructions easy would be great. Thank you.

I'm late to this party, but I'm going to post anyway & hopefully it can help someone else. In general to rip and convert video to play on mobile devices you need to do some research...learn about conversion rates, file extension types, etc. The more you learn the better off you'll be. I'm by no means a master, but what I have learned, I did by just googling A LOT. But without rambling further, here is my method (note: there are probably THOUSANDS of ways to do this, so find what works for you).

1. Download DVD Decrypter (an oldie but a goodie). Read the FAQ's to figure out how to use. Not too difficult. Hint: for ripping individual episodes you'll be using the IFO mode.

**After doing this, I used to use RKVideoConverter, but it has ads & is worrisome since it runs from the internet, I think. You can look it up & try it out for yourself. There are some advantages of using it. It is fairly easy to use & it is designed to convert to Ipod compatible format & will automatically import into iTunes, if you're into that. I have all of my purchased DVD tv shows in iTunes, it has a nice user interface IMHO.**

2. Okay, sorry for getting sidetracked. Since the time I used RK, I have tried numerous other converters...some easier to use than others...I got tired of downloading a bunch of different programs to my PC that all basically did the same thing. I finally buckled & paid for some software.

I am now using NCH Software's Prism Media Converter Plus. I'm not a salesman, just telling you what I use. Try it out if you want after all your research and see if you like it, of course they offer a free trial. It's easy to use, you can convert multiple files at the same time and it does give you a lot of options for conversion if you are a bit more advanced.

Once it converts a file into a mobile compatible file, you are all set. Just drag & drop anywhere you want and it should play on most anything you have.

So to recap: DVD Decrypter--decrypts dvd files into useable .VOB files, then you need to convert .VOB files into a format playable on mobile devices, like .MP4, etc. Using a video converter like Prism Media Converter or RKVideoConverter.

I know it sounds vague, but if you look those programs up and read the FAQ's and do a little studying, you'll be watching your shows on anything you want.

I for instance, am now watching my Futurama DVD episodes on my Droid Razr MAXX, that I just converted a few hours ago.
