Help Reception/Antenna issue

I am up for a 2yr renewal and I am considering Dinc2.
The only thing that holds me back is that I heard that the reception/antenna on this phone is not the greatest.
Has this issue been addressed or fixed?

Peter

I have never had much of a problem with the reception on this phone. However, I too have read that some people have had issues with it. I do know that the most recent OTA (2.3.4) has a new baseband that seems to increase the signal strength.

Now, the one problem I have with it as an actual phone is the BT. The BT radio seems somewhat weak as I only have to walk about 20-25 feet away before it disconnects. My OG Droid would stay connected for probably 100 feet or so. I could literally leave my phone in my living room and wal to my car on the street (~100 feet away) and still be connected.

Otherwise, I absolutely love this phone and strongly suggest it if you are not ready to give up your unlimited data for 4g (assuming you were grandfathered in).

Kratos is absoutly wrong about a new basedband. Here is a link to the verizon forums where they recently chimed in (page 6) with an update though not much of an update..

There is a link in his/her post that shows what features the updated included..

I could have sworn that I read that the 2.3.4 included a new baseband that fixed the reception issues. But, I may have misread or even been misinformed. Sorry about the incorrect info. It does seem that something was tweaked to make the reception much better for many people though. So, without a new baseband, I can only wonder what was done.

Any way. This topic is not about who is right or wrong, but instead about what everyone is experiencing with the reception of this phone. So, please continue.

I live in los Angeles and I have had poor reception with Verizon in two places more than anything : my gym, which is 3 floors underground Andre my work, which isn't underground but has an upstairs office with the breakroom being under that, my signal is 0 bars and 1x at both places with days of random full bars and 3g or just 0 bars no internet to 1x and half a bar or no bars....

This has been the same case with both my Droid x and my dinc 2

Now, why is it that all my friends with iphones on at&t get full bars!?!?!?!? At these very same locations standing next to each other :/

I forgot to ask 2 things
Is it true that the antenna is partially connected with the
Back cover and if so, I got an extended battery by Verizon, have I further crippled my signal by switching back lids!?!?!?!? Since my extended battery requires 1

Also, can a problem like weak signals really be fixed with updates?

Verizon swears they have a better network than at&t and when I've called to talk about my signal issue they always say how its so strange I'm experiencing that because there's towers all around me...

The official release notes do not show an updated radio, but it's in there.

It still amazes that no company has stepped up & made an aftermarket battery door that improves reception for this phone model ADR6350.

I notice how the signal strength bars on this phone fluctuate like no other cellular device I have had, jumping and dropping drastically for no apparent reason.
I don't trust the bars, the network signal strength measured in dbm is accurate of what is happening, I have had no bars (without the x) and my phone ring & and I am able to answer and talk on it...

I know if someone put one out, I would buy one. To at least, try/test it out.

There is a thread on the XDA forum about people gluing some pieces of wire
in the inside of the battery cover to make more bars. Some see improvements.
Peter

Yeah, I was following that one for a while.
I didn't get the impression there was any real substantial improvement. Those that claimed huge improvements usually wouldn't tell of their design or post pics, and those that did didn't have anyone else able to reproduce the same results.
I would purchase one that someone had put the research and money into designing, producing and marketing, but taping speaker wire to my battery door lacks the scientific basis to make it worth my time.;)

I HAVE HAD THE DINC2 SINCE IT CAME OUT AND THE SIGNAL STRENGTH HAS BEEN HORRIBLE FROM THE BEGINNING. I CAN BE NEXT TO SOMEONE WITH A MOTO DROID AND I WILL HAVE 1 BAR WHILE THEY HAVE 3 BARS. IT IS SO FRUSTRATING. I CONTACTED HTC AND THEY SAID TO DELETE ALL MY APPS ON THE PHONE AND SEE IF THAT HELPS. I SAID WHY HAVE THIS Fing PHONE IF I CAN'T HAVE APPS ON IT. THEN THEY SAID TO FACTORY RESET THE PHONE AND THAT DID NOT WORK. I JUST WANT THEM TO FIX IT OR GIVE ME A DIFFERENT PHONE ALREADY. OF COURSE I'M STUCK IN 2 YR. CONTRACT.

After reading through much of this post, i'vedone some playing around with my dinc2.
My avg signal at home is -100dbm+ with rare -90dbm's.... with or without mybody glove case on it.

One person post about the antenna in the cover, and another about a battery pull that helped theirs...

This is what i found...

The covers are "baked" with the antenna in them therefore corroding the contacts that the back connects to the phone flexible contacts(4 points).

This is what i did to increase my signal gain to -90dbm consistently in my remote area:
1. Removed cover and cleand brass antenna tips that are exposed in the cover with a womans nail file.
2. On the back of the phone there were 4 flexible contacts that i pried up ever so slightly with the tip of the ladies nail file.

Of course replace the cover, boot itand check your signals via settings>about phone>network signal
-100dbm bad, -80dbm fair and -60dbm good....

Hope this helps other dinc2 users. I'm going to pull my cover againan use a toothpick toapply some electrical contactgrease to to the tips to prevent corrosion when i get to town to pick some up.. Will post back if there are any other significant gains.
