***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Obviously we already have seen the ICS Statue video, but I had not seen the quote from Larry Page, and that makes me feel MUCH better after hearing the possible issues between Verizon and Google over the NFC app.

Android ICS is 'gangbusters,' statue unveiled - AfterDawn

I can actually leave the house for a while now without be afraid VZW is going to screw it up again and lose this phone. Whew!

Also, there is a link about Amazon bringing back the 1 cent Verizon Smartphone promotion that's kinda cool, if you need to get another phone for your kid or anyone in your family that doesn't want the Galaxasourus Nex.

I am going out to watch LSU beat up on my beloved Vols.

So two thousand posts about which processor was OK, but a hundred about the screen was too much??? :D

Actually, I PM'd a few participants if they'd be ok about making that into a separate thread as well.

The few I sampled agreed wholeheartedly, but by that time, the discussion was dying down (I was new to the thread then, yes, and everyone was keeping the other mods busy) and everyone was pumped about thread statistics so I let it slide.

As I mentioned in http://androidforums.com/nexus-prime/429660-nexus-screen-tech-pentile-dpi-samoled.html, it's best to build tech threads that will survive this pre-launch thread. Those will endure and help newcomers to the Nexus understand and discuss various tech nuances throughout the life of the phone.

I think we can let the sleeping dogs lie because the processor chats included not only wonderful tech but a lot of chit-chat on which would really be used.

In future, if and when we do spin off a processor thread, ok to freely PM me and request posts from here get to automagically transported to there. ;) :)

As is typical in the real world - tech tends to work the night shifts, so tech posts on the night shift.

Nothing wrong with multiple threads to reflect this - it's not like we didn't give you a whole forum for the phone, so - you know. :) ;) ;) :)

(Am I using enough smileys for you cats? I can't tell, each group is kinda different that way. :p)

PS - 55. I moved 55 since last night. To move more would've broken the 9k marker and I just didn't want the insurrection on my hands. :D

Quick question hoping someone here can help me with since you have all sucked me in and now I'm an addict for this phone...

I typically get a new phone every year and sell the old one on ebay. My thunderbolt will be the first that is LTE with the SIM card. How does that work? Do I include the SIM card with the phone or is it up to the buyer to get a SIM card?

Thanks EarlyMon.

There's one other issue regarding a comparison of those topics. Some of them discussed aspects of the SoC that we can't compare until they're out, so they were speculative.

Both RGB and PenTile screens are already out, and we can debate them to death, but the end result of either isn't going to change with the release of a new phone. It would be like arguing over whether you prefer Coke or Pepsi while we await the arrival of a new Sprite formula.

We know that, from what Samsung has said, the new Nexus will have a 720p AMOLED-based PenTile display. There's nothing to debate there except your personal preference of that display, which is best said in a separate thread. We don't know for an absolute fact what SOC will be in the phone, so there was (and somewhat still is) a debate over the benefits of each potential SOC.

Anyway, that was my poor attempt at rationalization.

weird... i didn't receive any PM from you about processor/GPU/SoC-comments... though ~50% of CPU & GPU-posts are mine :D

edit: i still hope the GSM-NP comes with either the exynos 4212 or the OMAP 4470...

Ps: you see that i'm ne nr #01 in CPu/GPU-comments? :p

Nothing weird about it. I picked some people at random, thought I said that, my bad, I guess I didn't. Random doesn't mean stop and evaluate post count or quality.

For today's move, I consulted no one.

We value each and every one of our 700k + members, including you.

Please try to understand that I am trying to manage a lot of forums and more threads. All mods are.

While we impatiently await enlightenment to the speculated specs, I thought I would ask a truly dumb question. If the Holy Grail GNex has no SDCard support, and the camera is only 5MB, how might this affect resell two years from now? Practically everything else from this 2011 period has better specs for these two items. I may be I’m trying to look into a crystal ball and predict the future, but a few knowledgeable, or even wild guesses would really help this novice old guy get off the fence. I promise not to come back and look you up two years from now, if you prove responsible for leading me astray. :D If this has been previously answered I apologize in advance.

Very little, I would think. Nexus devices are Nexus devices, and if this is a true Nexus it will be so well supported in the Dev community that those things will not matter. Nexus S still sells for about $300, and it does not have an SD slot. I would wager that the majority of people here do not actually need an SD slot. Although the swap-ability is nice, how often do people honestly take out the SD? I understand the need for extra storage, but if it is 32 GB I think the majority of the people will not need more.

As for the camera, I think that is a non-issue. Once it comes out and people know it is good (the camera may change initial sales, but IMO not second hand sales) they will accept that it is good regardless of the MP.

On a random note, why the size, font and color tags? A bit unnecessary, no? Honestly, it just makes the whole forum harder to read because of the discontinuity with all the other posts. And your color tags are color=black...so...why? And you have two of them. Not trying to pick on you, just really perplexed.

should've sold it on Craigslist or eBay for more :/

Welp, ladies and germs? I did it. I filled out my Verizon Smartphone buyback form for them to buy back my phone. I'm getting 65 for the DX and I'm hoping to convince a loyalty person to give me an early 50 loyalty discount. I'm hoping to buy the phone for 189 ish all told.

I guess I can send in my phone after I buy it and use the 65 for accessories, which I don't really need. I'll figure out the timing. Starting to get excited, here.

Anyone else having a problem where they can see page 186 but clicking it takes you back to 185, or is it just me?
If it's just me, I probably won't see your post, but...

This is a weird but well known issue, usually fixed by a browser cache clear.

I am on the phone - would somebuddy kindly PM TheRoosevelt on this?

That sounds exactly right. People shopping for a brand new one may be put off by a lower MP number, but those buying used will probably have already read reports of the quality of the pictures it takes.

The answer is probably "because it's there" -- forum profiles let you customize lots of things, so people do it. But I agree it's a little smoother to read vanilla text in forums (and non-HTML email).

No trouble here, but maybe your browser's cache was thrown off by all of the posts which were just moved to other threads and might've briefly affected the page count here.

Truly sorry, this novice will refrain in the future to avoid offending anyone.

As you hinted, the Holy Grail GNex phone (I like that!) has already built up a bit of a cult following before it's even shipped. So I'd guess it will have higher than usual resale, especially given the extra developer support anticipated by the other poster.

But... I don't think smartphones in general are much of a financial investment. The tech changes much too fast these days, and you're probably paying way more than the cost of a device in your monthly carrier payments anyway.

You keep your SIM card, remove it from the phone before selling it.
