Epic 4g Touch vs Iphone 4s

Just got my 4g touch about a week ago, i loved the phone since i've taken it out of the box, but i have been hearing a lot about loss of signal issues.

I have notice that i've been going in and out of service during calls here and there usually in places i'm not accustomed to having this happen. Maybe it's just in my head due to all the things i've been reading about the phone...

Anyway, what is everyones general consensus about this issue (regarding title post), obviously being in an android forum, i'm sure it's going to be a one sided debate. I just want to say that i've been using android phones since inception and just started becoming a rooted user since i've had my evo before this. I'm just wondering do you think these issues will be fixed? If not maybe i should get an iphone, i'm still in my trial period for the samsung epic 4g touch.

I don't want this to become a e4gt vs iphone war, but just a civilized discussion on whether or not i should stick with the e4gt.

I think that if you have to ask, you should probably get the iPhone. I wouldn't even think of getting an iPhone. There are clear, fundamental problems that are complete dealbreakers:

1) Tiny screen
2) Reliance on POS iTunes
3) No OTA file transfer
4) No software to play unconverted video files
5) No keyboards other than stock

BUT... if these aren't dealbreakers for you, then you should just get an iPhone.

I dont know if Sprint will get the Nexus prime untill next year. I honestly dont think that sprint will release too many more high end devices until next summer. Since they are building their LTE network now and its due to go live next summer, it is good timing for Sprint (and us) since summer is when they release most of their high end devices. This way kind of makes sense because it will allow Sprints future high end phones to be LTE. The timing is there. Just a thought...

Have you considered the Photon 4G? It's getting its 3rd or 4th software update in a week or less and it's a solid performer.

Don't want that "motoblur" ui. Played with it in store and felt a little slow, especially next to the Epic touch 4g.

And as regards to the Prime, I would love it if they released it with the LTE chip in it but not activated until they flip the LTE switch. I have a feeling it will be a verizon exclusive in the USA (at least CDMA) til at least Christmas.

I have my E4GT for 3 days and no LOS what so ever. I was at my dad's house last night and it went in and out of roaming a few times with no problem what so ever. So far the few issues I have with with phone are the battery life, long charging time, GPS takes a minute or 2 to lock on to satellites and the email program sometime refresh forever. 4G speed in down town Seattle is impressive. All those LOS posts on the internet scared the crap out of me when I was waiting for my E4GT to arrive. So far I am very happy with my purchase.

Hate to say it but if you were roaming, you experienced some loss of signal. With the roaming agreements that Sprint and Verizon have, it's not all that easy to have zero voice service but youre not using Sprint's signal. I believe roaming is detrimental to your battery and at the very least weak signal strength drains power significantly.

I was referring to the E4GT LOS problem, not just the lost of signal.

My signal has been just fine so far and I just had to make this choice the other day. I ended up choosing the Epic, why?

4G speeds
Hotspot capabilities
Voice guided Google navigation
Way bigger screen
Expandable and removable memory
Can add tons of launchers, themes, icon packs without jailbreaking/rooting
Gorilla Glass (iPhones will shatter if you drop them from a foot the wrong way)
Slingbox (It actually works on Android and on a way bigger screen)
Probably forgetting a few...

Gorilla Glass (iPhones will shatter if you drop them from a foot the wrong way)

are you sure that the SE4GT has Gorilla glass? I checked the site and they only show the SGS2 on GSM and when I checked the Samsung page it did not say anything about Gorilla Glass on it, but I am human and I could be wrong, but I don't think so... :D

well, if its not Gorilla Glass, it IS strong. I've dropped mine twice now, once from about 3 feet, another time from about 4.5 feet... both times without a case and onto concrete. after bouncing around, it ended up face down. The screen is still flawless. :)

It isn't Gorilla Glass, however it is very strong that much it is, still you have to be careful cause as I and others have found out it does get scratched easily.

I'm a Sprint employee and Epic 4G Touch ambassador. I've not had any call drop issues to date, having had my E4GT since 2 weeks before launch. I have read about this issue on this forum and one other forum; re: reported call drop issues. We are taking these reported issues to note and will be reporting them back to Samsung for review, and if validated fixed in the first MR release. No date yet for MR1 as we are still gathering feedback. If you have specific examples of signal dropout (by signal level not just "bars" of strength on top) send me a PM and I will pass the data along. Thanks.
