Do you use your EVO instead of your ipod?

I cant, 'bandies' get upset when I don't allow them to supplement reverb for talent.

I used to sell large venue loudspeakers for a living (Danley, L-Acoustics, etc) so I'm very picky :D.

I'm also a sound engineer and when mixing a band, frequently I'll get 'give me a skosh more volume in my monitor,' I simply touch the mixer (doing nothing) and they reply with 'perfect.' lol.

Truthfully though, I can tell a difference, I even occasionally have blind listening tests set up for me to make sure its not in my head...and it never is.

It doesn't take an expert ear to tell the EVO sound quality is less than acceptable, it just takes someone who isn't satisfied with laptop speakers playing YouTube music videos.

It may just be my headphones..which are just basic in ear buds, but the sound quality does not bug me.

I will have to wire it into my car stereo and see if that changes, but for now I am happy.

The sound difference in the ipod and the evo is not as easy to detect with just earphones or earbuds. It is very easy to detect when plugged into a car stereo or a larger speaker dock.

I have since become a paid Spotify subscriber and rarely use my iPod anymore. Battery issues are rarely a problem since when I listen to music I am usually plugged into my charger (home, car). I have used it off charger as well, and have gotten good play times as well as long as you shut off the screen when you don't need it.

I'm pretty sure Apple will offer a streaming version of iTunes in the future with iCloud on the horizon. One thing that would make it better than Spotify, MOG, Rhapsody, etc... would obviously be the option to purchase a track for a separate fee. None of the previously mentioned offer that. At that point the only one I see being able to offer a similar experience would be if Amazon copied the service since they could have a similar ecosystem set up.

I bought the iPod Touch probably less than a year before getting the Evo and I loved all the apps, but as soon as I bought the Evo the iPod was relegated to MP3 use only.

I travel all over the country and frequently there is "No Service" so I could never rely on Google or Pandora for music, but I sure do wish occasionally that I'd just stuck with my original 5th generation iPod instead of spending hundreds on the iPod Touch LOL

Since I installed PocketCast on my EVO 4G, I was finally able to ditch the iPod Touch entirely-- and it feels great to not be shackled to iTunes anymore! It manages both my audio & video podcasts perfectly, which was the last reason I still held onto my iPod Touch.

And I use the Amazon MP3 app to handle my music.

Recently got a 32GB SD card, a spare battery, and belt holster, and I don't need to carry two separate devices anymore.

I do. I used to have an iPod Touch a few years ago (2nd Gen) but gave it up for a Zune HD bahahaha and never use that thing either. Then when I moved to my first Android phone, the Samsung Moment, I never ever touched my Zune. And the Moment was a much much least favorable experience of Android so if I have the Evo now, you can guarantee that I don't use an iPod or any other MP3 player anymore.

The only thing i've noticed about "sound quality" on my EVO is that sometimes there's a tiny "hiccup" during playback, maybe once every 10 songs, and it's not on one song. I get the feeling it's related to my SD card issues. (It's a fault in my EVO, not the card - multiple issues and not fixed by replacing the card.)

The main thing is that i don't have to worry about iTunes, which i loathe with fiery passion. I gave my iPod Touch to my husband when i got my EVO. That way, he has a nice music player with some neat features, and i don't have to entirely live without the few games i like that aren't available for Droid.

While I use my EVO for music after losing my old iPod, I intend to get a new iPod. Either a classic for the 160 GB or a new touch. Only because I would have a larger music library and I can jailbreak the touch, make it look like an EVO/Sense OS and use it for music, a few movies and some apps exclusive to Apple.

I think my Sansa Clip (a US$30 item) sounds noticeably better than my EVO 4G when listening to FLAC. I have Kylin IEMs. In fact I am pretty sure it does, but I don't do level matching or blind or anything. I have forty years as a Hi-fi hobbyist. The funny thing is that the Clip remains buried in the bottom of the backpack. I will use it if I am in a remote area. I guess that sound quality with these devices is a case of "it is what it is". The camera in the EVO is good enough for me. I do wish they would try to improve the sound some, though.

Although it won't matter for me in the future if I change from the Evo, but I'm pretty sure the next iteration of the Evo will be rocking Beats by Dre since HTC is partners now. So I suspect sound quality should be a thing of the past soon enough.

Maybe I am just not an audiophile, but I think the sound quality is pretty damn good with decent ear buds.

Am I the only one here rocking the crap out of Spotify? I highly recommend it. Millions of songs at my beck and call, and 3g streaming is very good in the car. And I always make my favorites available for offline in case I hit a dead zone.

Seriously, check it out.

I'm almost there, almost ready to totally ditch the ipod. There are a few things that I'm still missing though. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm willing to try things out. I'd like ONE app that does ALL of the following:

1. Plays audiobooks in .m4b format, with automatic resume, etc. (I believe Astro Player does this)
2. Plays music from my Google Music account (like the Google Music app)
3. Downloads/plays podcasts (with resume feature) directly from the website where they are stored (like Google Listen)

I hear Double Twist can do much of this, but 1) I'd rather get my music from my Google Music account than from iTunes and 2) I don't know if it does resume on audiobooks.

Any suggestions?
