Or at least parts of it. I know our phones are little powerhouses but I think at some point the updates will be too much for them to handle in full. Just my opinion !

Google's software design philosophy has been to reduce the footprint needed to run their software, so it will run on the wide range of hardware as possible. With Linux's (on which android is based) natural scalibility, and low minimum hardware requirements I'd be shocked if it wouldn't run just fine on our phones, aside from driver/firmware issues. Especially since we have about the same specs as the last/first 2 Nexus phones, I'd be quite surprised if there was anything that wouldn't run great on the Incredible (again, ignoring driver issues).

And with any driver issues, things will probably work, they'd just be slow and possibly unstable.

I saw an article that HTC was going to push 4.0 to as many phones as possible including the Nexus 1. If this is the case, then the OG DInc should be able to handle the upgrade and I'll hold on to my phone just a little longer to help me decide what my next upgrade will be (HTC VIGOR?) Has anyone else seen or heard about this info? Chime in.

I doubt they would pull it in favor of 4.0. Ics on incredible is likely rom only.

Oh VZW support.... i got this from a friend today that i'd told a long time ago the incredible was getting the incredible update..

"did you ever get the Gingerbread update? I never did and my dad didn't either, and when he called Verizon they apparently had him read off a ton of numbers, then when everything checked out they said "good, we were making sure you're not rooted." Have I missed something as far as tracking rooted phones goes?"

nexus one is updated by google, not HTC. The thunderbolt will be lucky if it sees ICS.

Lol at this. Who would be rooted and then call Verizon to ask why they didn't get update?

Also, it doesn't matter to Verizon if you are root or not unless you are tethering (without paying) or trying for replacement because of something you did while rooted.

The only other reason Verizon might hate rooters is that they might hold on to phone longer.

As for update, why wouldn't they just tell the person that the update was pulled for now? I should call about my wife's phone to see if they try that to me! Lol.

Take it with a grain of salt, blah blah, but at least they still sorta respond via Twitter

@VZWSupport - Any reason why my Incredible never recevied the latest update of Gingerbread?

Sounds close to my last reply from them (Yesterday, 10/24):

"While we certainly understand the need for the most updated software, unfortunately at this time we have no information available other than our official release which reads as follows:

"It has come to the attention of Verizon Wireless and HTC that customers using the Droid Incredible by HTC have experienced a voicemail notification error with the recent software update. As a result, the update has been temporarily suspended while the companies work together to resolve the issue. Verizon Wireless and HTC anticipate the update being available soon; customers will be notified directly on their devices when it is ready for download."
"

Blah Blah. Christmas is coming soon too. So is the apocalypse...

I guess I'm an optimist, but judging by the frequency of the responses, I believe it may actually come in the near future. It's probably more or less ready to go.

I think they would look very very bad (or worse) in their customers' eyes if they don't at least give this a try. Especially because of their statement about evaluating ICS.

HTC should just save the time theyre spending on getting gingerbread on the incredible and resume work when ICS is ready.

By that logic, they'd never release any software whatsoever. The gingerbread SDK was released in early December, while OTA updates didn't start hitting phones till June (that's the date I found for the Droid X).
