FYI: Changing LED Notification Light color based on App - Light Flow

Hi Andrew - Seems that I'm not getting my repeating alerts anymore.. not for SMS or EMail or GMail.. I have noLED, but I've had that all along.. I;ve added a couple of apps - nothing much.. that keyring app, a QR Droid - bar code scanner, the dolphin browser.. I'm honestly not sure when it stopped working.. I had put some ringtones on my SD card - but I got rid of them and went back to the stock ones - b/c if I plugged my phone in to my computer and didn't remember to stop the connection to the sd card, they wouldn't work. Let me know if you have any ideas, and if this isn't the place for me to post, please just PM me. Thank you.

Could you try add the debug widget (long press on your home screen, select widget and light flow debugger) then see if the notifications that are not repeating show as being "On" when you expect the repeating.

Hi Andrew - Okay - I put the widget on my "desktop" and sent a SMS and didn't touch it. no repeating alert (although yetsreday, after I wrote the post, my alerts were repeating.. so it seems intermittent...) - So it says, 01:13:33 Accessibiltiy last accessed com.android.mms Last on 01:13... SMS, Last off 02:27:04... (now) EMAIL - No outstanding notifications.
I believe I have them set to go off on "screen" - not sure.. Also - I have that noLED app - but I've had that right along.. So I got the original SMS alert - but no repeat alerts.. and I have not gotten ANY emails to any accounts since 1:17.. Let me know your thoughts. I did power off today to change my battery - but a restart may have helped yesterday.. Just not sure.. Hope this helps..

Once again my repeast alert for SMS didn't work.. it is 18:08 here now and it says, 18:06 (I got a second txt after not responding to the first one!) last accessed. So now it's kind of messed up.. so the last on is now.. but the last off says 17:53 - which is probabyl when I got the first txt. - yup.. that's when I got the first one - 17:53.. no repeat though.. I have it set for 10 mins.. I will change i to 5..

This application works great on the Droid X and Droid X2. One thing that would make this application a bit better, albeit a bit unnecessary for most people probably, would be a notification such as a color roulette.

Blinking say Blue and Red in quick succession, as opposed to Blue or Red slowly blinking on their own would be fairly eye catching for me and allow me to distinguish between some of the many apps I have notifications for that I'd love to know are going off during a meeting, without actually having to fiddle with the phone during presentation times etc.

One of the main things, being able to set that for my pregnant wife is really useful. I'd not interrupt a presentation for a simple IM, Email, Voicemail, or even a missed call however, if it was blinking say Blue, Green, Red, Yellow and back again, quickly, with the option to tag that either to a keyword, contact, etc. Signifying, its from my pregnant wife, I'd gladly ask the team to hold on a moment, its an "emergency".

Hope the constructive feedback helps. Thanks for a wonderful app!

Hi Andrew, was my info from your debugging widget of any value? Should I uninstall / reinstall? My repeating alerts are not working.. Please let me know what you think I should try.. I want to possibly get a couple of other apps on my droid, but I don't want to introduce more ?? into the mix.
Also - for my "WISH" list - I would REALLY love to have different alerts for different email accounts!

Thanks - Maggie

Hi Andrew - just checking in... So my "missed call" alert/repeating alert works both with sound and on vibrate.. but the other alerts aren't working.. Should I have them turned off in the regular sounds, and just have them on for initial and repeat alert in your app? So far, I don't have Handcent or any other apps, but I'd like to get this app working.. Can you pm me or something?? Should I uninstall/reinstall or anything? Thanks much - Maggie

Actually, after a while of having this app and loving it, I had to uninstall it. It's a great app, dont get me wrong, but too many times the notification would blink after I had already responded to an IM.

There is nothing more annoying than having zero notifications on the phone but when you turn the screen off, the LED blinks as if you do have a notification. With no notifications, you don't even have an option to "clear" them so you're stuck with it blinking until you either reboot the phone or receive another IM.

Hi Andrew, I seem to have found that if I turn off my "noLED" app, the alerts repeat. This Samsung Charge has no LED on it.. and I have yet to get any "light" from your app, but I don't want it for "light" I want it for the repeating alerts.. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. With the no LED app enabled, one negative about that app is it doesn't flash the "led" on the screen unless the phone is "blacked out." However, if I get an alert, and the phone isn't blacked out, therefore getting no LED, I still don't get the repeating alerts. Would appreciate hearing from you and any advice you can give me. Thanks much..

Hi Andrew, just wondering if you have any thoughts on the app conflict on my phone. I have the samsung charge - it does have a flash, but I haven't gotten any lights at all to come from your app - but that's FINE.. I just want the repeating alerts.. but there seems to be a conflict with the noLED app that I am using to get "fake" LED's on the screen.
Thanks..

Which IM client are you using?

Hi
Sorry for the late reply, things a little crazy here! That's a little odd as I know I've had both apps running on my phone at the same time previously without any problems. If you add the light flow debug widget to your home screen does it show the notification type you want to repeat as being on or is it getting switched off?

Hi Andrew - I really need to talk to you.. I have posted some results from the debug before - but again - I sent an SMS, but never got the repeat alerts. Debug says, "Last on: 22:29:33552:SMS" "Last off: 22:49:365333:EMAIL" "No outstanding notifications"
I DO get repeat alerts for missed calls and maybe something else - but not for SMS or GMail.. I just learned that noLED actually does audio/vib alerts too - but not nearly as configurable as yours and I want to use yours but I don't know how to get it to work and I NEED my screen leds also - as my phone has NO LED.. Can you incorporate LED's like his in your app?! You say that you have run both apps together? I did find that when I turned off noLED, I got repeat alerts from your app. Question - should I use your app for the initial alerts AND repeats, or just repeats, and if I use your app for the initial alerts - do I turn off the alerts on the phone?? Please let me know.. I know you're busy, but I really want this to work!!
Thanks!

I do plan to add "noLed" style screen notifications to LightFlow, that's one of the next things I plan to work on (mostly because I may get a new phone soon, and it could be a samsung phone).
As for settings alerts. You can either use the default apps notification and have it switched off in lightflow, or switch it on in lightflow (but switch it off in the main app)

I generally use the main apps notification unless it's for a notification type that's more configurable in lightflow (e.g. contact specific notifications).

I'll have a go at installing noled again and specifically trying repeating alerts for gmail and let you know how I get on.
Cheers
Andrew

So the Missed Call repeat alerts works GREAT.. and the Voicemail one sometimes works.. but none of the others work with noLED running.. why would that be? Here's what the noLED developer told me.. but I really need both of these apps to work.. Should I uninstall/reinstall yours? I don't want to lose the fact that the missed call repeat alert is working though.. The only difference in setup is that for Missed Call I have "app" selected to turn it off.. and for VM I have Voicemail. The others I have "screen" I thnk.. I really need something to work for repeat alerts.. NoLed has it's own, but they are all one tone..
Anywhat, here's what the NoLed developer said:
I think Light Flow disables itself once the screen turns on which NoLED does. So you'll have to contact them to resolve this issue.

I'm using Handcent.

Of all the apps supported Handcent is the most troublesome. I'm not sure why, but if I fix one thing, another breaks for somebody else.

I'm guessing the amount of settings handcent has causes everybody to have it set up differently.

On a more general note, how are people finding version 2.6.0 of LightFlow.
We had quite a few problems with 2.5.0 and I'm hoping the latest version has fixed most issues....except for one I'm working on for one app.....guess which......yep.....handcent!

Hi Andrew - I know you're busy - but maybe now that you have the latest version out - you can maybe look into the conflict with NoLED - for your next release! I'm making sure to stay away from Handcent or another popular SMS type app (I forget the name right now) as I don't want anything else to interfere w/my Lightflow.. Maybe there's a different app than NoLED that I could use.. although that app has some decent features.. but I really want to get your app working. I did get the new version - and I emailed you the info from the debugger widget.. in case it's of any value.. Anyway - thank you!

Hi. I now know why it doesn't work for repeating notifications and I'm adding in new features for that into the next release.

Sounds and vibrations will hopefully all get options as to whether to make a sound/vibration when the screen is on, or when in a call.

Hi Andrew! Thank you sooo much! I know you don't make money on this stuff.. but I am psyhced! Take your time.. at least I know you're working on it! and the weird thing - it works for missed call.. and maybe voicemail too.. but anyway - thanks so much.. As soon as that's all set, I'll go "promote" it to all the folks looking for a "berry buzz" replacement!!

Well, hopefully the options seem to be working for me now in the development build. I'll give it a test with noLed on my phone to confirm the repeating notifications work.

Sounds good.. they work fine for me - without the NoLED.. but not with it.. and your lights to NOT light my "flashlight" - but I don't care at all.. I do with the NoLED would come on if the screen is NOT blacked out - but it doesn't.. still - it's better than nothing.. I can't believe they made a phone w/out an LED! Thanks again..

Hey Andrew - any updates on this? It's so weird that my Missed Call and Voicemail (I think) do repeat audible alerts, but nothing else does. Also - would REALLY like to differentiate alerts from different email accounts.. Again - for me - all I can use from your app is sounds/vibrations - I have no lights! That's why I need the No LED app which seems to conflict with your app..
Thanks much - Maggie
