Root [ROM][Beta][FINAL] CM7 Android For Triumph [Tickerguy Edition, Kernel: mine] 11/19

Very stupid question that I would not embarrass myself with if I had not been looking for over an hour. Anyhow the question is how do I format /systemwhen upgrading. I looked around in clockwork for this option but did not see it. Also, if coming from a previous version could I Clear all caches and data ("factory reset") and then advanced restore data to get all my apps and settings back? Please be gentle.

Format options are under mounts and storage in Cwm.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it or if this means anything, but I tried flashing the rom with adb. First, I typed adb shell and got the little $. So I typed su and I got the little #. Any command I typed after that no matter what it was it told me "not found." Not sure what is going on here.

Again, the original problem was that I get this message any time I try to flash any version of the rom in clockwork recovery:

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/update-cm-7.1.0-TG-0.3-Beta-Triumph-signed.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.

Draining almost double as fast as Stock for me

Just to keep our observations objective here, I think it is important that we have a way to actually measure our battery draw. There is a free app on the market called "CurrentWidget" that will monitor both the draw and charge current in our phones. It can be set to poll at any interval (by default it polls every 60 seconds) and will show via a widget what your current draw is. On my Triumph on Beta 4 with just data on and the screen off my draw sits at 24mA......while with the phone on the lowest brightness with just data on it's at 120mA. I'd be curious to see people report back their draws and see if we can determine an average draw. It would also be interesting to see what people see if you are still on an older version of TG's rom.

There is also a neat feature in CurrentWidget that allows you to log your readings so you can look at the end of the day and see trends in your power draw and you can start to tie those trends together with what you're doing through out the day. Just remember that it will show current if you are plugged in too....so what it shows while your charger is connected is the charge in mA going into your phone.

So check it out and let us know what you're all seeing in terms of draw.

Just a note on SD cards, there a lot of spoofed (I guess you would call it) cards out there that less reputable sellers (read eBay!) hack to fool your computer/phone into thinking they are whatever size - 32GB like yours was - and are actually a lot smaller. I got burned once - a "16 GB" card would only hold 1GB!

Well if PNY is selling those cards to Best Buy, then I think I smell a lawsuit...

No honestly, that isn't the issue here. There was something else going on. It's entirely possible it was just one bad/flawed card and if I traded for another it'd been fine. But I got annoyed and decided to take my money to another brand! :)

it definitely sounds like when you're in CWM you are choosing the options that says "Apply Update from SDCard" instead of the option that says "Install Zip from SDCard," which is the option you need to choose, and then you need to find the update on your sdcard manually and apply it. DO NOT USE THE "APPLY UPDATE FROM SDCARD" option because this is a stand alone update package and is not "technically" a CWM compiled update package. ALWAYS USE THE "CHOOSE ZIP FROM SDCARD" option and manually find your update and apply it..... just saying.

Just curious as to why superuser says that it's due for an update in the Market, yet when I go to manually update it, it just loads forever until it goes back to the superuser page where it asks me to either open or update superuser. Just curious no worry or rush because superuser works perfectly for me as it is.

Mine successfully updates every time I install a new cm7 update.

Is anybody having battery issues with beta 4?

I had some serious drainage going on with 3, about 15% to 20% an hour but so far after only updating to 4 without any other changes I am getting about 10% an hour with an equal amount of use. Same as what I had seen with the stock Rom. On a side note I reinstalled Juice Defender Ultimate about 2 hours ago and have not had any reboots.

Hello,

I'm new at this, being my this phone my first android phone.

Unfortunately I am getting bugs with the LED notification lights.

Whenever I receive a text message, I get no LED light notification. If I change a setting in the CM menu, either the Messaging App stops working and I am forced to force close, or the CM menu stops working and I am forced to force close it.

I can also not adjust the LED settings for calls, and other apps, because it will make the app/phone app crash. Sometimes it even makes the phone reboot.

Any tips?

Thanks

Ok, have what may or may not be another dumb ars noob question. This morning I updated from 3 to 4 without formatting /system and everything worked out great. Later on I decided to do it over with formatting /system just to be safe. After doing this I no longer had a registered Google account and when attempting to set one up again it was no longer an option in account / sync settings. I realized the account was no longer present when I opened the market and was asked if I would like to register an account. After choosing yes it just takes me back to my home screen. Am I missing something? About to try and flash gapps and see if that helps but figured either way I would throw this out there in case anyone else is having the same issue. Again, please be genital as I am very sensitive.

when you format system it delets all google apps, or "gapps" so reflash the gapps package and you should be fine! :D this happened because all apps are located in /system/app

Hi there. I'm enjoying CM7 and have been for the past week, coming from a stock rom.

Some of the few things I've noticed:
- Random reboots from waking (hopefully fixed in beta 4, trying it out now)

- My Android subsonic application will sound glitch randomly while streaming from my home server (not a bandwidth issue). It sounds like a very, very fast sound skip for about a half second every now and again. The best way to describe it is sound glitching. I've not yet tried any other streaming apps.

- WiFi no longer picks up hidden WiFi APs. My work's AP is hidden though it does reveal itself once every x minutes. Unfortunately, with CM7, I am unable to connect to it. This was not an issue with the stock ROM.

- When I unlock the screen (I turned off off/on animations due to glitchiness), I will see my normal android desktop and then it goes into the screen lock

- It is very difficult for people to understand what I'm saying on the phone. This was not an issue with the stock application and is a constant in CM7

- LauncherPro crashes the first time I boot the phone. The behavior is that the phone finishes booting. I will hit the application tray shortcut. Nothing will happen for a while. I will then get the choice whether to wait or kill. If i wait, nothing happens. Sometimes it will FC when waiting. Afterwards it does not FC.

- Dialer application takes a while to come up. This used to not be an issue.

I too have random reboots from waking as well as the desktop (or whatever app I was using) before the lockscreen comes up.
I also have had issues with people not understanding me, I thought it was virgin's service but on second thought I don't think so.

Thanks ziggy46, thought of that why in the act of writing my post. Remembered that I had a similar issue with Facebook and later why in Titanium noticed that it was red and realized I had backed Facebook up on stock as a system app on the original Rom. All is now well and thanks for the positive reinforcement.
