TB with GB and Sense 3.0 installed @ Best Buy?!?

The story: Hubby and I bought two TBs @ Best Buy in July. They're not rooted, all stock, running Android 2.2 and Sense 2.1. Last week the volume buttons stopped working on hubby's phone, so we brought it back for repair under the Best Buy service plan.

The result?

Android version: 2.3.4 :) ok, update has rolled out so not a surprise
HTC Sense version: 3.0  Woohoo!!
Software number: 2.xx.xxx.x  Huh??
PRI version: 1.41_002, 1.64_002
PRL version: 15027
ERI version: 5

WTH?? Is this the first time anyone has heard of a Thunderbolt running Sense 3.0 "stock" without rooting, BAMF, etc.? I don't want to root my TB but I'm a bit jealous! Already updated mine to Gingerbread, but I may need to cause a little damage to my TB to get my own Best Buy Sense 3.0 "repairs"...

Sounds like the "service plan" had to do with rooting the phone, or they took back a rooted phone with a custom rom and it got refirbed, what is the other stuff say under about phone?

OMG, I think you're right. If you look under "more" in software info I get:

Kernel version: 2.6.35.13-ck3-cfs+
ziggy471@infectedrom #091311
tue sep 13 12:56:07 edt 2011

Baseband version: 1.39.00.0430R, 0.01.69.0501R

Build number: Synergy_RLS1-Mecha

Browser version: Webkit/533.1

:( I guess I should be happy, but with a voided warranty and no idea what's been messed with on this rooted phone I'm a little annoyed!!

Yep that would be Synergy, EPIC fail by bestbuy. You can unroot it if you are comfortable doing so, if you aren't then you could take it back to best buy. Or you could flash a new rom.

I think the next step if you want to try to unroot would be boot to hboot to see what version of hboot it is and if it is overwriteable by RUUs or not.

not that I ever want to use sense again long term but I find it amusing HTC initially said the Tbolt and Dinc2 wouldn't get Sense 3.0 due to hardware limitations and a few months later release the Rhyme with the exact same hardware and sense 3.5. On top of that every review I've read talked about how snappy the performance is (after they remind us how dated it is). I think they should release the update with sense 3.0 or 3.5, hell the developers have already done the 4G data/connection for them.

Sense 3.5 is supposedly less power intensive than Sense 3.0, so there may be a chance that the Thunderbolt may see Sense 3.5 in the future.
