I was hoping someone might have something useful laying around. I've googled text and image and don't have anything solid, like a screencap of the at&t website at launch. Anything you guys might have that would be helpful would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

I never saw anything saying 1080p.

I went back to my emails with my Fiance when we were discussing the phones back in February. I copied and pasted the "Features" from both the AT&T site, and the Official Motorola page into an email to her as my suggestion on what phone we should upgrade to. There is NOTHING there about 1080p (or 1080i).

Sorry - but the only time I've ever seen ANYTHING mentioning 1080 video on the Atrix has been discussions in Forums. Never on anything official.

This is no "Proof" - it's just articles about the Atrix.

Motorola Atrix to get full HD 1080p video capture after launch - GSMArena.com news

Motorola will enable Atrix 4G's 1080p video recording in post-launch software update -- Engadget

Motorola Atrix 1080p Video Capture Capability to be Added Post-Launch | Android Community

Again, none of those would count as "Proof" as it's just speculation. I mean, look at all of the articles like this that said the Atrix 2 would be LTE, or that there would be an LTE iPhone5 this month....

Like I said, I've never seen anything OFFICIAL from AT&T or Motorola promising 1080 video. And, as of February 23rd of this year, it was NOT on either of their official pages listing the details of the units. (That's the date on the email I sent my Fiance I mentioned in my previous post.)

Interesting. So, let me dispel the rumors around this. It seems moto and at&t were able to hush this up more successfully than I thought. This *DID* happen. I saw it reported from CES, it was on motorola press materials, it was on the moto web site, and when it came to at&t, it was on their website in the features list for the atrix. I remember this very clearly in part because I found it interesting that they prominently displayed '1080p video recording' and then in fine print said 'with future software update' or something to that effect. I remember thinking that while this feature was not a deal-breaker for me, I would hope they would fulfill their promise. It was at least a week or more (I'm thinking a month) after the launch of the atrix on at&t that all mention of the 1080p video recording vanished from moto and at&t's sites. This was discussed in the forums at the time with the naysayers claiming this was all the proof they needed that moto had no intention of fulfilling their promise. It appears the naysayers were right on this account...

anyway, since it was definitely on both websites (and someone in a forum mentioned a product manual), I figured someone out there may have a screenshot or something of that nature. I know it's a long shot, but the at&t store manager said if I could show him proof, he would setup an exchange for the atrix2 which works for me. I could always go to AMEX with this, but would rather at&t stand up and take care of this.

I'm not arguing or saying I don't believe you. I'm just saying, any such claim by AT&T or Moto was gone by late February when we first started shipping for an android phone.

I wish you luck.

gotcha. I got my phone a week after launch (2/28 i think) and I may not have checked right before purchase, but I definitely checked this out after preorders started. Do you know when this feature was changed on the website and promo materials? I was able to find several screenshots taken from the moto atrix fact sheet page that show both 1080p capture and playback would be available with software update, but the wayback machine can't give me the right info on at&t's page.

Well, I have no idea when it was changed. As I said, when I copied and pasted the info from their sites on 2/23, it was not there. IF that was not a personal email to her, I would forward it, or post a copy of it. She got her's (and her kids) about a week after that. I got mine around March 15th'ish. That being said, I've gone through the copy of the documentation that came with mine, including the details and specifications as well as the User Guide PDF's I downloaded at that time. There is no reference to 1080 video capture in them.

As for the wayback machine site, you can't depend on it. Sites can opt out of being indexed (We've done that for all of our websites where I work). All you have to do is put a "Tag" in the HTML of the pages you don't want indexed and they will skip them.

No need for proof on your part, I believe you. From what I gather, the references never made it into the manuals, just the marketing materials and websites. They may have made those changes just before launch, but should have said something about it so those who did their research early wouldn't get screwed.

as far as the wayback machine, it does have both moto and at&t's site indexed, but at&t's jsp doesn't cooperate in their cache for me to get to the specifications tab. sucks.

I found my PDF copies of the Atrix user guides and tech spec's that I downloaded from Motorola's website on March 14th. Neither say anything about being a "revised" copy or edition, so I can only ASSUME they are the first editions.

A quick search of the documents turn up no reference to 1080 at all. Not even playback.

I know you were looking for copies of the manuals/guides that might have that. From what I can tell, I have copies of the original and it's not in there.

Sorry

yer awesome. thanks for looking. I'm not surprised those manuals make no mention of 1080P recording. The atrix facts page on moto's site is dated 1/5/2011 and was changed after that date to remove mention of the video capture. I've got screen caps of that web page with the 1080p recording claim in it. I'm gonna go with what I got and hope AMEX backs me up if necessary.

Good luck man!

Post the images on PhotoBucket/Picasa/ImageShack or somewhere and link to them here for others that might want to pursue this course of action.

I am just curious since I hardly ever use the video recording on my Atrix
and when I do I use lower quality VGA for file size purposes, but when
would 720p HD recording from a cell phone NOT be sufficient? If you
are needing more than 720p and you have a trained eye that you can actually tell a difference during playback, would you really want to be using a cell phone in the first place?
Is a 720p recording of Aunt Jenny's birthday party not video quality worthy? :)
Again, I am just curious.

indeed. I'll probably never use 1080P video recording, but I tucked that bit of information away for future use, and my driving reason for the 'upgrade' is the atrix screen. It wasn't too bad at first, but the pentile matrix just got to me over months of use, I suppose. It's not much consolation that they did a return for me (oh yeah, it worked. thanks, guys) because there are still so many people who bought the phone with a promised feature that moto just quietly buried. If a promised feature cannot be provided, the least they should do is own up to it and alert their customers so they can take the appropriate action. It should never be left to the forum rumor-mill.

so it worked. I couldn't even get smoking-gun like proof as the wayback machine's cache of AT&T's page wouldn't give me the specs sheet where I first saw the 1080P video recording feature. I did provide an engadget article talking about it, the current moto fact page, and an image of a portion of that fact page showing that 1080 video recording would be made available with future software update.

this convinced the store manager and I got to pick a replacement. I went with the atrix2 because it has the best screen (not a fan of samoled) and combination of features. I'm working on getting the pdf's converted to images to put up on photobucket for ya.

Ok, I've got the 'images' converted and here are the links: http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q437/razholio/atrix_screenshot.png
http://i350.photobucket.com/albums/q437/razholio/atrix_engadget_video.png
and here's the *current* moto fact page I printed for reference: Motorola ATRIX? 4G Fact Sheet - Fact Sheets - Motorola Mobility, Inc.

by my own admission, this evidence is pretty weak as it fails to provide anything conclusively authoritative (like an archive of the moto or at&t pages). However, at&t appears to be trying to keep customers happy. I took note that the sales guy at the store made it a point to tell me that I would be receiving a customer service performance survey text and would appreciate my leaving positive feedback. If you strike out with the above evidence, attempts to coax the old moto or at&t specs page out of the internet archive may be worth the effort. I struck out in this endeavor, myself, but then I wasn't going to put out that much effort knowing AMEX had my back anyway... ;)
