I have the Epic 4g and have had issues since upgrading to Froyo, I'm finally tired of them...questions that I have in relation to the epic vs photon

1. I'm assuming there are no problems with gps, correct?
2. B4 the update, if I was on the phone & received a text, a tone would sound in my ear, after update, no tone
3. after update, if I'm on the main screen & open the keyboard, all icons disappear and takes like 20 seconds to reappear...same if I back out of apps...didn't have this problem on Eclair...do you get that problem on the photon?
4. Lag...it's almost impossible for me to hang up on anybody cus I have to keep tapping the screen on end call b4 it decides to let me end the call (but it has no problem waking up while on the phone & allowing me to mute lol)

Other questions pertaining to issues I've seen on the board, have they fixed the sleeping death thing? And there was something else I saw a lot of complaints on that I can't remember...

1. In general, no. What minor problem I had was fixed in the last update (error reporting).

2. I can't say I've ever received a text while on the phone, so I honestly don't know if the Photon makes a noise while on a call.

3. No problems with the keyboard or with apps not reappearing right away. Remember that the Photon does not have an external physical keyboard like the Epic, though.

4. Again, no problems with calls or with this kind of lag (but this sounds like a software glitch on your phone as opposed to something plaguing the Epic in general).

The two biggest issues the Photon had at release (for a few people, mind you... they were far from universal) were the "sleep of death" you noted and the silent call bug. Both have been fixed with updates, so no worries there. The phone does not suffer from any widespread issues. :)

That all said, the Photon is an awesome phone but I encourage you to play with one in person before you commit. Some people can't get past the Pentile screen (they see lots of pixels), while others (like me) quickly grew to ignore this and have no issues with it. You should also compare it to the HTC Evo 3D and the Samsung Epic Touch, although I can understand fully if you want nothing to do with Samsung after dealing with the Epic. :p

Thanks for your input...I dont want to get the Evo 3d because I'm not a fan of 3d, it hurts my eyes, so I don't want a 3d phone...the Epic Touch, I didn't really look at because I've heard it only added a little to the epic, plus I don't want gps telling me it's rerouting because it thinks I'm a couple streets over instead of where I'm suppose to be. and how long it takes for updates.

To be fair, the Epic Touch doesn't seem to suffer from the GPS problems that the original Galaxy phones did but you can check the Epic Touch forums for confirmation. I personally don't trust Samsung to support the Epic Touch very well after witnessing first-hand the debacle that was the Froyo update you mentioned (my fiance has the original Epic as well).

My wife and I both had Epics. I bought her a slightly used MoPho and myself a even more slightly used Evo3D. Both phones are leaps and bounds better than our Epics. Don't get me wrong, the Epic 4G is a great phone when you can get it to function properly, but it usually takes a root + custom Rom to accomplish that. The Photon and Evo3D are both lightning fast right outta the box and seem to be super stable thus far. Don't let the 3D aspect of the Evo3D deter you from buying it. You can just switch the 3D off if you aren't interested. It's still an amazing device. You really can't go wrong with either phone though.

Yea, I just can't see myself buying a 3d phone & not use the 3d lol..I see that like buying a car known for speed & then do 50mph lol...with that said, I did go into a sprint store & play with the photon & the epic touch...the lightness of both phones shocked me, but the epic touch is so light felt like I wasn't holding it + it's so big...the photon isn't much bigger than my epic...sooooooo photon it is (next week lol)

Does it have gorilla glass?

I also have a horrid Samsung phone (Transform) and just discovered the Photon yesterday. This sounds very promising - I'm up for an upgrade on Dec 1. The Transform is exactly as the Epic was described above - without a root and ROM, it won't work well at all.

The Transform was my first smartphone, and I learned a lot. Anything to beware of with the Photon? It performed very well in the store - does it continue to do so with apps loaded? I have RadarNow, MyTracks, Sportacular, Weatherbug Elite, etc., installed now and would love it if they actually worked smoothly.

The Photon is solid with the duel core processor and ample memory. I use Chomp sms and can shut the ringer off if I'm in a call. I've already had more software updates on my Photon than my wife has had on her Epic that she got on its release day. Go Motorola.
I love this phone and my wife is still green with envy, 7 months till she can upgrade.

I just picked up the the MOPHO a few weeks ago, and love this phone. I have had no problems at all with this phone. One thing I was worried about was all the talk of the pentile screen looking pixelated. For me I don't notice this at all. The screen is bright and gorgeous. I also love being outside on a bright day, and being able to see the screen, just as if I was inside.
Also the radio on this phone is better than any other I have ever had. I pull in a Sprint signal in quite a few places where I would be roaming with other phones.
Motorola hit a home run with this phone.

The glass on this phone is super-tough. I got fine scratches from simply wiping off smudges on my Nexus S 4G. I used the MoPho for a couple weeks before putting it into an OtterBox Defender, and the screen stayed flawless. I'm getting a Lapdock, so I'm probably going to have to "go naked" or mod a case to fit the plug through. If so, I won't use a screen protector... I just don't think it's needed with this glass.
