Help Loss of Service (LOS) error and status of fix

yes sorry for the delay in answering. .I'm driving to San Diego from San Antonio. I'm rooted and did this.. loven this damn phone.. I cant put it down. I just keeps on going.. just last evening we surfed 4 MACBOOK pro's on the wifi tether app on 4G in Arizona .. mannnnn it fly's.... I used Zedoex v1.3 to root with odin then flashed the stock kernel back .. loaded wifi tether from the market to use with 4G.. and havent looked back.:)

No worries, my brotha. I used Zedomax's kernel V3 using Heimdall with my MacBook Air.

My 3G turns off when switching from wifi now. ugh. restart is needed. so you flashed the stock kernel and have since not had any issues with LOS?

what did you do first? The whole updating profile thing mentioned above? or did you just go back to stock kernel and everything was cool?

Well I went through this today and it only took about 5 mins. I can't compare to what results I was getting before (i'm in a different location at present) but after following this I did get 11.3Mbit down/ 1.5Mbit up on 4g and 1.6Mbit down and 500k up on 3g. Nice speeds. I'll edit this post with results from home to see if helped with cell phone reception.

Cool glad I could help.. I think this is all we can do till Sprint/Samsung decides to grace us with official fix. I check daily with Kies... I found on a galaxy review site that Samsung is pushing a firmware update through Kies to fix this issue. I haven't seen it come through yet.

any speed increase is a good thing to me... especially when we pay extra for the privilege. :)

You have to call sprint to get it or use a program to hack it. In other words, better to just call sprint if you want to try this method.
neah.. neah!!! no hacking needed... you can download terminal emulator from the market for free... run it... type this at the courser ... its case sensitive (getprop ril.MSL) hit enter/return on the keyboard and viola there it is.. your six digit MSL... no hacking no phone calls to Sprint. ;) keep this number it will come in handy again I'm sure.. I hope this helps It did for me.

I flashed the stock first... I noticed that when I get slammed in the middle of the day like 3 phone calls within 15 mins.. and email back due to each phone call and If I missed a call Google voice sends a text. I would see a lag when trying to read a text only email. So I did more research and found if I flashed the

1.stock kernel back
2.update prl
3.update profile (phone asked to be rebooted) ..reboot
4.do the 3g/4g speed proxy settings
5.data reset provisioning (phone forced reboot) reboot. and finally
6.go into recovery and clear cache only.

my phone is faster download and upload and now I do not get the lag in text email only. It may fool me by having no bars at times but phone calls and emails come in and the signal jumps up 2 or 3 bars immediately. I'm loven it now.. also now that I'm driving cross country I can see Sprint is at work Dude updating towers. I get strong signal where I didn't on EVO 4g now.;)

Since using Zedomax V3 my 3G is aweful, and the over clocking is no big deal, ET4G is already fast. Battery life is really bad too!

I'll flash stock kernel/updates. Get back to ya...

was my very reason to flash stock kernel back.. too slow in more than one place.. and iffy when using data while roaming with that other kernel and ate the battery to hell.

gotta run time to get on the road..

Anyone know how to flash the stock kernal back using a Mac? I cannot find any tutorials. Also, if you flash back to the stock kernal, does this unroot the phone? I have Zedo and appreciate the ability to root, but am experiencing LOS several times an hour, and even in the middle of phone calls. Killing me...

If someone would post a step by step, that would be great! I am kinda a newb.

Got the Epic Touch last week at BB. Love the phone but, reception issues. I'm coming from the regular Epic. In my office, it did struggle ( roam) but I WAS able to send texts and read emails on it. I was also able to get on the Android Market. Now, with the Epic Touch, in the same areas where I've had no problems with me Evo or Epic, the touch will
1) say " Failed" on 3 out of 5 texts sent , although some texts go through
2) When going to the market, its slow, then says " connection timed out RETRY?
3) When trying to read emails, it will say "unable to connect with server"
I have not had ANY of these issues with previous phones. Is this related to the (hopefully ) expected "FIX" on the 19th? I have done hard reset, rest data, updated profile & prl ( doesn't update 75% of the time) Any ideas?

Sounds exactly like my phone. Got my at a BB in Chicagoland and have been having reception / signal problems ever since. I'm still waiting on a text from my wife she sent telling me she was in a car accident over an hour ago (she is home now and everyone is ok). Earlier today I had to leave my daughter at home by herself to wait for a ride to her game while I was dropping off one of the other kids, told her to text me when she was picked up. I already made it back to her game and saw her before her text arrived that she was picked up. Frustrating. Starting to want my EVO back.

Edit. Her text just came through, it is now 7:41pm and the text says 6:40pm. This thing sucks.

Still waiting for a fix for this issue before I replace my wifes Epic 4g. I won't touch E4GT till there is a fix! Samsung has fooled me before. I'm almost at the point of giving up and buying her a Photon instead. My friend already returned his E4GT because of poor reception and now has a Photon. Sadly, the E4GT is superior in every way to the Photon except for the signal problem. Samsung? You're so frustratingly disappointing!

in short Sprint level 2 told me to reset my data/provision/activation by ##72786# .. then enter your MSL then click okay to reset. The phone will reboot. After that I updated my PRL then Profile.. the phone asked me to reboot (first time I'd seen this after updating PRL and Profile) did that. Then I ##3282# enter my MSL then went to edit mulitmedia and set all proxy and settings to 0. This was to speed up 3G and 4G speeds. Now my 4g I get bursts of 15mb downloads and 1.5mb uploads. Oh yeah!! I'm happy .. keeping my Epic 4G Touch until June of next year when I have my last upgrade to a full on Quadcore LTE phone... no more LOS for me and pretty good 4G and 3G speeds now.. I live in San Antonio TX. I hope this helps some of you out.. it did for me!!:)

Could you explain what settings you switch to zero? I went into edit the multimedia settings and don't want to mess anything up.

Yea... Reception officially sucks on this phone. today tried to use the gps for navigation.. It locked then lost signal.. Had to reboot 3 times before it would lock again. On a recent hike.. I was with a friend who was making Facebook posts with pictures when we got to the top of the mountain, but my Epic Touch had no service. (yes, we're both on Sprint, so it was not the network.) Really sucks.. Amazing phone gone to waste. My EVO never had any issues like this.

My husband and son each bought the Epic. My son hasn't had any LOS problems but my hubby could hardly ever GET service. When he went into Radio Shack, they told him Sprint was having service issues since they brought the iPhone into their lineup. He told them that isn't the problem because I have no service issues with my EVO, nor do either of our sons (Epic and Moment). After reading this thread, it looks like there really is no end in sight to this problem and my hubby couldn't continue to have no service so he exchanged it for an iPhone. The iPhone should be adequate for his needs but it was hard for him to give up Epic's large screen.
