Root [ROM][Beta][FINAL] CM7 Android For Triumph [Tickerguy Edition, Kernel: mine] 11/19

3G has been working fine in this ROM for quite some time, Virgin Mobile however, has not. I'd say you have a carrier problem, not a ROM problem.

I agree that experiencing 3G dropouts happens with all the carriers and that the MT 3G is solid. If my 3G signal is so weak or dropped out by the carrier, then the phone switches quickly to 1X until the 3G signal is back up. If you really have 3G issues with the phone then do a clean re-install because there shouldn't be any phone related. Even when my 3G goes to sleep it wakes up far quicker than stock and Tickerguy has been right on and way ahead of the curve.

1) If whoever I'm talking to hangs up before I pull the phone away from my face, the phone takes an incredibly long time to start responding again. The screen will stay black despite pressing the unlock button, for at least 15 seconds. The buttons do not light up either.
2) When connecting to wifi via the settings screen, I get the force close prompt. I press wait and it connects fine though.
3) Sometimes starting up the camera, the preview is rendered as if it's taking the portrait image, rotating it and then stretching it to landscape. Stays that way even rotating the phone. I tried to grab a screenshot for you, but it didn't work.
4) Trying to change to video mode from the front camera results in a black screen. Controls are still there, and seem to react fine, but there is no image. Changing back to still image mode results in a force close. Have to change to front camera, select video, then go back to main camera to get video.
5) YouTube app portrait video is glitchy.

Using 10/30 build

These are the only bugs I can find besides what's listed as known. This rom is awesome and it keeps getting better. Great work man. :)

But that's just the thing. This kind of problem didn't happen until I installed the beta. Before, it would go in and out while buffering, but in this case, it completely shuts it out. It's not like I'm going to places I've never been before. Would someone mind trying out IHeartRadio on 3G and confirm whether this is the case? Thank you!

This ROM does not mess with the phones radio signal. If you have signal issues it isn't the ROM.

BTW here's an OBJECTIVE view of battery consumption - mostly idle, except for a few text messages and one ~10 minute phone call today.

7 hours, ~15%, or about 2%/hour. This is with email being pushed to the device on K9mail, using Juice Defender, Wifi off (3g data only.)

The only way you're beating this with a smartphone is if its in airplane mode.

Hey TG, what version of Juice Defender are you using and are you using a standard profile or did you create your own? If you created your own, could you give some info on how you have that set up?

I installed Juice Defender (free) and it seems to be doing a decent enough job. I'm wondering if upgrading the app is worth it.

That's just the free one on the least-aggressive stock profile.

Yeah.

Incidentally, I have some bad news.

There is a high probability that I'm leaving Virgin, and thus the Triumph. T-Mobile may have successfully lured me back with a $45/month unlimited everything plan, and I still have my Vibrant (which is also running CM7 now, natch.)

Their network is a known quantity to me (I was a customer of theirs for nearly a decade) and their 4g/3g footprint has massively expanded here in the last two months. It's much faster (like 4x Sprint locally - I'm seeing ~4Mbps sustained over the cell side on UMTS) and of course I have both national coverage and roaming, where I don't have the latter on Virgin.

And now it's cheaper to boot.

I haven't decided yet, but did go get a SIM and have 2 weeks to figure out if I want to keep it or not. If I do my Triumph will be for sale and that will be the end of my work on the ROM, since I won't have the service any longer (and probably not the phone either of course.) I will of course sell the Triumph with GB loaded on it and the Froyo load on the SD card to be flashed back if the buyer wishes.

This is probably not what you want to hear, but it is what it is; Github still has my code of course and I am not going to remove it, so anyone who wants to pick this up is of course welcome to do so.

Where is this plan at? I keep hearing people talk about this cheap TMo plan and I have yet to actually find it. The closest I can find is an unlimited talk/txt plan with 200mb data for $45. And in fact, *none* of the 'unlimited everything' individual plans I see include unlimited data - they all have some sort of data cap (200mb up to 10gb).

Thank you tickerguy for giving us this wonderful ROM. This is only my 2nd post but I never did thank you the first time around. I've been following you, this thread, since I got my MT back in July and will be sad if you decide to go. Like you, I made the switch from t-mobile but I was never offered any $45 everything unlimited plan. Even if they did, I'd probably still stay VM/3G as I have no need for a faster data connection at the moment.

In my first post, I talked about the bad battery performance I was getting. Basically, I lost about 20% every hour on a fresh CM7 B01 ROM install. I did not use it for any voice calls, games, watching videos or listening to music, etc. This is horrific! My cell phone would not last 5 hours in a day just for being turned on. Also, bear in mind, I was coming from an iPhone 2G where I was used to ~2 day battery life.

I now have CM7 B06 and it is fantastic! It is very stable, no reboots, no FCs, fast, etc. When I compared it to my wife's stock MT I'll never go back. As for battery life, I now get excellent performance like you do (i.e., using 20% battery in 5 hours running the same apps like before). The big changes has been CM7 B01 vs B06, turn on 3G and wifi off and use Juice Defender. I will do more test hopefully to find out where the drain comes from. In the meantime, I am super happy that my phone can last a day from a single charge.

Small business, $44.95, you must pass credit and it is a post-paid plan. No handset subsidy but I have a Vibrant with CM7 on it. I do like the SGS II but I'm not going to buy it yet - I'll wait a bit as I like the Amaze too but am getting strongly irritated with HTC's locked bootloader crap -- they'll give you the code to unlock it now but it doesn't S-OFF if you do and if you do that it voids the warranty (even if that's not why it failed.) In a word, no; I've never managed to brick a Samsung Galaxy in a way I can't recover from using ODIN (and I've bricked 'em GOOD before!)

Unlimited voice/text/data, first 5Gb at full speed. If you're using more than 5Gb/month you're doing some pretty extreme things. I am a heavy user and while I've gone over 2Gb fairly often I've never exhausted 5Gb - and I've got two+ years of history to fall back on. Even when traveling and in my car basically the entire day (evenings at a hotel with a Wifi link of course) I don't hit that 5Gb number.

If it was a 2Gb soft cap I'd call it a bad deal compared to Virgin, but at 5Gb it's not an excellent deal.

It's what Sprint should have done earlier this year - let anyone activate anything on their Virgin network that will operate on their band -- bring your own handset -- even if they restrict it to the "unlimited everything" (e.g. the $55) plan.

Incidentally I have a B.07 build that I will release in a few days; it doesn't change much of anything other than multiplying the light sensor by 30 so the averaging and "jump" code in CM7 works as it does with sensors that return a reasonable approximation of an actual Lux value. Other than that there are no changes and functionally B.06 is identical.

Ah thanks, I wasn't aware of those plans! Looks like if you don't talk much you can save another $5/mo (for 1000 minutes instead of unlimited). I wonder what the 'fees' work out to though... up-front pricing is one of the nicer things about VM.

Really my only complaint with VM is the lack of roaming. I drove several places this summer and hit entire states (read: Nebraska) where I basically had 0 signal - glad I didn't break down anywhere! I might just buy a prepaid VZW daily phone 'pay when you use it' to keep in the car for emergencies.

At any rate it is hard to convince myself to move off VM, since I got in at $25/mo. Even that $39.95 t-mo 1000 minute plan is a 60%/month rate hike (or more actually, with 'fees').

Anyone else having trouble sending email in the GMail app? I click send and it sits there for awhile then (I assume) that times out, and it saves a draft. The draft saves just fine, so I know I have a connection! Plus I see the 3g icon and 2 or 3 bars and I can read email just fine.

This has been happening the whole time I have been on CM7. To be honest I can't remember exactly, but believe I sent emails on stock.

Well I can understand that. My fiancée left AT&T so he could go to T-Mobile. They offer very good plan/service. Both post and prepaid plans are pretty decent. I sincerely hope someday Boost and Virgin Mobile carry 4G.

I am grandfathered into the $40 a month plan. It always worked for me. I am also working here so it's likely I won't leave VM (Though I've been offered a job at Cricket and AT&T).

We all appreciate the work you've done and the time you've put into this. I hope you do drop a line in with us from time to time. You've always got a place here with us MT'ers.

Thank you again for everything,
