And after rooting, I am thinking about downgrading to 2.2, because I don't really notice or appreciate any improvements and I now have issues with voice search while driving that I didn't have under 2.2.

I never received the OTA Gingerbread update (thankfully). Just a quick update and also thanks to those who encouraged the rest of us to root. I rooted this week and after removing the crapware, version 2.2 was running smoother than ever. My next adventure was to try Cyanogen 7.1. It was not for me. Nils' Business Gingersense 3.0 has been great and stable for me. I chose that over the 3.5 version because a few others report it more stable than 3.5. I do like the enhanced Sense 3.0 features and boot-time is like 5 or 6 seconds.

Thanks to the backup feature in Rom Manager I can now go back and forth between 2.2 and 2.3.4 very quickly. However, it looks like I'll stick with Gingersense. While it does use power a bit more quickly, I'm finally getting the settings tweaked for similar battery life to Froyo.

No GB love for me either. Who cares at this point.

Yea looks like I will have the Rezound before long.... (and will be waiting for ICS, lol)

Pretty sad. 2 months after the OTA started and was pulled, still no fixed OTA.

ROOT! I know you'll have it soon enough when the Vigor comes out but it really does speed up the phone and give it new life to take the crap off and run it how it should be run.

I'm already rooted, just running stock with most of the junk apps removed. Might throw an ICS rom on if\when those become available to get me til april when i can upgrade.

Just biding my time until the Galaxy Nexus hits the stores then it's so long Incredible! I'm annoyed at the lack of updates and to hear about all the issues with the Thunderbird update (not to mention the botched GB update for the Incredible) I'm not real keen on HTC these days. Wanted to buy the Rezound until it kept getting pushed back. If it had came out a month ago I would have got it.

Who is this ROOT person you are referring too?

To be fair the Rezound was never 'pushed' back. It never had even a rumor of a release date to push back...

And the Incredible was updated via OTA twice and has been EOL for a while now.

Rezound is out in less than 10 days. I like the look too.

However I will wait to see.if miuics is any good before I ever consider replacing this

Oh, kreisss, what have I done?!! I took the Android Police RUU - now, my battery life is less than half, I need to downgrade because of this, but I can no longer access hboot! Can anyone help me out of this rabbit hole?

It's been more than a month since I've been here, due to the pressures of moving. Shortly before I got into that, my Froyo phone got wiped by some unknown cause, but I didn't have time to deal with either the elaborate setup which it previously had, nor with flashing the Gingerbread RUU which so many seemed to be recommending at the time. I had made up my mind to flash the Gingerbread RUU when I could, which was two days ago. The lesson learned is that you really cannot judge from posted webwide comments (not all of them here) just how safe your phone will be with any new software until it's already obsolete! Although I was expecting improved battery management, I am now aware there are many serious complaints posted on Gingerbread. What I haven't seen posted is the problem I have in accessing hboot, through which I hope to downgrade myself out of this mess!

To start with, my Droid Incredible had Froyo, and was rooted. I downloaded and flashed the RUU for the Incredible from Android Police, which promised that "it's rootable". My phone then performed quickly after that, but it steadily heated up even when it was sitting idle with no running tasks, and the battery went from nearly full to shut-down dead within three hours! Also, my rooted apps stopped working, and I noticed the Superuser (ninja) icon was missing from my apps list. When I tried to access hboot to find out what became of my S-Off status, the usual process was ignored.

My battery plan has been to switch fully-charged batteries daily, so I know I didn't suddenly have one of them punk out - therefore, this battery drain is most probably a software issue.

I quickly realized that I needed to downgrade back to Froyo, but now I am unable to access the boot loader (hboot)! Pressing the Volume key down (or up) with the Power key no longer works (believe me, I've been through the flashing process enough to know how it used to work). Now, the phone does nothing until I let go of both, and then boots right into a normal (if it can be called that) Gingerbread session.

I did this upgrade because I thought that it was for the best. Despite Verizon and HTC not standing behind Gingerbread for the original DINC, it's migration season, when a lot of unexplained things happen, and this may have had something to do with my phone getting wiped for the 99th time by mysterious causes. Now my phone is half a brick from useless (a ten-minute phone call would likely kill a full battery), and I can't even access the bootloader so that I can flash it back to Froyo. I have eight months remaining on my contract, but since it's been more than a year, I cannot get another exchange. Plus, I don't have a landline. I have not been able to google up word on an hboot access situation similar to mine, and I desperately need help, if anyone knows how to work around my problem with accessing hboot.

Thanks.

Hi, Dave. A couple of things come to mind. Have you downloaded ROM Manager from the Market and tried using it for ROM management? Once donwloaded you can flash a different Recovery and also access it from the GUI. Second, how old is your battery? They have about a one year (or less) useful life. I just ordered my second Seidio extended 1750 battery as I'm noticing a slide in performance on my current one.

To get into hboot, have you disabled fast boot? (It's a new thing on the GB roms) Menu -> Settings -> Applications. Either disable that and then power off the phone, or leave it enabled and pull the battery before trying to get into hboot.

To get superuser back, once you're in hboot you'll need to flash a custom recovery, and then flash superuser in recovery. It won't be included with the RUU.

As far as battery, the RUU will reset all the syncs to default... So you may want to check, because weather, stocks, news, and who knows what all else may be doing a sync every hour or two.

Thanks, that works! It was Fast boot that was keeping me out of hboot.

I still have the same unfortunate battery problem, even when there are no installed apps. Given my historical penchant for widget use, I could have a lot of widgets polling for updates every hour and still get through 10-12 hours with moderate use while running Froyo, but now my battery goes from full to stone dead inside of three. I've even had the phone heat up just sitting idle on my desk since I flashed Gingerbread, and even more when I run Mortplayer Audiobooks - imagine what running a Navigation route process would do to it!

I have been using two batteries daily so that I don't have to plan dock time, and both are impacted the same by Gingerbread 2.3.4. Therefore, if there aren't any other new features which are killing my battery, it doesn't look like my phone will be of much use unless I get it running as it did on Froyo.

Can you, or anyone recommend a reliable source for downgrading back to Froyo?

Thanks.

Check in the root section, the first sticky("downgrading and s-off"). You can skip over most of it because you already have s-off (I hope) pretty sure the 2.2 RUU is in there you can run that...

So you're sticking with HTC. I'm a fan of sense but it makes to much sense (didn't mean to do that-yuck) not to go with Gnexus. Limited bloatware if any, NFC(not even sure if I'll use it) and the most enticing element, updates from Sammy/Google (should be I hope anyways.) I just see alot of support for this phone for several years and beyond from development to accessories. Not sure about the Samsungs UI compared to HTC Sense. Any feedback on that? Or is that included in ICS... thx
