So I noticed that there is a vibrate option when receiving a notification. However, when I turn it on it still doesn't vibrate. Is there a way to make your phone vibrate when you receive text messages and emails?? Seems really stupid that they have this feature on the phone but it doesn't work. I even went to verizon and they couldn't figure it out either.

Just to ask the question, did you set vibration notification in the Messaging app itself? In other words, start messaging, menu->messaging settings->vibrate (at the bottom, under "Notification settings")?

I don't use the email app, but I am fairly certain that there is a vibration option there as well.

Yeah I tried that, I went into general settings and vibrate is set to "always". I then went into message settings and vibrate when notified is checked. Yet still no vibrate. Do I have a defective phone or is this just a glitch in droid phones?

It sounds like you have a bad phone - this worked fine for me. All of my Android phones handled this perfectly.

My daughters phone had the same issue. No matter how the settings were set the phone would not vibrate when receiving a text. She ended up taking it to the V-store and they had to download something to her phone. I don't think it was a simple update. She didn't know for sure what was d-loaded but everything worked after that.
