Help Swype issues composing mail

This is becoming quite frustrating, I wonder if anyone can help. I've been a Shapewriter user on my last phone (HTC Hero) and I am determined to get Swype working for me on my new Galaxy S2...

In the Email app (please don't suggest Gmail or K9 or whatever - I want to try using the Social Hub for everything, at least for now, and it uses 'Email' for email) if Swype's 'Word Suggestion' option is enabled, it's impossible to delete words - when I press backspace the text field gets auto-filled with a copy of the word I'm deleting (presumably this is the 'suggestion'), this can get really messy really quickly and requires me to use clipboard cut to get rid of the resultant compound 'word'.

If I disable 'Word Suggestion' this very nearly fixes everything, but it does create a new (small but irritating) problem: Auto-spacing and auto-capitalisation no longer work after full stops (periods). Auto-spacing still works after commas, but not after full stops, and auto-capitalisation only works if I manually insert a space after a full stop.

Has anyone come across these problems before and found a solution?

Do the swype tutorial built into the phone.

Quick tips: put the cursor over the word you want to correct and tap the swype button. This brings up the word suggestion box and you can select three correct option.

If you swype from the swype key to the SIM key an editing keyboard with arrows and delete word options will come.

But seriously check out the tutorial. That should answer all your questions.

What version of swype are you using? Usually I will have a row of options at the top of the keyboard to choose some words from. And if you long press on the back, it will delete word by word instead of character by character.

Also, you can click on any word along the message and options for word replacement also appears. At least that are the options I am getting.

Cheers

I have the same issues as the TS, but not only when deleting the word.

When I type a word swype comes with several suggestions. When tapping halfway the word swype automaticly puts that word in between. Example:
I swype control. I tap between the nt. The result I'm getting is: concontroltrol. The suggested word is typed between the word already swyped.

Also when tapping elswhere the word appears. Example:

"I have concontroltrol." When tapping in the word have i get:
"I hacontrolve concontroltrol."

It's really very annoying and only appears in the email program from Android. It started when updating to Android 2.3.4 and after updating to 2.3.5 the issues still is here.

Anyone has an solution? It's getting on my nerves.

I noticed precicely the problem your experiencing after I installed DlevROM 3.0. Extremely irritating, almost rendering email composition impossible.

However, this is not present in DlevROM 3.1 or CheckROM Rev 2.0
I am not sure what version of swype that came with 3.0, but on DlevROM3.1, and CheckROM Rev 2.0, these are both bundled with Swype v3.8.86.28077.28088.2162.GTI9100

At least it can be said that it is definitely a Swype problem, so if you get your hands on this version (or perhaps later), it should cure your problem.

Yeah I get this too.

To give a better example of the delete problem, let's say I've typed:

Hey man let's meet up by the station

I decide instead to meet at the cinema, so I start deleting the last word I typed. As soon as I delete the first character, Swype inserts the word as a suggestion, so I end up with:

Hey man let's meet up by the statiostation
Hey man let's meet up by the statistation
Hey man let's meet up by the statstation

And so on.

Holding delete to delete the entire word doesn't work in this scenario for some reason.

Very irritating. :/

Like most others on this thread, also experiencing issues with Swype 'word suggestion'. Annoyingly its a new phone and didnt do it for the first 5 days, but 6 days onwards and I get the most annoying issue.

Im on version 3.25.91.33835.33848.4148.0XX - do they want to make the versioning any longer. NASA software probably has fewer characters in their config library. I'm on GingerBread 2.3.5 if thats applicable, Samsung Galaxy SII

Anyhow, try and delete a word and the word your deleting gets exponentially bigger. If I try and delete 'and' it becomes 'anand'. Try and delete that and it becomes 'anananand'. Once more and it becomes 'anananananananand'.

This thread is from mid 2011 and still a problem on current version. Swype people sort it out! I'd expect an OOB app to have been through sufficient unit/integration and user testing.

Look forward to a fix....if they ever fathom it out.
