So the wife has an Eris that is crapping out on her. She is not a "must ...have... newest...greatest" type of gal; just wants functional and reliable. I got an Inc on launch day and it has served me well, but about to upgrade to Rezound(probably).

Anyway, I don't want to give her a hand-me-down, and since the Inc 2 is basically free now, has it been a decent and reliable, unrooted phone for most users on here and would you recommend it for her? Or is there another in this category of upgrades that someone can recommend?

Thanks!

Aside from the alarm clock app and a few people needing to do a factory reset our two to work out a bug, this phone is the shizzle. I came from an Eris, and think this is like the perfected version of that phone. Though I have to mention I root all devices I own.
Or you could always get her that purple version of the Eris that is out now. I forget the name.

I've had the Inc2 since it was released in April and I've been very happy with it - not rooted and no problems to speak of. The stock apps have worked well enough, but there are many free (or nearly so) third party apps that offer more functionality, such as the "GO" suite (Launcher, SMS, Contacts, Dialer), Handcent, Juice Defender, Widget Locker, etc. Highly recommended.

Awesome phone, I had 4 Droid x's and this phone blows it out of the water.

The single issue I have is that fine dust crawls inside the phone, I already sent one back for that reason and they sent me another and its doing the same thing. It might be cause I don't have it in a case and its in my jean pocket all the time so the fine dust gets in, other than that. Not a single software issue. The phone is super solid and fast with no hicks ups!

I went from the Eris to the Inc2 in early June and have never looked back. My Eris had become more slow to react and screen not sensitive enough...probably from the slower processor. The Inc2 has none of these problems. The one OCD issue that I have is the bars display...mostly shows none to 1 or 2 bars unless pretty much on top of a Verizon tower. This seems to be a display issue, however, since I very seldom have a dropped call. Also, the 4-display is not too bulky. It's somewhat bigger than the Inc, but not bulky. I think she would like it a lot.

I second this. I will suggest taking a look at the HTC Rhyme. the only downfall to the INC2 is the speaker, which is very mediocre. Test out the Rhyme to see how the speaker is if that is an important feature for her.
