Hi all,

Got a problem with an original HTC Desire I'm trying to flash with a custom ROM and I don't know where I am going wrong, or what to do next!

How do I fix this? I've read, re-read and re-read again SUroots rooting and flashing guides and I can't figure out what I am not doing correctly.

Please help!!

Thanks

Hi,
Are you on stock hboot... if so did you install the stock hboot zip in the cool3d thread? also have you partitioned your sd card to ext4 for A2SD?

Think I'm on stock hboot. Did install the hboot zip file from the thread.

Thought I could partion the SD card after the install. If not, how do I do it now? Tried following the guide for using GParted for Windows but nothing happened.

@kingdave: an ruu would take you back to stock but you have root so you just need to sort your SD card and you can flash the rom of choice.

I found the best way to use gparted was with the bootable pen drive. Once your pen drive is bootable (would recommend using unbutu (check the spelling)) you install gparted on to the drive then boot you're PC from the pen drive and this will then enable you to create an ext4 on the SD card. Su has a good guide on this and the relevant downloads required aswell.

Just keep going and you will get there. And ask if you don't understand

Was finding it difficult to follow SURoot's guide since I find it easier to follow visual guides rather than text guides.

I have now partioned my SD card by following this YouTube guide:
Roms-Au - Partition SD Card using GParted.mp4 - YouTube

However, when I mount my SD card in Recovery mode, my Windows 7 machine says that it needs to format the 32mb swap partition and doesn't recognise the FAT32 partition.

Don't understand what I've done wrong there! Created a 32mb Linux swap partition, a 512mb EXT2 partition and left the rest as a FAT32 partition.

Ideas?!?!?

ok a few things
you do not need a swap partition
you must also have the partitions in a certain order. the fat32 partition must be 1st.

kill all partitions
create the fat32 primary partition to what size you want
then create a 1024/512 mb ext3 partition afterwards (still a primary partition)
so it should look like |fat32-----------------|ext3---|

swap partitions are rarely used on desire roms

So the above video did it in the wrong order?

OK. Now reformatted the SD, using GParted I've created:
<6GB FAT32----------------------------|1GB EXT4-->

No swap partition as the description on the XDA thread linked to above doesn't seem to suggest that is needed.

Now, in theory, if I copy the ROM zip across to the SD card, reboot in Recovery, install from SD, all should be working. Could I get a collective fingers crossed?!

Well, situation seems to have gone from bad to worse.

Did as above, copied the ROM across and installed it, rebooted phone, white HTC screen came up, screen went off and now nothing is happening + phone is unresponsive.

Now I'm even more lost!

EDIT: Phone isn't bricked, if I take the battery out and start again I can boot into recovery. Possible just need to install those HBOOT files again?

But it's going the right direction, every time will get easier and soon you will have it of pat.

Well, all seems to be working OK, with the exception of the SD card partition.

I've created a 1GB EXT4 partition, but the phone still says it only has 147MB or space left even though I've not yet downloaded any apps.

How do I make use of the partition I've created??

Also, the weather app has no animations. How do I get them?

Your phone should automatically use the ext partition, but you will still use up your internal memory, just much slower.

Download quick system info from market to check.

Just reread SUroots A2SD guide and saw that. Quick System Info confirms I have a 0.98GB partition.

Dont know what app youre using for weather but its probably a settings thing.

Just using the standard HTC Sense weather app/widget/clock. I get text info (temp, wind etc) but no animation. I've downloaded a load of weather files (they're basically just HTC mp4 files) but I have no idea where to put them. The thread on XDA just tells you were to download from, not how to use.

EDIT: Tried asking what to do in the Cool3D XDA thread, but as I have less than 10 posts on there it won't let me post in a development thread. Searching the rest of XDA throws up a few others having the same problem, but actual solution to fix it other than "install the ROMs weather pack" - thats the bit I don't know how to do!

Could anyone post for me or give me a hand? Thanks
