battery draining after 5 hours - nothing running

Hello,

Have a HTC Desire which is just over 12 months old.

It has suddenly started running out of battery after 5-6 hours.

It happened yesterday when just operating as a phone (no 3G or wifi) so today I put it into airplane mode as advised by HTC and again, drained after 5-6 hours.

Once the battery is flat, it won't charge from empty - I have to swap with my boyfriend and charge his partially charged battery.

My battery lasts ok in his phone but his battery runs out in my phone.

I'd be very grateful for any ideas - it is driving me mad.

Thanks in advance.

Try the apps option first as it is most likely to be a rogue one that is draining battery by doing something all the time.

To help investigate this go to the phone dialler (what you use to manually call a phone)and enter the following
*#*#4636#*#*
And check out battery history, change the display to partial wake usage and note the apps that appear in the highest items. Remove those

If that doesn't work (i can't view the battery history on my rooted phone, maybe due to gingerbread or the ROM) then you can view in the app "battery left". Place a widget then press on it and then go to battery history.

To backup sms and call logs to SD card get the following apps:
SMS Backup & Restore
Call Logs Backup & Restore

To factory reset go to Settings->Privacy->Factory data Reset

Hope this helps.
