Any other Desire owners due an upgrade?

I've been due an upgrade since the end of last month but I'm not sure what to go for.

The S2 is the best spec phone available at the moment, followed by the Sensation and the likes of the XE and XL.

The Google Nexus is due to be unveiled in the UK soon and that's another option. Then there is the S3 which is due out early next year, which I am finding myself tempted to hang on for and find out more details about.

We all know that technology goes out of date quickly, hence why it's a good idea to get the best and newest technology available to future proof yourself for as long as possible.

Just thought I'd make this thread for myself and anybody else in this predicament.

Decisions, decisions.....

I'll be due an upgrade in a few months. I still love my Desire, and I think I'll just switch to a cheaper SIM-only deal and keep the phone.

Exactly what I'm thinking, the giffgaff route seems like the way to go. The money I'll save each month could go towards a tablet, if i fancy getting one. For me the Desire is just about the right size, I put my mate's S2 in my pocket and it just feels uncomfortable so if I want something with a larger screen I'd rather get a tablet.

Got a Sensation XE for a friend the other week. Had a play. Nice big screen, but nothing really new to the game. I've got my Desire until March next year. The S2 and XE don't push the buttons, the Nexus was a little let down. There's still nothing my Desire cannot do that i really want.

What's the spec of the S3? Surely HTC has a monster phone out in the next 6m planned?!?

I'm due to upgrade the 4th December. I set my heart on the Galaxy Nexus, till I found it doesnt have an SD card, and a phone that speced with only 16gig is a joke.

Therefore I'm hanging on till the S3 comes out. The rumoured specs are phenomenal.

Andy.

I was genuinely put out by this. Its a big plus to have expandable memory and I look down on Apple for doing this as its not too far off of extortion. Want more ROM? Shell out £80+ for the same device with double the (already limited) memory. Even though you can pick up an 8gb card for roughly £5.

Nope. I refuse.

im due one and have been for a little while but i was waiting for the samsun nexus. Now its out there as such im alittle disapointed. my desire does everything i need and its still being developed with custom roms so even that side of things is still moving. i read about a htc edge, i might wait longer, get a sim only and wait till a phone that grabs my eyes

I was due an upgrade 2 months back, but nothing really stood out head and shoulders above the desire,

Sure they've got bigger screens, dual cores and the other bells and whistles, but they all seem a bit meh to me at present so I've kept my Desire, and will probably not look at owt else for a couple or 6 months (although the Razr did catch my eye today  )

If anyone does decide to go down the GG route, you could always click through my affiliate scheme, I get a fivers worth of credit and you get a fivers worth of credit once you've activated the sim with a tenner ;)

Thanks for all the feedback everybody. This is exactly the type of reaction I wanted this thread to get - a good variety of opinions which can help and advise people who are currently using the HTC Desire and are nearing the end of their contract/due an upgrade.

A large gripe of mine with Android handsets is the limited internal memory - ie. even the Galaxy S2 only allows you to use 2GB of the internal storage for apps. Whilst this is plenty, and a great deal more than the Desire, it would be nice for the user to use the internal storage of their phone how they wish. I'm hoping whatever my next phone is, it will allow 2GB+ for internal storage. I'll probably end up rooting and flashing a custom ROM eventually, but it would be nice to have more space from the beginning.

was due an upgrade 8 weeks back and was happy to try save some money for a bit on my rooted desire so went to Giff Gaff for a month or so but service on there at my work was ropey to say the least so plans had to change and thats when I started looking for something new back on tmobile again.

So as you can see from my sig, I went for the Motorola Razr on an 18month contract from mobile phones direct and Im loving the phone, price I am used to paying and its so much better than a 24month deal. I have nothing but good things to say about the hardware, speed, feel, weight, battery life etc of this phone to date.

Like any android phone just now, it doesnt have that WOW factor in terms of, now we have all seen android, worked with it, manipulated it etc etc, I didnt get the buzz I got when I had my first android device, but looking forward to seeing if ICS changes that.

I will probably still root, I miss not being able to take a back up just in case, but need more UK interest in it, as the Razr forum on here is mostly americans taking about verizon which means not a lot to me in the UK.

While here, I just want to thank all the folks on here that helped me out with my desire & its rooting etc, the help this forum gave me was truly exceptional.

I've fallen under the spell of a SXE, did my research, wrangled a good upgrade deal on Orange and going for it..... not getting as excited as I did when I went for the Desire but am still very happy with the desire except for the memory space, might now be brave enough top have a go at rooting the Desire now :)

I always thought the internel memory was a joke on the Desire, also the A2sd.
On my old Nokia I could install anything on the SD card from the beginning.
Maybe that's just because Symbian and Android run completely different.
As for the upgrade, i ain't due till mid next year.
I don't mind as like others have said, nothing really jumps out and offers more then what we currently have.
Faster? Sure.
More internal memory? Probably, well, not now I'm rooted.
Better battery? I doubt it just for the fact a cpu running at full speed all the time is a battery killer, i don't need to worry about this since once again, I'm rooted.

What I want more then anything else in my new phone would be better battery, i mean I lot better. Maybe a set cpu on demand governor as standard.
I miss being able to charge my phone every 3days with general use.
Saying that, I wasn't on the net all the time with it.
