Help is there a way to get the new (now old KE7) firmware via a Mac?

Ive got a mac myself mate,

bit long winded but two days ago i downloaded a (*cough*) wallet-happy version of windows, burnt the iso file to a dvd. Then I used bootcamp to put windows on a partition on my macbook pro.

Then just booted windows, downloaded the windows-version of kies and it prompted me for the firmware upgrade as soon as i connected my phone.

Let me know if you need any help with this, there's a perfect youtube video somewhere in my bookmarks that details the whole process from downloading windows all the way to getting it up and running on mac.

Let me know if you have any problems/questions as I've done this a couple of times now.

I have a Macbook Air and am running into multiple issues with Bootcamp (i.e., updates aren't available, then the hard drive won't partition due to "an inability to move items"). I do have an external superdrive but I haven't even made it to that point.

I'm wondering if there is an easier way to do this with either Parallels or VMWare? Also not thrilled about the idea of partitioning my precious hard drive space with Boot Camp.

Hey Smileman, what os are you running? Also what updates do you mean?

Theoretically parallels and/or vmware should work just fine, although ive never used those emulator programs before so dont quote me on that! :)

In terms of your concerns about partitioning, I know what you mean as I thought the same - I especially didnt want to infect (and i see it as an infection ;)) my shiny mac with windows. But once you get what you want from kies you can do what i do and remove ththat crap right off your system again. You just go into bootcamp again while running Mac OS and it will prompt you to remove windows and the partition completely. Takes two seconds and your system has been....'cured.' :)

Snow Leopard. When I start Boot Camp I am prompted to install updates, which my computer is unable to do for some reason. The other options is to use the disks which came with my Air. When I select that option partitioning fails due to the inability to move files. I then get a message advising to backup my hard drive, reformat it to Journal using Disk Utility, and then add back all my stuff. That all sounded like a bit too much for KE7 ;)

Sounds good.

You've got me a bit stumped mate, the only thing I can think of is suggesting you upgrade to Lion - but as you've just said yourself, all this is a bit of a palava just to get a new firmware for the GS2......it would be a bit anti-climatic to say the least.

The only other thing I can suggest is being a bit cheeky and going into an internet cafe somewhere where their computers are decent and not 'controlled/censored' too much (you're in london right? Good ones round victoria & south ken et) and quickly installing kies and doing the upgrade then and there.

Should probably add as well in case you're worried, once you actually GOT the firmware on your phone, you can go ahead and download the mac version of kies and still be able to use that (for all your transferring needs etc).

Sorry can't be more help dude :(
