Help SD Card stopped reading

Not a noob error. SD card was working fine (on .602), then during music playback a couple days ago it started hanging up, then just stopped. DX says the card is unmounted, has errors, etc. If I try to format the card in the DX when I get an error message, it fails to do anything. When the DX is plugged into my PC via USB cable, the card shows up as a drive in Windows explorer, but is not readable (get "insert disk" error in Win Explorer).

SOOOOO, I swapped out the card, got the exact same error. Both card read just fine in PC. The SD cards are good. The DX was reading them just fine for over a year. Now it can't see them. Any ideas?

Just to clarify, I've also done the variations on plugging the phone into a PC and trying to use that method to force the system to recognize the phone, no dice. Still get unmounted, unformatted, card error, etc warnings and the phone doesn't seem able to format the card itself.

Backup your stuff if rooted and do a factory reset. If that doesn't work and you are rooted, try flashing the ROM.

You can also take a flashlight and peek into the SD card slot to make sure none of the pins are bent or broken, but if it was working and just died without you touching the card, then I doubt this is the case.

This is assuming you are sure the SD cards are good, the Moto SD cards are known to go bad at a pretty high rate.

I'm struggling with how to back things up, or do a restore if the sd card slot is shot. TB isn't working because it doesn't see a card. Is there a way to back up to a pc?

Under more bad news, even clockwork isn't seeing the card or allowing mount/formats. So, what's a good 4g replacement? :(

The latest version of TB allows you to change backup directories. Try doing the backups to the phone memory and copying the directory out to PC.

How important is your setup/data?

If it is just some data files, you can use adb to copy the files to your PC.

If it is your setup (and I've never tried it, but in theory...), you can use the push/pull commands to duplicate the phone on your PC and then the opposite once you have a working X. Might be a lot of work though.

Unfortunately, that option isn't available in TB if it can't read the SD card. I'm about ready to do a wipe and see if that does squat. If not, then I'll have to accept it is a hardware issue.

Wow, you are correct. I just tried changing TB backup directory after removing my SD card (before starting TB) and TB force closed! MAJOR oversight on the developers!!!!

Now I gotta think maybe I should change the default backup to internal and then have ROM Manager back up everything on the SD (sucks up space - but I've got a 32GB SD LOL). Unlikely, but I don't want to be in your situation. :(

No assistance from me, just similar experience. I just installed Suji ROM, was well into my first full day and loving it. I was running down the battery after doing a bat cal when suddenly my SD card went "blank" and I got a "do you want to reformat" message. I was in the process of downloading a file and my battery was low but it didn't shut down during the DL. So I let the battery continue to run down and suddenly my phone went into airplane mode... now I have wifi but no cell radio. If I go into settings to hit the airplane mode button I see it turning on and off once a second on its own. Hitting the button does not stop it. I'm playing with it right now (deleting the aps I installed yesterday), but if you have any guidance it would be appreciated.

You should start your own thread on this, have you tried SBF back to factory ROM or just plain flash another? Sounds like a ROM issue.

Ok, maybe some good news. It should have occured to me that the problem started while listening to music and working outside on a retaining wall in the rain...

There was a period where it was appearing to see something, but would get stuck in the whole checking card for errors loop, which burnt the battery down to nothing real fast. So, I pulled the card completely. After leaving the SD card out the last two weeks, it was able to read a 1 GB card. I'm currently reloading my big card, hopefully that will work too. Might have just been some wetness or corrosion gumming things up. At least I can read a small card.

So I've had some issues with this phone since it was new... glitches in the gallery where photos are lost (show as empty files), some times the gallery "camera roll" would show up blank and be un-clickable. Eventually I lost my SD card completely, even recovery programs on my PC are unable to access it, has to buy new...

I put a new SD card in it and SBF'd the phone (was rooted) and it was like a new phone. I went from 9 hours to 26+ hours w/o a charge, everything was working great, then one day (literally over night) I went back to the way it was... 8 hours and battery was warning me, I'd take one photo and all subsequent photos would not save to the card, gallery issues... reformat the SD and problems are gone again WTF

So question for the guru's: What is going on? What is screwing up my SD card? I am stock .605, but this issue goes back like 14 months now. The day things changed, the one think I can say for certain I used for Google Maps, which also killed my battery that day. I'm going to experiment with it to see if I can duplicate, but is it possible that Google Maps is screwing up my SD card? Any other apps which I should be aware of?

Do I have a bad phone?
