Noise in headphones (not included ibeats).

Question: Does anyone else (besides me) hear noise in the headphones (not the Included ibeats) when streaming over 4G? I usually can hear it through the speakers in my office desk phone never through the headphones.

Sometimes you will hear noise if the 3.5mm jack isn't pushed in all the way. Some 3.5mm jacks you have to really push in to get it seated, especially the first time. Maybe try that?

Thanks for the advice but I have already tried that. Here is a reply to a message I responded to if you would like more info on this problem.

Yes, using normal headphones and it has to be at a quiet part or you could just turn the volume all the way down. The noise it makes is a 4G signal noise (should not be doing this). To recreate the noise simply stream using 4G and place the phone close to the receiver on your cordless house phone or speaker system. It just might be these cheap headphones...they came with a zune I use to have.

Correction: I notice the noise on the ibeats too...it's just very low, well insulated I guess.

Careful doing that though, the Thunderbolt had issues with people being too rough with the earphone hole and breaking it....now where have I heard that before....?!?!

So you only hear the noise when you're streaming via 4G? No feedback when playing MP3s or the FM radio? Might be the 4G radio giving some interference. Good way to test it, connect your headphones to your computer and stream the same source if possible. If you hear the noise then it's the source and not the device. I know some of those streaming sites throw out very small noise to keep people from ripping from their stream.

I read on XDA that there might be noise issues while using bluetooth headphones too. For me that would be a deal killer as I only use BT headphones. Hopefully that isn't the case, or if it is it is something a software update easily fixes. It would be pretty crappy that a phone touted for its audio might have crappy audio issues.

It would be pretty crappy, but for some reason it seems that manufacturers are getting more bold with letting their quality slide.

So I just came back from Verizon and I had a chance to try out the headphone jack. I found there to be a louder than normal, static interference when playing any media, both from the internal memory and from streaming.

I'd advise anyone picky about audio quality to go to a Verizon store with some good headphones and see if it's bothersome to them. For me it was quite annoying. Not as bad as on the Bionic but still a nuisance in my opinion.

Gonna try and go to a different store, hopefully it was an issue on that particular device. I doubt it as apparently there are multiple reports of such an issue. Seriously disappointed...

i don't have 4g down here, but i hear the noise you're tlaking about..it's very faint, and it goes away after 2 seconds. it's just like on my incredible..it would make a smlal staticy noise for like 2 sec and then stop..as if it were cutting off audio from the headjack.

Yes, it should kick in right when you hit play. Once you hit pause it should continue for 2-3 seconds and then you'll hear it click off. The clicks are normal though. It should also be noticeable when changing the ringer volume.

Hmm most interesting, mine have 0 sound when paused/muted for music both streaming WiFi/3G and 4G and for use with mp3s onboard.
Tested headphones were the icraps, some Klipsch s4s and my beloved Audio-Technica M50s.
So I just did more extensive testing and found some odd results.
Youtube, on 4g, DOES buzz intermittently. 3G and Wifi nothing. Listening to a MP3 while using 4G to download something, no popping. I do not know why this would be, but it is at least on my unit.
4G idle does not buzz either, only seems to happen with streaming the media, at least with youtube. I did test both the app and in Dolphin HD, same results besides that Dolphin sounded better haha.

Now try the same source from a computer with headphones plugged in. I think it's probably either copyright embedding or some other noise from the source.

Youtube on my PC doesn't have the popping/hissing, well no more than usual. My PCs soundcard has EMI interference up the wazoo, so the phone doesn't hold a candle to what I am used to which is probably why I never noticed it before. I just tried the same video (Like Toy Soldiers, Eminem) just now on the phone on 4G, and it only did it at the start. Seems to be an intermitent issue, or maybe when the 4G radio is trying harder for a signal, which might make sense as my house has horrid cell reception.

RF issue? The 4G radio will generate more "signal pollution" to adjacent lines and chips than 3G & wifi when active with signal. Perhaps a shielding issue......

that's what you're talking about? my incredible had the same exact thing lol this doesn't seem like a problem to me, AND i'm an audiophile. i just chalk it up to the fact that it's a phone lol

Sorry, what? The clicks are not what I'm talking about if that's what you mean. I'm talking about a noise similar to static interference.

In any case I went to another Verizon store today to try out another Rezound. Same results. However, this time I brought along some non-in-ear headphones and the noise was much harder to hear. In fact, if I hadn't tried the Rezound with IEMs the first time I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all.

This is similar to what I found, the ibeats seem to display it the worst, my over-the-ears I have to max the volume while something is playing, muted, to even come close to hearing it. It never intrudes on the music/movie itself though, only there if I actually go out of my way to look for it.

True that, no sense in going out of your way to try and hear it.

I wish I hadn't noticed it.

I suppose in this case, ignorance is bliss...

It sounds like the equalizer settings for the Beats might be dialing in too much of the highs and bringing in extra distortion if you hear it worse with the beats headphones.

I hear the static, too. It's not the Beats software as that only functions in the built-in players. No Beats in youtube, Rhapsody, Pandora, etc.

I don't notice a difference in the amount of interference if using iBeats buds or any others, and also hear it if on Wifi, 4G, or downloaded files. It's intermittent, mostly between songs, and it's not too bad most of the time, though occasionally can be heard over quieter parts of a song.

I also find that the interference volume does not change when adjusting music volume.

That must mean that it's some physical interference inside the phone and not some other interference. As soon as I get my phone I'll pair it to my bluetooth headphones to see if I hear the static.

Here is some test result. I used the built-in Music app for playback, heard the static noise when
1) Beat enabled + Beat earphone
2) Beat disabled + Beat earphone
3) Beat enabled + my other earphone
4) Beat disabled + my other earphone

I did NOT hear the static noise when I use my bluetooth earphone.
