HUGE design flaw...

I honestly think not putting a LED notification light is DUMB. Who was drunk on this one? I miss the flashing light on my Xperia X10 when I had a text or email waiting. Blue for text, green for email, red for low battery and orange for charging.

I also heard all iphones dont have this feature also. WTF?

This would not detur me from getting the GS2 again if I had a choice because its simply and unbelievable phone but this is quite an annoyance.

get an blackberry then. you can even customize the led light with certain apps.
i came from a blackberry, sure its hard to get used to. but you'll adapt with some android devices that doesnt. just check the phone more often.

but i do wish they had it for the galaxy s2, it sure would increase their market strategy over the iphone. perhaps iphone would follow as well if that happens.

NoLED is all you need!

I started smartphoning with a 3GS and went to SGS2, so I've never known the LED notification light. Therefore I never need it!

does the NoLED drain batteries? i tried it myself but not for a long duration so i haven't notice. what are some good settings for it for battery saving.

i just got used to it while using the Xperia X10 for a while. I liked the different colored lights for different notifications.

I love the BLN option but I will not root my phone and talk about kernels and roms scare the crap out of me lol.. I rooted my X10 but I care enough about my nice new G2 that I dont want to BLEEP it up haha

Noled has a lot of battery drain. Bln much less so.
But Bln requires root, so if you don't want to root then you have to use noled

i'm also a previous X10 user who was quite into changing roms for fun.
the S2 is far, far easier to root, you just flash the required package in odins, and unlike the X10, you can flash roms without wiping the phone. i couldnt believe how much easier it is to do compared with the X10 which wasnt exactly a challenge to do.

I use NOLED. Can colour code the notification lights so different lights mean different stuff. Quite useful if you want to differentiate between email, calls appointments, battery level etc

What is the point dude? All you need is a way to tell you that you missed something, no matter what it is, so you wont unlock(wake up) the phone all the time.
Your point is: you will only look at your phone if you have a missed call? If you have an sms or email you`ll just let it stay there unread? Or the colour coding helps you not be surprised for the 2 seconds that takes you to unlock the phone?
As i said, colour coding is pointless, no matter what colour it is you`ll still look at the phone, thus BLN is all you need.

one thing i don't get, is why can't the notification be done with the Flash LED? you wouldn't need root to turn it on (torch apps don't need root), and also you'd actually see the notification through most cases/protectors.

NoLED is useless if you have a flip case.

I came from a blackberry and i did miss the LED at first, but you get used to it.

NoLed does drain but you can change the settings....

personally... yeah it could have put an LED on there, but i love the phone more than a little blinking little to tell me to look at it. not a deal breaker.

Mmmmm... my previous phone would audibly remind me every 5 minutes until I read the message.

I don't miss the feature at all and don't consider it a 'HUGE design flaw'. Slightly overlooked, maybe, but definitely not essential.

Having said that, the best implementation I've seen is using the Menu/Back LED's as a visual notification.
