The timeout seems kind of redundant but the overnight switch-off is a good idea. The only reason I'd see the reason for a BLN app is if you want to know you have a message one second before normal, since you only have to press the home key to see the message pop-up, or to see the notification in the notifications bar :p But that's some people's cup of tea I suppose!

Sometimes you are not always near your phone, you take a shower, or you leave it home when u go playing basketaball, when u come back u just look at the phone on your desk and if there's no BLN blinking, then there's no need to touch yout phone or wake it up. I find it usefull, battery drain is insignifiant since its a little LED. If you leave the BLN on for days the battery will remain almost unchanged.

if those leds are on you will get a very big battery drain compared to when they are off.
usually I lose between 3 and 5% overnight, but I had an sms overnight once, and it lost 17%

Actually the LED does not drain the battery significantly, what does drain the battery is turning the LED on and off.. I don't know why. So if you set the BLN to only turn on the LED and not blink then battery is not an issue. In fact you will save your battery using this tool because you do not have to wake the phone to see that you have NO messages waiting.

To use BLN you need three things:
1. BLN application from market.
2. ROM that supports BLN.
3. Kernel that supports BLN.

Ah I see. Situation specific reasons I guess. See I keep mine in a leather 'wallet' case, so to even see the LED I'd have to flip the cover. Since I'm already committed to checking, it's not much more effort to press a button. I'd like to see a comparison of the battery effects of LED vs pressing the home button to check for messages. I doubt the results will blow me away enough to change, but you never know!

I have the free version, so I dont have the option to blink the led's
so the leds on constantly DOES drain the battery, but agreed, blinking will drain it even more.
