I was pretty much in same boat as you,
I went thru and deleted until I was over 500MB free, cleared cache using the hboot method, 'set date forward one month' route after wiping cache, then did the check for update took a few tries but it finally worked.
Massive power drain after it was complete, though that seemed to be due to all the auto updates and sync the phone was completing.
AT the very least I figure several apps will need re-tweaking in the power management and location aware area
PS, I have at least 525MB free on internal storage, is that enough? Thanks!
No one seems to know the answer to that question. It appears that no one knows definitively if it is the 640mb of phone memory, the cache memory, or the \data\ area that needs to be freed up or how much needs to be free. All we know so far is that if you follow the directions in:
Second GB Update/Patch Won't Reboot Issue - SOLVED! - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com
to clear internal cache, set your time ahead by one month, and have enough room on your phone (there again is that uncertainity!), the update will install.
More likely the update wiped the battery statistics. Give it a couple charge/drastic cycles to catch up, or you can recalibrate the power meter (drain the battery fully, then charge it completely).
link?
nevermind ... set date, repoot, now downloading 4.08.605.2
Isn't that new? alot of graphics here.
Already tried this, no luck.
I feel like a maroon, where does it show the percentage of battery life left? I see the graph but I thought it used to tell me the percentage of battery life left.Did anyone else see this on gingerbread?
Go to Menu>settings>about phone>battery>battery use>then click on the new banner at the top (gray banner) when you click it, it will bring up a new screen showing phone signal, awake, screen on, charging and yellow and blue graph.

For several reasons, I am considering a factory reset to get all of the recent patches to install on my phone. Can anyone who has successfully done this provide step-by-step instructions on how to do this? In particular, I'm wondering whether the updates automatically pop up after the reset completes or whether I still have to go fiddling with the phone's date/time. Also, do I need to activate it before the updates pop up?
Many thanks for the help.
Since I cannot seem to get the notification for the first OTA (unrooted phone), can I download this http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=1153&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fandroidforums.com%2Fincredible-all-things-root%2F446690-manual-application-ota-help-problem.html&v=1&libid=1321564398323&out=http%3A%2F%2Fandroid.clients.google.com%2Fpackages%2Fota%2Fverizon_incredible%2F6f37e6f6b9ab.OTA_Incredible_C_Gingerbread_S_VERIZON_WWE_4.06.605.3-3.26.605.1_release_210690.zip&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fandroidforums.com%2Fhtc-droid-incredible%2F&title=Manual%20application%20of%20OTA%20-%20Help%20with%20Problem%20-%20Android%20Forums&txt=directly%20from%20the%20Google%20server&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13215644007961 and apply it manually? If so, how? Hopefully the second OTA will then come through. Any words of wisdom? Instructions somewhere? Thanks.
I had gotten the notification of the 1st update (4.06), but it hung up after the "rebooting now". I rebooted manually and the update was no longer available. I tried every trick I could find to get the update to redownload, including a factory reset, the date trick, *#*#checkin#*#*, but nothing was working. Note that before I did the factory reset, I did inventory my apps and backup my data.
My phone is NOT rooted, but I followed steps 4-5 from this link http://androidforums.com/incredible...ally-install-gingerbread-ota-s-if-rooted.html to manually install the 4.06 update. The link to the download in that post is the actual Verizon/Google/HTC update as far as I can tell. On reboot (after a few minutes), the 2nd update (4.08) notification automatically showed up, so I did not continue with the manual install steps for 4.08. Note that my factory reset had killed all my apps/data, so losing them was not a concern. Due to an app that I use for work, my phone can't be rooted, so I did not do any of the other steps either to gain root/superuser.
As far as I can tell, this worked for me...now time to restore all my apps and redownload my data. YMMV. Good luck.
Am I understanding you, that you couldn't get the OTA to push to your phone again (like myself) for the 1st download...you then installed it/this manually....then the 2nd update downloaded automatically OTA? If so, I'll give that sucker a try too.
EDIT: How the hell did you get the install to start? I've got the zip on the phone, but there are a lot of files, folders, many .apk files, etc.
That's right. I downloaded the 4.06 file, then renamed it to update.zip, and copied it to the root directory of the SD card. I turned off the phone, then powered up while holding down the volume down key. I don't remember if it kicked off then, or if I had to select Recovery, hit power/volume up when the red triangle screen showed up, then selected Apply sdcard:update.zip. (I think it was the former, but I've been thru it so many times, I was on autopilot.) The 2nd update showed up OTA a few minutes after the final reboot.
repoot???
So, for those who have successfully installed both updates, what software version do you now have? 4.08.605.2? Should it be 4.08.605.3?
