***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Not open for further replies.
I don't know if someone posted something like this or not. I did notice a few posts with a positive note in them during my skimming, but I skipped to the end when CK started complaining about people complaining.

ANYway...

I'm disgruntled with Verizon because I do really believe that any delays beyond Thanksgiving are their fault. We could bicker back and forth as to my reasons but we're not going to. All I'm going to say is that I don't think Google/Samsung intended there to be such a staggered release, especially as they continue to compete with Apple with their prized device. I also believe that it is reasonable to find Verizon at fault if they're pushing their iCloud crap on these phones because I'm sure that they haven't had TOO long to tinker with ICS and code up something decent on the fly. I think their "My Verizon" app is still terrible.

Aside from every sentiment that I hold against Verizon, I am SO very thankful for the person(s) within the corporate monster that are who caused the Nexus to be possible. I pray for them as they struggle against the stupid processes, stupid phone software and stupid people that make up the Verizon monster.

Ah, I see everyone's a bit more chill now. I guess I'll retake my seat

/takes seat

So the good news is that my dad used his upgrade, and he shipped me his old Touch Pro2, which is in excellent condition (unlike mine). The bad news is that he upgraded to an iPhone :(

I didn't have the heart to tell him to wait for the Nexus.

But yeah, this wait is going to be so much more bearable for me now that I have a functioning phone! Yay!

[/coolstorybro]

So I feel as if the Droid-Life Nexus roundup (at least the title) was more than a little unfair.
"Only 16GB Version in the US, No Flash Support, Vodafone Still Testing, and No USB Mass Storage"?

All of those are half-truths/straight-up-lies

Anyway, yeah, I'm back ;)

Sometimes DL is a little hasty to get the "scoop" and tends to post articles on stream-of-conciousness, rather than ones backed up with facts.

A lot of that information was knee-jerk reactions to bad info.

Back to the VZW extended return policy -

I just stopped by my local corporate store and picked up a Rezound to keep me occupied while we wait on the GN. I specifically asked if the extended return policy was for activated phones. The salesman said yes, his manager said yes.

It's not a problem.

Now, I have say the rezound has a really nice screen and is lighting fast. I'm not sure that the GN could really be much better in those departments - or, at least, if it would be noticeable. As for the "thickness".... ya... it's not really an issue.

If it wasn't for the NFC and ICS I would probably stick with this thing.

On return policy: is it rrestricted to corporate stores. Ill go gget a resound on Monday from my authorized retailer if I can be assured of the opportunity to return it for the nexus past 14 days, but "my guy" at my store of choice told me via text today that 14 days is all i get. Is misinformed or does this extended rreturn policy only good for phones bought at corporate stores...? Desperatley looking for positive confirmation

Ok folks, take this for what its worth but I just got back from running errands. Had to go to BB and was talking to the phone rep there about the GN. I asked him when its due out. He was told beginning of Dec. I also asked if they confirmed it only being 16GB and he said yes that was true.

I was so mad when he told me this and he agreed that its a huge bummer. He said the 16GB version was being "rushed" by VZW and that is the reason for no 32GB.

Again speculation but a big bummer as far as I'm concerned.

:(:(:(

I've been literally racking my brains for the last day trying to figure out the truth about this internal storage thing. I have no idea what to do. The Source already said the phones will be 32 gb.

Sigh. I'm on the verge of giving up on this.
Don't overreact. We'll all find out the truth shortly.

Wouldn't be the same without you.

I was thinking of the same thing, but I am scared to go near the edge anymore, because of OTD.

I'm confident the LTE phone is 32GB. The GSM version should have been the only one changes on the Samsung site to 16GB. That's what I'm going with until proven wrong. No need to worry about it yet.

Please don't give up. Unless you mean trying to find info - then maybe it's good for your sanity. But we would miss you too much - or at least I would.

Hah, no.. I'm not leaving, I'm just thinking of giving up trying to figure it out.

Eh, she's a sweetheart. Don't let the vampire act fool you. She's got a heart of gold. :)

I guess it just depends on who you get it from. We've been back and forth on this return window like the wind (sock). I'd just make sure you get it in writing, clarifying whether or not you have 14 days or until the January date (I forget the exact holiday return date) on an activated phone. I wish you luck in your endeavor

That is exactly what she hopes for. Not only do you stick around to play with us but if she gets hungry you are one more dinner that she doesn't have to play nice with first to get you away from the ledge.

I've been in this thread almost exclusively for all my news but just ventured out and saw that there is a rather nasty bug with the device being discussed here and on XDA

http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-nexus/448010-strange-volume-problem.html

hmpf

I know I am a minority on this but a volume bug would be the least of my problems. I use the phone rarely for calls or even music. It certainly sucks that there may be an issue but it's not one that I'm going to get twisted (in the not fun way) about.

Ha, I think many of us have given up trying to figure it out.

And OTD's heart of gold? That's only so no one can drive a stake through it. Tricky girl. :D

She's only ever been nice, but I won't let the act fool me.

It most certainly is for corporate stores. That doesn't mean that a non-corporate re-seller may not honor the return period, it just means you need to ask them to find out, and like someone already mentioned, get it in writing.

I've yet to meet a bb employee (or a Verizon one for that matter) that knew more than I did about upcoming releases.

No, but slow and unreliable could easily make something effectively unusable. If you're copying files around, you wouldn't want to have to guess whether they actually got transferred.

Also if the function is only provided by one library (perhaps supported by a single developer), you may be left high and dry if it breaks under some new Linux version. It's said that in open source anybody can pick up the pieces of abandonware, but in practice it often doesn't happen.

Forehead slap. I forgot about MTP, haven't talked about that since the summer. :(

Ok, I have to go back and review, but I hope this is of help to some moving forward.

Ummm... media transport protocol?

PIA, aka PITA - that one I got. ;)

How to connect as usb storage device a Honeycomb tablet to linux and Ubuntu News, - AndroidWorld International

Mac OS X requires a helper program to connect to Android 3.0 tablets

OIC - allows both phone and PC to access card at same time. Lovely. Another solution without a problem.

My opinion on it stands, tho.

I really can't see myself purchasing a phone with only 16 gb of on board storage-no sd card. I may have to pass on this baby and wait. My DX is in very good shape.

We know a 32 GB version exists, but according to http://www.google.com/nexus, it doesn't(LTE or GSM), so obviously the website is wrong. They'll get it fixed by the end of Monday, I'd be willing to bet a 32 GB SGN on it ;)

I'm in a very similar boat... my Droid X is only 8-9 months old and there's not a thing wrong with it... especially since I went with Go Launcher EX. If the Galaxy Nexus is only 16 GB and no SD card, it cannot serve as my go-to electronics device (was going to consolidate my phone and iPod Touch into one device with the Nexus), so I may have to pass. Not going to drop $300 on a phone with the same memory as my Droid X, just for the sake of having ICS.

I hope it's just a software thing (crossed fingers and a little prayer). A phone that mutes itself while you aren't looking would certainly be a problem for people that rely on it as a phone.
